Carl’s mother, Mary, always chatted with the guests to make them feel at home. Upon learning that this guest was a Real Estate Broker in Stroudsburg, Mary men- tioned that her son Carl was also a Real Estate Broker involved with an old high school chum, Logan Steele, and his father, Robert Steele, in two small vacation communities located in Sussex County in Northwestern, New Jersey. When Carl arrived in Florida he spoke with the Real Estate Broker from Stroudsburg who indicat- ed he knew of a property that would make a great vacation community in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. Carl arranged a meeting for the Spring when all returned from Florida. Interstate 80 wasn’t completed at the time, so they had to use Route 611 through Mount Pocono to get to Pocono Pines. Upon arrival at the intersection of Routes 940 and 423 the trio found an abandoned used car lot complete with several rusty cars and a string of clear electric light bulbs running along both highways for about 200 feet. After standing on the dam at the west end of the lake off Route 423 and absorbing the pristine loveliness of Lake Naomi, they concluded that all the negatives could be overcome and that they should attempt to acquire the property from Irene Gross and one hundred percent of the lake rights which were owned by the Gross, Miller and Waygood Families. It reportedly wasn’t an easy transaction to consummate as the Gross, Miller and Waygood Families had very deep roots in Lake Naomi and turning it over to this New Jersey Group required a great deal of soul searching. In the end the sale was completed and the development of the property began. Logan Steele incorporated the Lake Naomi Club on November 4, 1963 and the first property from the Lake Naomi Corporation was sold to Dr. and Mrs. Vincent Hohl on May 11, 1964. Since then Carl Fiers, his brother Tom and Lake Naomi Real Estate have been involved in the initial sale of every property in Lake Naomi and Timber Trails. Carl Fiers, age 84, continues to actively market and sell the Lake Naomi and Timber Trails Com- munity. Talking with him one can tell that his zeal for Lake Naomi - Timber Trails has not changed since that Spring day in 1962 when he stood on the dam with Logan and Robert Steele and looked at that priceless lake and they envisioned the generations of family memories that would be developed over the next 50 years. A Refl ection of Life in Lake Naomi & Timber Trailswww.LakeNaomiClub.com

Celebrating 50 Years, How it BeganAs the Club begins the celebration of its 50th year, we thought it might be interesting to

take a look back at how it all began.According to Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Real Estate Broker Carl Fiers, Jr. it all began during the

Winter of 1961-62 when a couple from Stroudsburg wintered on the west coast of Florida at a resort complex owned by Carl’s parents. Carl’s mother, Mary, always chatted with the guests to make them feel at home. Upon learning that this guest was a Real Estate Broker in Stroudsburg, Mary men-tioned that her son Carl was also a Real Estate Broker involved with an old high school chum, Logan Steele, and his father, Robert Steele, in two small vacation communities located in Sussex County in Northwestern, New Jersey.

When Carl arrived in Florida he spoke with the Real Estate Broker from Stroudsburg who indicat-ed he knew of a property that would make a great vacation community in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania.

Logan Steele incorporated the Lake Naomi Club on November 4, 1963 and the fi rst property from the Lake Naomi Corporation was sold to Dr. and Mrs. Vincent Hohl on May 11, 1964. Since then Carl Fiers, his brother Tom and Lake Naomi Real Estate have been involved in the initial sale of every property in Lake Naomi and Timber Trails.

Carl Fiers, age 84, continues to actively market and sell the Lake Naomi and Timber Trails Com-munity. Talking with him one can tell that his zeal for Lake Naomi - Timber Trails has not changed since that Spring day in 1962 when he stood on the dam with Logan and Robert Steele and looked at that priceless lake and they envisioned the generations of family memories that would be developed over the next 50 years.

Mike Christian Elected TrusteeMike Christian of Collegeville, Pennsylvania

was elected to a three year term on the Board of Trustees effective January 1, 2013. Prior to his election to the Board of Trustees, Mike has served on the Pocono Pines Community Association Board since 2010 and on the Ar-chitectural Review Committee for twelve years where he served as chair for three years.

Mike and his wife Jeanne have a home in Lake Naomi and have held Club Member-ship since 1985. Mike and Jeanne have one adult son Paul.

Mike is Vice President, Head of Global Real Estate for Shire Pharmaceuticals. His career has been evenly split between the IT and Real Estate/Construction worlds. Mike initially studied and worked as a Systems Analyst and then moved to Database Publish-ing. In addition, he has spent over 20 years in the Real Estate/Construction area. Com-munity involvement has always been important to Mike. He has served and chaired various Township Planning Commissions and Conservancies. He was also a Park Com-missioner for Montgomery County Parks.

