description

The Ontario Mining Association, the Canadian Institute of Mining & Metallurgy, including the Gateway and Sudbury Chapters and the Mining & Metals Society, and EdGEO, a National organization that supports Earth Science workshops for teachers, sponsor an educator professional development program, the Teachers’ Mining Tour. The Tour is a five day program, hosted at the Canadian Ecology Centre (CEC) located near Mattawa Ontario, that provides teachers with exposure to all phases of the mineral resource development cycle, including site visits to mines and mine manufacturing facilities in Sudbury and North Bay, a reclamation tour, engagement with industry professionals and Mining Matters educational resource workshops. Since its inception in 2010, the program has provided professional development for more than 90 educators. In 2013 the program has expanded to include 2 tours. One tour, scheduled from Monday August 19 to Friday August 23rd , that will include site visits in Timmins, is open to educators from across Canada. The Tours are fully sponsored and are available to educators at no cost, apart from transportation to and from the CEC.
