Forfeits. If a wrestler forfeits a match, he cannot place in the championship, unless the forfeit was due to an injury which occurred in an earlier round of the state championship. Also, extenuating circumstances concerning forfeits will be considered by the championship directors, doctor, and coach. Any forfeit due to injury or extenuating circumstances must be approved in advance in order for the wrestler to place in the state championship. (NFHS Rules 10-2-2, 4, 5, 6, 7, and 8). All skin issues will be treated as a medical default for all matches that day. The wrestler will be allowed to weigh-in. Rule Reminder: (NFHS Rule 4-1-1, 4-1-3, 7-3-7, and 7-5-3) Please make sure your wrestlers are wearing a suitable undergarment for weigh-ins and competition. Also, a wrestler MUST have their shoelaces secured properly. It is the coach's responsibility to have his wrestlers in legal uniform. If a wrestler appears on the mat without the proper uniform, they will have to use injury time to correct the situation and the wrestler will be assessed a technical violation.

16. Wrestling Clocks: Ten Trackwrestling Score Clocks will be used. The blood time and injury time will be

shown on the Score Clock. The clock will count down and the competitor’s score will flash when blood time or injury time is being used. The exception to this is if two competitors are both bleeding or have an injury at the same time, then only one will be shown on the clock and the other one will be kept at the table on a stopwatch.

TO: Athletic Director’s and Head Wrestling Coaches FROM: Ron Higdon, State Championship Director DATE: January 25, 2013 SUBJECT: Wrestling Championship Finals on Saturday, February 16, 2013 There will be a change during the 2013 State Wrestling Tournament in the details of the championship final matches on Saturday, February 16. The layout is similar, but there will be some added effects that will take some adjustment by all participants. We want to continue to run this tournament at a championship-caliber level and are excited for the changes that are planned this year. In Figure 1, on the next page, there are four mats as well as entries labeled A, B, C and D. This is where the respective classes’ finalists will enter the floor. The Parade of Champions, starting at approximately 3:00 p.m., will be the same as last year, with classes A and D entering from the entry way labeled A and classes B and C entering from the entry way labeled B. The Parade of Champions will also have the same route for the finalists to follow (Figure 2 on last page). When all finalists have taken their places on the mats, facing their opponents, the National Anthem will be played. After the song has finished, the finalists will shake hands with their opponents, and everyone will clear the mats, INCLUDING the first weight class to compete. Each of the classes will exit to their respective “corners” or entry ways. The first weight class, 106, will return to the entry way IMMEDIATELY so that they can be announced for their match as they are heading right back out to the mats. They will also need to make sure they are ready to compete; this means having their warm-ups off and their colored leg bands on as well as their head gear. Each individual finalist starting with class A, followed by B, C and then D, will be announced and will walk out onto their respective mats. Finalists with green bands will be announced first, followed by the finalists with red bands for each class. Once the class D finalists are on their mats, each finals match of the 106 weight class will begin. This announcement routine will continue for each weight class. At the conclusion of each weight class, there will be a medal ceremony for the weight class that competed previously (there will not be a medal ceremony following the 106 weight class). During the 113 weight class finals, the first-sixth place finishers in the 106 weight class will prepare for their medal ceremony to take place at the conclusion of the 113 matches. There will be awards stands at each mat with ten chairs lined up next to it; six place-designated chairs will be marked for the competitors to sit at (refer to Figure 3). They don’t have to be seated right at the start of the 113 match, but they MUST be seated before all of the matches are done. The athletes MUST be in their school-issued uniforms and/or warm-ups. Absolutely NO jeans, caps, or other clothes that are not part of the team uniform

may be worn. This will be the protocol for each weight class awards ceremony; 113 will be medaled following the 120 weight class, 120 will be medaled following the 126 weight class, and continued in this way for each weight class. Following the 285 (final) weight class, the 220 weight class medals will be awarded; when class D is finished, the 285 weight class medals will be awarded starting with class A. Since the individual weight class medal ceremonies will be taking place in between matches, only media credentialed personnel will be allowed on the floor to take pictures. Family and friends will NOT be allowed on the floor at this time. Please let your wrestlers know this so they can notify their family members; there will also be reminders during the tournament. At the conclusion of the 285 weight class medal ceremony, the award stands will be moved to the center of each mat for the team trophy ceremonies. Once again, only media credentialed personnel will be allowed on the floor for pictures.