In response to the question – What is your primary reason for desiring to serve as a Board of Trustee Member? Mike responded, “As an active member of the Club for over 27 years, I believe I have a perspective that maintains a balance between the historical objectives and directions of the Club, while recognizing and including the desire and need to develop currency for the new members, all the while keeping the Club at the highest stan-dards which are expected – and watching the budget to do this!

I have served on many boards and committees, have strong business background and worked collaboratively at strategic and tactical levels. I listen to and learn from all parties and will make the tough decisions in the best interests for the future of the Club as a whole. And most of all, my family and I love Lake Naomi Club and use all of the facilities here. My son has been an active member since birth and worked here summers, my wife spends every summer here and served as Chair of the Tennis Committee and on the BOG, helps run the Rally for the Cure and we plan to retire here. We serve our community and will do what we can to support the Club.”

To read more fun facts about Mike and all the Trustees visit Meet the Club’s BOT online in the Member’s Section of www.LakeNaomiClub.com . Meet the Club’s BOT is found on the About LNC drop down menu. More Boat Racks in 2013

As Pebble Beach has become more heavily utilized over the years the interest in racks has outgrown the numbers available. The end result was a less than organized marina and beach. Some complaints note “last season was nothing short of a mess.” Boats stacked 4 high, boats leaning on trees and boats all around the accesses clogging up walking paths became a regular issue for users. Rangers and Maintenance were repeat-edly called to try to help dig out inconvenienced Members. Certainly we’ve reached the tipping point in this area just as we did at Club Beach and North Beach about 7 years ago. In response to this issue, the Club is reorganizing the existing racks and repurpos-ing the hitching post space. The end result is we’ve made room for 5 more water’s edge racks and 106 more canoe and kayak rack spaces.

North Beach property is also being adjusted to add 72 new canoe/kayak rack spaces without losing any parking or beach space.

And fi nally the highly anticipated Phase 1 of the Park at Club Beach project includes the addition of 12 canoe rack spaces and 56 kayak rack spaces. (More will be reported on the overall project in future issues of Refl ections.)

These necessary enhancements are sure to help accommodate many Members in need of placement for their watercraft. LNC 50th Anniversary Collecting Pins

2013 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Lake Naomi Club. To commemorate this golden milestone Lake Naomi Club will be issuing a series of Anniversary Collecting pins. These pins are designed to be displayed proudly on

your membership lanyard and will be available for various events, celebrations, and accomplishments throughout the year. The fi rst pin was given out dur-ing the Winter Fest Weekend for participating in the Kids Night Out or Après Ski Buffet. Keep an eye on the Summer Calendar, Weekly Flyers, Refl ections and fl yers all year so you don’t miss out on a new pin.

pillars and drapes and a four-foot-long ginger bread New Orleans trolley made by Chef Paul. The Members enjoyed an incredible fi ve course dinner presented to perfection by Chef Paul and his Culinary Team. The food was excellent. The Members were dazzled with the wide choice of appetizers during the cocktail hour. The appetizer display was a particularly big hit! After dinner Members danced the night away into 2013 with a spectacular band, “The Fancy Dancer”. The night was the perfect way to end the year 2012 and ring in 2013. Special thanks go out to Tony Zanin and Phyllis Messina and the House Committee Members for all their hard work in planning and decorating for this special event. Labor Day (last day for LNC’s Summer 2013 schedule)

Looking Ahead to 20132013 marks the 50th Anniversary of

Lake Naomi Club. There will be sev-eral events and activities throughout the year sponsored by different LNC Com-mittees to celebrate this achievement.

For those Members who are plan-ning now for the Season the following tentative dates are provided for facility openings and special events:

Lake Naomi Clubhouse Closes for Spring CleaningEach year the Clubhouse closes for a week to spruce

everything up for the Spring and Summer. This year the Clubhouse will be completely closed from Sunday, March 3rd through Friday, March 8th and from Mon-day, March 11th through Thursday, March 14th. The Clubhouse will be open on Saturday, March 9th for the traditional St. Patrick’s Day Member event.

Busy Year for LN-TT RangersUnder the direction of Chief Ranger John Lam-

berton, the Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Patrol Rangers were very busy during 2012 handling 5,381 calls and logging over 73,000 patrol miles on the Club’s four Ranger vehicles. During 2012 the Patrol Rangers also conducted 5,820 paid house checks and 3,538 random house checks.

The Timber Trails Gate House Rangers also had a busy year logging in 14,200 visitors and 9,376 contractors for a total of 19,563 sign ins. The Patrol Rangers are also very ac-tive with the Recreation Department by having a full-time Ranger assigned to Kids Klub and night recreation at the Community Center and conducting several safety programs at Kids Klub during the summer. Congratulations to this fi ne group of men and women for their dedicated service to the property Owners of Lake Naomi – Timber Trails. The Dress Code at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse

In order to maintain the quality experience that the Members expect at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse, Club Members and Guests must wear Dressy Casual appropriate attire when dining at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse. While jackets are not required, they are welcomed at all times.

In the Main Dining Room and the Tall Timbers Room gentlemen and young men 16 and older must wear a collared shirt or a comparable dress shirt at all times. Beach attire, T-shirts, cut-offs, tank tops and hats are not permitted at any time. Except for special functions where they are appropriate (for example, member events), blue denim jeans are discouraged (however not prohibited) on Saturday nights.

For Sunday Breakfast Buffets dressy casual is recommended. Gentlemen and young men 16 and older must wear a collared shirt or a comparable dress shirt at all times. Beach attire, T-shirts, cut-offs, tank tops and hats are not permitted at any time.

The Clubhouse Committee acknowledges that some Members strongly prefer a more casual dress code. However, we still encourage dress that would be considered business, dressy casual or resort casual, and believe diners will be most comfortable following those guidelines.

The Club is entrusting our Members to use good judgment concerning what is appro-priate attire when coming to the Club to dine. Under-shirts, sleeveless t-shirts, printed tee-shirts, short shorts and bare midrift tops are unacceptable.

Please inform your guests of this policy before they arrive at the Clubhouse. In the event of questionable attire, the decision of the Clubhouse Management will be fi nal.

Community Center Floor, Making ProgressAfter a long and painful wait, the west court of the multi-purpose room at the Logan

Steele Community Center reopened on December 26th in time for Member use during the December holiday week. As reported in the past, a portion of the fl ooring in the multi-purpose room was the only item in the Community Center construction that was less than perfect. It is the Club’s belief that, along with other mitigating circumstances, the special fl ooring was installed before the concrete slab was properly cured.

The Flooring Sub-Contractor pulled up the two worst areas of the damaged fl ooring, reprepared the concrete below the fl ooring and reattached the fl ooring. The diffi culty was the work that should have taken the Flooring Sub-Contractor a maximum of six weeks to complete dragged on for almost sixteen weeks.

Once the Club’s punch list items on the fl oor repair are cleared, the Club will begin a six month evaluation period on the repairs before any litigation resumes or a settlement is negotiated.

The Club appreciates the patience and support of the Members while the legal and negotiating process ever so slowly has moved to get this matter resolved. The very good news is that Members once again have full use of the multi-purpose room and the playing surface is in a better and safer condition than it was one year ago.

Community Center Multipurpose Room EtiquetteWhile tennis players are utilizing the Community Center’s Multipurpose Room for

The Activities Committee wanted to say thank you to all who donated to the 2012 Tree of Mittens which stood 10 feet tall at the Community Center. Important Indoor Pool EtiquetteFor the comfort of all Members using the indoor aquatic facilities, we encourage you

to rinse off before entering the indoor pool, steam room or sauna. This is especially important if you have just worked up a sweat in the fi tness center or multi-purpose room. Showerheads for this purpose are located in the Men’s and Ladies’ locker rooms right before you enter the indoor pool area. Your fellow Members thank you!Soaking Safety

Soaking in the hot tub, steam room or sauna at the Com-munity Center is relaxing, warm and wonderful. The hot water, jets and steam soothe your body and rejuvenate your spirits. The recommended guidelines below will help you to soak safely:

• Consult before you soak. If you suffer from any medical conditions such as cardio-vascular or respiratory disorders, diabetes, high/low blood pressure or others make sure you have your doctor’s okay before you go in the hot tub.

• Observe a reasonable 10 minute total time limit when soaking in the hot tub, steam room or sauna and cool down between uses. **One should never move from the hot tub directly to the steam room or sauna or vice versa if the 10 minute time limit in the spa area has been reached.

• Exit immediately and notify staff if feeling any kind of discomfort such as dizziness, nausea, lightheaded or faint.

• Alcohol, drugs, medications and hot temperatures don’t mix. Spa heat accelerates the effects of alcohol and drugs and can cause unconsciousness.

• Please note that pregnant women should consult their physicians before use and women of childbearing years are advised to observe caution in their use of a spa.

• No one under the age of 16 years are permitted in any Spa Facilities.Special Artwork displayed at the LSCC

The Lake Naomi Club is pleased to announce that the Club has again teamed up with the Pocono Mountain Arts Council to provide space for local artists and members of the council to display their work. Since the Spring of 2008, Members have been able to view the PMAC’s Rotating Gallery right here in the Community Center. The display will consist of eight to ten pieces of artwork from one artist each month and is located in the mezzanine and the stairwell loft area of the Community Center.

It is also no secret that we have many talented artists among the LNC Members. A different artist from LN-TT will display their work each month in the Adult Activity Room of the Community Center. If you are interested in becoming part of this rotat-ing gallery, please contact Lillian Ventrelli at 570-643-7878. Lillian is also looking for young artists to enter their pieces for a Youth Art Exhibit this summer. All participants will receive a blue ribbon and one artist will be awarded a purple ribbon for “Best of Show”. Entries should be received at the Community Center between June 22nd and July 1st. They should be ready to hang, signed, matted and framed. Members are wel-come to enjoy the exhibit by visiting the Art Room located in the Community Center during the month of July.

Community Center GuestsWhile the Club is always happy to entertain guests at Lake Naomi - Timber Trails,

please be mindful of the Community Center guidelines throughout the balance of this winter season, especially President’s Weekend. There is a limit of six guests per day per Family Membership on weekdays and four guests per day per Family Membership on weekends and holidays. Also please remember that in order for a guest to use the facility, the Member must be present with them. In fairness to our Members, we will not be making any exceptions to these policies during winter holiday periods.

Winter Swim LessonsDid you know the Lake Naomi Club has Lifeguards

trained to provide Swim Lessons and our Summer Swim Lesson Head Instructor/Coordinator is on staff year round? Their services are available for private lessons at almost anytime you are here. Why not book time now so children are preparing for summer in advance? Please contact Meredith Sensenig at 570-646-8585 or by e-mail at [email protected] to discuss your options. All lessons must be scheduled in advance.

Lifeguard positions for 2013As the Club continues to look for

the best lifeguards to insure we re-main “The Best” in the Poconos we are now accepting applications for the upcoming summer. Guards reap-plying for returning positions must do so by February 28th to insure their positions are held. Beginning March 1st any remaining openings will begin being fi lled. Winter is Platform Tennis Season

Did you know Platform Tennis is considered a winter sport because it was invented to accommodate tennis players not able to get on the courts once colder weather hit? Leagues, tournaments and special events quickly followed, turning Platform Tennis into one of the best winter outdoor recreational sports. This fast moving game is a great way to warm up outdoors while enjoying the fresh air often missed in winter.

The Platform Tennis court deck has a heating feature to melt away ice prior to your play. PLEASE call the Community Center in advance so we can make sure the deck is clear of snow and ice for you. Courts are available seven days a week anytime the Community Center is open but to reiterate, additional snow and ice removal time may be needed after inclement weather.

Racquets and balls are available for check out at the reception desk. Eye protection is highly recommended and athletic shoes are required.

All Members are permitted to play with no court fees. Reservations are not necessary as the courts are fi rst come, fi rst to play, but if you have a group wishing to play at a particu-lar time, please call the Community Center to reserve the courts with the receptionist.

The reception desk also keeps an informative highlight sheet on plat-form tennis as well as the offi cial rules for the Members who wish to use them. Additional information can be also be found on the APTA website at www.platformtennis.org.

Many Members are now organiz-ing regular games. Please contact Meredith Sensenig at (570) 646-8585 or [email protected] if you are interested in getting involved.

Making Tennis Enjoyable for JuniorsTennis, during the past few years, has made many

changes in the approach to introducing and teach-ing junior players, specifi cally those under the age of 10. Experiences that occur at an earlier age have a great impact on children. I am sure we can all recall an event in our early childhood that stands out in our memory as if it happened yesterday. So the leaders in the international tennis community, the International Tennis Federation, have established new guidelines with regard to equipment for our youngest players, which hopefully will result in a more positive initial experience and keep those young players returning to the court.

The biggest changes have been the sizes of the racquets, the dimensions of the ten-nis court and the types of tennis balls used. The goal is to allow the younger players to experience tennis at their level – lighter and shorter racquets, tennis balls that don’t bounce as high as the adult ball and a court dimension which makes it easier for them to cover. Initial studies have shown that this new initiative is showing positive respons-es from the participants, i.e., more enjoyment from playing; development of better technical skills; and players being able to rally more, which increases enjoyment.

McKee Tennis will follow the ITF guidelines in our teaching programs to the Lake Naomi Club membership. We believe that our juniors will benefi t from this approach and help them develop and transition to each new level of play. If you are interested in reading research regarding the new approach, please visit: http://www.tennisplayand-stay.com/tennis-xpress/existing-research/green-vs-yellow-ball.aspx

Bobby McKee, Tennis ProfessionalWinter Mixed Doubles Round Robins

Join your fellow Members on Wednesday, February 20 and again on Wednesday, March 13 from 3:00-6:00 PM for two Tennis Round Robin Socials. Eight participants can play in the two time slots offered (16 players total) either 3:00-4:30 PM or 4:30-6:00 PM. Please contact the Community Center if you’re interested in getting involved. Sponsor a Friend

Have you ever considered what a great gift it would be to sponsor a friend, family member or neighbor in order that they can have their wedding reception or other spe-cial event at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse?

The Club is a very special place for a wedding reception or other special event for a number of reasons. First, not just anyone can have their event at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse. Only Member Events and Member Sponsored Events are permitted at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse. Second, there isn’t a more beautiful spot in the Mountains of Northeastern Pennsylvania for a wedding reception or other special event. Third, the very professional Clubhouse Staff will do an outstanding job on the presentation of the event and catering to all of your needs as well as the needs of your guests.

The Clubhouse is available for wedding receptions, cocktail parties, luncheons, an-niversaries, brunches or any kind of special event you might imagine from 40 to 200 people. The Tall Timbers Dining Room is available for groups up to 60 people. The Mountaintop Lodge is also available for weddings and special events. Parties from 20-50 people can be served in the main great room. Parties using the outside back courtyard and deck can accommodate 65 to125 people. Using the entire lodge parties of 60-160 can be served.

Call the Lake Naomi Clubhouse today (570, 646-2866) to book your wedding recep-tion or special event or to sponsor a friend, family member or neighbor in booking their wedding reception or special event. You’ll be glad you made the call.Discounts to End March 15th

The discount period for the payment of 2013 Club dues ends on Friday, March 15, 2013. Payments must be received or postmarked by this date in order for the Club Member to take advantage of a discount.

If you have not received your Annual Club Billing and related information, be sure to contact the Administrative Offi ce immediately. The only exception to the March 15th expiration of the “discount period” is for Members who are joining for the fi rst time. In fairness to all Members, there will be no other exceptions. RC Laser Winter Open RegattaThe Radio Controlled Laser Fleet will be hosting

an Open Regatta on Sunday, February 24th from 7:00-11:00 AM in the indoor pool at the LSCC. Sailors should expect up to 20 races during the 4 hours allotted assuming similar participation to previous years. Specifi cally, starts are normally limited to six or seven boats per start in order to maximize the space in the pool. The Member Fleet will work to accommodate visiting guests and all quali-fi ed racers, and hope not to have to limit participation but may do so if registrations drastically increase. Some world class visiting racers have attended in the past making the competition more interesting than a regular biweekly race day. All that suggests you should express your interest in participating as soon as possible. Please contact Meredith Sensenig at [email protected]. Cost for event is $20 per skip-per, trophies will be awarded at the end of the sailing event. Space will be provided the evening before for anyone who would like to set up their boat Saturday night rather than pre 7 AM on Sunday. Skippers, please express your interest in participating in advance by contacting Meredith.

Spectators are encouraged to watch from the spectator deck or the pool area, HOW-EVER no pool use or spa use will be permitted until the event is over and the entire area opens at 11:00 AM. Reminder, the pool area is over 80 degrees, please dress accordingly.Share the 2013 LNC Calendar

The Membership Committee would like to remind you that the 2013 calendar is a means for Club Members to share the quality of life available at Lake Naomi - Timber Trails with friends, colleagues and family. The Committee hopes you will choose a special location for the calendar in your home or offi ce where others will be able to see and enjoy the treasured pictures of Lake Naomi and Timber Trails.

Referrals of potential new Property Owners and Club Members by existing Club Members has long been the number one source of new Club Members. As a part of the MemberShare Referral Program, just email Communications Manager Laura Alte-mose at [email protected] in the event you have a MemberShare Referral Candidate that you would like to receive their own Lake Naomi - Timber Trails Cal-endar. Laura will see that a calendar gets right out to them. You can also call Laura at 570, 646-9191 (Ext. 104) 24 hours a day to request a calendar to be sent.

The Committee would also like to share the calendar with any former LNC Mem-bers. If you have an address of our “LNC Alumni” please send it to Laura.Calling all Members with their last name beginning with R-Z

If your last name begins with the letter R, S, T, U, V, W, X, Y or Z it is time to get your Membership ID picture retaken. The Club has established a four year retake schedule to assure that the Membership ID cards remain current. In order to stagger the picture retakes some Members will have their fi rst picture retaken prior to four years while others will be longer than four years. It is important to make sure that your ID card actually looks like you. Members who are behind in getting their pictures updated could experience inconvenience at a LNC amenity. The LNC Staff Members have been instructed to look closely at the Membership Cards to guarantee each and every Member has their own ID card. The Club encourages the young Members to have their picture taken more often as their appearance can change considerably in just a single year. So to avoid confusion and to avoid delays stop in the Administrative Offi ce to update your Membership ID picture. Does the Club have your current Email Address?

There have been several occasions when Management has sent out a mass email to inform all our Members of weather conditions and important events. Our Members are very thankful to receive this information and they have a sense of comfort in knowing that if there is an important issue they will be the fi rst to know. In addition to being able to sign-up for email groups the Club can email everyone through the website database. This is a secure mass email so that your email address will only be displayed on your computer. Also once a week the Club emails a LNC Newsletter Weekly Update with the latest information on upcoming events and important reminders. Take a moment to update your email address. Click on the Members Section of www.LakeNaomiClub.com, sign-in with your name and password and click on My Profi le that is found in the upper right hand corner above the rotating pictures. Select the edit button next to your name under Contacts. If you have any concerns or questions contact Communications Manager Laura Altemose at [email protected] or 570, 646-9191 ext 104.

Sellers BewareThinking about selling your home in

Lake Naomi – Timber Trails? Picking a real estate broker/agent to list your home is a real key decision. Over the years many Members have discovered that purchasing a property in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails is very differ-ent from purchasing a property in most other locations in the Pocono Region. Thus selling a property in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails is very different and to be successful takes someone who is very knowledgeable about the Com-munity. So before you list your home with a broker/agent, determine if that broker/agent is well versed and ex-perienced in the sale of properties in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails.

Meet Me at the Lodge Did you know that the Mountaintop Lodge has a Facebook page just like the Lake

Naomi Club does? Take a moment to “Like” the MTL and you’ll be kept up to date with special packages and upcoming events. Also, Katie Baxter was kind enough to lend us many brochures and pictures of the Lodge from back in the 1960’s when her family fi rst purchased the building. We will be scanning some of these and posting them for every-one to enjoy. You defi nitely won’t want to miss out.

We would also like to thank all those who came to the Mountaintop Lodge on Sat-urday, January 26th for our fi rst ever “Lunch at the Lodge”. About 50 people came to enjoy a delicious menu of soups, salads and sandwiches created by Peter Koryttko and Pedro Quintaneiro. We are looking into offering more lunch dates in the future and will be sure to keep you updated through email blasts and Facebook.

Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Chef Don will be preparing some special “Desserts for Two” that will be available in the coffee and pastry shop. Forget the box of chocolates and surprise that special person in your life with a fresh baked treat.

In the meantime, have you fi nished planning your family reunion, birthday party or other celebration for this summer? Dates for events at the Mountaintop Lodge are fi lling up rather quickly and you wouldn’t want to miss out. Call us to get your party on the schedule and make it a memorable one.

2013 Membership Required for Golf

Although your 2012 Lake Naomi Club Membership Identifi cation re-mains valid for access to most Club facilities through May 1, 2013, a 2013 Golf Membership will be required to access the Timber Trails Golf Course starting April 12, 2013. Your coopera-tion in this matter is most appreciated. The Golf Course is scheduled (weather permitting) to offi cially open for week-end play beginning Friday, April 12, 2013.

Yoga Retreat at the Mountaintop Lodge

The Fitness Committee and the Mountaintop Lodge will be hosting a Yoga Retreat this spring. This pro-gram will consist of delicious meals, educational workshops, yoga classes, massage packages and quiet time in our beautiful bed and breakfast. Join us for an experience that is sure to enlighten the soul and invigorate the senses. Look for details to be pub-lished soon.

Golf Notes As the temperatures drop and old man winter raises

his head, the springtime seems so far away but opening day at Timber Trails Golf Course is only three months away. The Logan Steele Community Center has great facilities for Members to stay in shape and keep their golf swing fi ne-tuned. The simulator is a very realistic way to hit golf shots and get instant feedback into your swing. Lessons are available all winter long. I will be attending the PGA Merchandising show in Orlando, but will be back in the Pocono’s in early February. You can email me directly at [email protected] to set up a lesson.

The Ladies Golf League has been very popular with many familiar faces and some new ones too. Playing in the Ladies League is a great way to meet new friends and rekindle old friendships. This year the league will start on Thursday, May 30th. The league will be con-ducted every Thursday, with the exception of July 2nd which is a Tuesday. The Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Breast Cancer Rally Golf Tournament will be on Thursday, July 18th. The Ladies League will conclude on August 22nd followed by the luncheon.

Organizing the game of the week and getting the groups paired properly makes it imper-ative that all players arrive by 8:30 AM to be in place for a 9:00 AM tee off. We also ask that all players notify the Golf Center by 5:00 PM on Tuesday if they would like to play that week. Grace Conger will organize the Ladies League, as she has done so passionately the last few years. Please call the Golf Center 570 646-9060 if you have any questions.

The Ladies pre-season clinics will start Tuesday, May 28th at 9:00 AM with playing on the course and learning strategies to lower your score. The Tuesday, June 4th clinic will feature putting. You will learn how to putt more consistently and eliminate three putts. Tuesday, June 11th will be the chipping and pitching clinic. Discover the secrets to getting the ball up and down from around the greens. Tuesday, June 18th we will work on irons and hybrids and discuss the importance of club selection, swing dynamics and fundamentals. Tuesday, June 25th will be the dreaded driver swing clinic. Learn some vital tips to allow you to hit the ball further. During that clinic I will explain the importance of having the right driver in the bag and eliminating that troublesome slice.

Boat Rental ProgramThis is the season to register your interest in do-

nating your unused boat to the Boat Rental Program. The Club is seeking Laser Sailboats and newer Sunfi sh Sailboats. In return for your donation you are entitled to 8 free boat rentals for the next 5 seasons that can be used by yourself, your special family members and your guests.

The boat rental program is available on weekends beginning Memorial Day weekend and everyday during the main summer season (fourth Saturday in June – Labor Day.) The fl eet currently consists of single and double kayaks, canoes and row boats. Sailboats are available on a limited basis, once you’ve been “authorized” by a trained Member of the Sailing Staff.

For more information on pre-season Boat Donations please e-mail Operations Coordi-nator Meredith Sensenig at [email protected] or at the Community Center (570, 646-8585). Let’s get the unused boats out on the water where they belong!Boat and Canoe Racks

Each year Management receives numerous concerns from Members who do not receive boat or canoe rack assignments in the area they desire. Please keep in mind that boat and canoe racks are assigned according to the member’s assignment area on a fi rst paid, fi rst assigned basis. Many racks have already been assigned to those Members who have made payment in January. Thus the earlier you make your 2013 Club dues payment, the better your chances are of being assigned racks in your designated area.

Those Members who opt to subscribe to a boat and/or canoe rack are subscribing to the rack from the Saturday prior to Memorial Day Weekend until the Monday of Columbus Day weekend. The actual dates in 2013 are May 18th through October 14th. Please do not occupy boat or canoe racks prior to the starting date indicated. When you do occupy your rack, make sure that you are on the rack that has been assigned to you. The elevated racks are for canoes and kayaks only. They are not built to withstand the weight of any other craft. Please do not put anything other than canoes or kayaks on these racks.

MemberShare Referral-How Does It Work?

Introduce your friends, relatives and business associates to the Lake Naomi-Timber Trails Community. When that person purchases a proper-ty in Lake Naomi-Timber Trails and joins the Club, the Referring Member is eligible to collect $500 in “Club Dollars”. You can even earn Club Dollars if your referral vacations at LN-TT and becomes a Temporary Member. The Temporary Member-ship Membershare Referral Program will reward Members with 25 Club Dollars for each week the new Tem-porary Member joins the Club. A maximum of 100 Club Dollars can be rewarded for each referral. How do I get the “Club Dollars”?

First, you will need to fi ll out the Referral Registration in the Online Offi ce at the Member’s section of www.LakeNaomiClub.com, or pick up a MemberShare Referral Card at the Administrative Offi ce or at one of the participating Pocono Pines Real Estate agencies. This referral information must be received at the Administrative Offi ce before your referral joins the Club.

How can I use the “Club Dollars”?The “Club Dollars” can be used in two different ways. They can be used towards your Membership dues or for treating your friends and family to a number of nights out at the Lake Naomi Clubhouse.

Can I share the “Club Dollars”?You can opt to share all or a part of your “Club Dollars” with your referral family in order to make it easier for them to join the Club.

Does it really work?In 2012, 24 new Members came from the MemberShare Referral Program and 48 new Temporary Members came from the Tempo-rary Member Referral Program. Referrals are the Club’s Number One source of new Members. The Marketing Task Force would love nothing more than to award lots of “Club Dollars” through the Mem-berShare Referral Program in 2013 and beyond.

Remember....In order for you to qualify for the Club Dollars the person you refer must be totally new to Lake Naomi-Timber Trails and the referral card must be turned into the Administra-tive Offi ce before the property is purchased or rented.

Contractor WarningPast experience has shown that when the country is in a down economy, it tends to

bring out a lot of new Contractors. Many, unfortunately, have little or no business experi-ence and often do not have the proper amount of liability, vehicle and workers compensa-tion insurance, if they have any insurance at all.

While many of these individuals are well intentioned, having a pickup truck, some signs and the desire to be a contractor does not make one a contractor. If someone is hurt on your property, including the contractor, and they do not have insurance, the liability generally falls back on the property owner.

It is highly recommended that before you hire any contractor to work on your property, be sure to determine if they are licensed by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, have previously done work in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails, require proof of liability, vehicle and workers compensation insurance and check their references.

Need help identifying contractors who have successfully completed projects in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails in the past, contact Association Manager/Architectural Inspector Wendi Freeman by email at [email protected] or by telephone at 570, 646-9191, extension 107.

Over the years the Club has received phone calls from Members inquiring about the renting their home at LN-TT. Renting your home even for a couple weeks can help generate some extra income. We have all witnessed either in person or from the television the devastation that Hurricane Sandy caused the East Coast. 2013 will be the year of rebuilding many of the businesses and rental homes in the beloved shore towns. Many of the seasoned shore goers are looking to try something different this summer. The Club has received several phone calls from potential renters for this upcoming season. Bob Bossuyt, Club Member and owner of Century 21 Real Estate, also reported an increase in inqui-ries for rental homes for 2013. His concern along with the other local realtors is that the demand for rental homes will exceed the supply. So if you have ever considered renting your house this is the year to give it a try. The Club highly recommends that you use one of the local real estate offi ces to rent your house. These agencies have a great track record and screen all tenants before handing over the keys. In addition they are great ambassadors for the Club. Remember the number two source of new Mem-bers for the Lake Naomi Club is from people who fi rst rented in LN-TT.

What is the date for the Independence Day Picnic in 2013?

The Independence Day Picnic in 2013 will be held on Thursday, July 4th.

Why does the Clubhouse request reservations for dinner in the main dining room?

The popular misconception of why the Clubhouse asks for reser-vations is so staff can be sched-uled accordingly. While this is partially true, the primary reason for reservations is to control the fl ow of the dining room business to guarantee that the service staff and kitchen staff run effi ciently. The most popular eating time is between 6:30 PM - 7:00 PM and if every Member arrives during this time period the operations of the Clubhouse become back logged which results in delayed service to the Membership. The goal is to provide consistent plati-num service to the Members and reservation helps the staff accom-plish this. Walk-ins will always be welcomed but please try to make a reservation to ensure that you receive the Platinum Club Service that you deserve.

Timber Trails Member GateThe Timber Trails Community Association installed an automated Members gate

system at the entrance to Timber Trails. The gate is activated by a bar code reader that reads a bar code sticker on your vehicle and access to Timber Trails is obtained. This gate will provide quicker access to amenities by minimizing the waiting time for guests to be signed in at the Ranger attended gate. TTCA is offering the benefi t of this system to all Lake Naomi Club Members. As a Lake Naomi Club Member, you can purchase a bar code sticker or stickers at a cost of $10 per sticker. Bar code stickers must be applied to the car by a Ranger or Administrative Team Member. Stickers are available for purchase and application Tuesday through Saturday from 9:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at the Administrative Offi ce. Kindly note that the manufacturer does not recommend application of these stickers at temperatures below 35 degrees. Also ice scrapers can seriously damage the sticker, so use caution. Please remember that the sticker needs to be visible to the code reader. If the window is partially down or the sticker is covered by snow, the gate will not function. Please note – The Lake Naomi Vehicle ID stickers are also required if you are part of the optional barcode program. If you have questions regarding this program, please feel free to contact Association Manager Wendi Freeman at [email protected] or 570, 646-9191 ext. 107.From the ARC

Spring will be here before you know it and when it arrives, everyone will want to enjoy the fresh air and work outside. If you are planning to build a new house, undertake any major landscaping project or make any type of structural changes on your property, it is important that you abide by the Deed Restrictions as well as the “Architectural Standards and Requirements” for the Lake Naomi – Timber Trails Community. These standards are intended to promote harmonious design, the protection of the environment and collective interests of owners of property in the Community.

Included in the S&R’s is a requirement that all propane tanks be screened from sight by using either privacy lattice or landscaping that provides suffi cient screening or both for maximum screening. Great strides have been taken over the last several years to reduce the number of unscreened tanks in the Community. These unsightly tanks show up in even greater numbers during this time of year and new ones are added all the time. As propane tanks detract from the beauty of your home and the community, this stringent effort will continue. If you haven’t already done so, please be a good neighbor and screen your tank.

Blue tarps are also not permitted in Lake Naomi – Timber Trails. Dark green and brown tarps are much more aestheti-cally pleasing and blend better with our natural environment. Cramers Home Center, a short drive east on 940, usually has these in stock.

If you have questions, please do not hesitate to contact Architectural Coordinator Sharon Lee Heron at [email protected] or 570, 646-9191 extension 106.
