DigiSign
DigiSign is an enthusiastic team of third year students studying
Graphic Communications Management at Ryerson University.
We will be presenting our live webinar on Tuesday, November
19, 2013 at 3:00pm. DigiSign is undertaking this webinar to buildawareness and stimulate interest on the growing industry of LED
digital signage.
LED digital signage is a relatively new and growing innovation
that is dominating the signage industry.LED signs are digital
displays that use LED (light emitting diode) technology to present
content both indoors and outdoors. They have the advantage of
giving businesses a professional image, as they increase profits,
sales, and customer satisfaction.LED digital signs requirevirtually no maintenance, have extremely low energyconsumption, and feature attention-getting colors. In our fast-
paced world, it is important to stay up-to-date with information.
These signs allow advertisers to update content quickly and
easily, through software at a secondary location.

Conductive Ideas
Conductive Ideas is a team of Ryerson University students
exploring the possibilities of conductive inks in the packaging
and print industry. They will be presenting a webinar on
November 19th at 4 pm discussing how it works, how it isperforming in the industry and possibilities of future uses.
Conductive ink is a new ink slowly being introduced into the
commercial sector of the print industry. A few ink companies
have begun exploring the potential of these inks, formulating
their own brands and even commercializing it for consumers in
the form of pens. This ink has conductive capabilities due to its
copper and silver components. When connected to a battery, the
ink creates a circuit able to power a load, such as a light. It can
be used in almost anything, from a greeting card to even being a
main component of solar panels. It has become a new creative
avenue for designers and printers to explore as well as having
valuable uses beyond the print world. As this technology is not
particularly well known we aim to educate students and industry
members about this technology and how it fits into the print and
packaging world.

The Luxe Look
The topic we have chosen for the major project is luxury
packaging and how a packages appearance affects theperceived quality of the product.
In particular, the focus of the project will be on the
pharmaceutical industry, more specifically cosmetics. Luxury
packaging plays an important role within this category because
of the wide variety of similar products offered by an even wider
variety of competitors. With that being said, having
differentiation within the market is fundamental, which can be
achieved by the finishing techniques that are implemented withluxury packaging.
An eye-catching appearance will attract the attention of many
customers at the point of purchase, which will raise brand-
awareness and will create an association with the high-quality
merchandise. This affects the amount consumers are willing to
pay in order to attain the product, as well as the price point atwhich the company chooses to sell the product for.
The Luxe Look is a group comprised of 9 students at Ryerson
University. Six of us are in there third year, each pursuing aBachelor of Technology in Graphic Communications
Management. The rest of the group are exchange students. Two
from Germany from Media University of Stuttgart and one from
Denmark Danish School of Media and Journalism.

Out with the Old, In with the U Ubiquitous Networks
Out with the Old, In with the U is an exploratory webinar about u-
commerce that will be presented by a team of third-year Graphic
Communications Management students from Ryerson University
on Tuesday, November 18, 2013 at 5:30pm.
U-Commerce (ubiquitous commerce) is an emerging category of
technology that allows commerce to be performed anywhere, at
any time, by anyone. The goal of u-commerce is to make it easier
and more accessible for users to shop, earn rewards, and
receive notifications from their favourite retail stores,
restaurants and applications. U-Commerce incorporates real-time connections with sellers and buyers, and tracks the
preferences of the buyers. While the result of u-commerce is
meant to enhance the consumer experience, there are privacy
issues as this new market is not strongly regulated at this time.
Team U will be presenting the details of how u-commerce works,
who it affects, what the benefits are, and when it will be used by
exploring consumer behaviours, customer security and privacy,
and the four pillars of u-commerce - ubiquitous, uniqueness,
universality, and unison. The next evolution of retail experiences
will be highly affected by this technology, so make sure U join usby tuning in!

NanoPrint
On Tuesday November 26that 3:30pm, NanoPrint will bepresenting a revolutionary topic to the printing world. That topic
is the next generation technology that is none other than
Nanography.
Who is NanoPrint and what is Nanography? NanoPrint is a team
of nine Ryerson University students, majoring in Graphic
Communications Management who share a passion for
Nanography. Our goal is to educate and inform individuals on this
up and coming technology. Nanography is an incredibly versatile
form of digital printing, capable of printing on essentially any
substrate. How can this be possible? As the name implies, the
nanographic process implements the idea of printing with
incredibly small particles. The nano sized ink droplets and the
thinner ink film allow for enhanced adhesion on various
substrates without seeping into the substrate fibres. To put this
into perspective one nano ink particle could be compared to that
of a soccer ball in relation to the size of the earth. The images
produced, as a result are extremely crisp and vivid. The
NanoPrint team hopes you find the idea of Nanography as
exciting as we do, and we encourage you to participate in our
webinar to learn more.

Printicular would like to invite and welcome everyone to view our
upcoming webinar about lenticular printing, labeled "Print in
Motion"!
Lenticular printing has been around for half a century, but it
wasnt until recently that its popularity started to grow. The
emergence of new technologies allows lenticular printing to now
exhibit more features by expanding its range of motion and
depth. Our webinar will briefly discuss the steps required in the
prepress, printing, and finishing processes and how this medium
can be applied within the graphic arts industry. Although once
categorized as something novelty, the presentation will show
how the illusionary effects of lenticular printing can be
implemented among printed products as a successful marketing
tool.
If this peaks your interest, please attend our "Print in Motion"
webinar on November 26, beginning at 4:00pm. Come learn more
about lenticular printing and how you can make use of this
technology into virtually any printed product! We will show you a
different perspective of printing, literally!

Project AVC: Security Printing
Do you ever wonder if the money and cheques you receive from
others are genuine? How can the average person tell just by
looking at it? No one would ever want to be scammed out of
counterfeit products or money. Technology available in themarket today is getting better, and with better technology, it
becomes easier for scam artists to counterfeit high-value
documents and money, while it gets harder for us to tell the
difference. Not only is this important for individuals in our
everyday lives, but also for the health and survival of every
company.
We are excited to announce the initiation of Project AVC
(Authenticate, Validate, and Certify), a project started by a group
of students in the GCM program attending Ryerson
University. The idea behind Project AVC is to explore and share
the techniques involved in security printing, specifically, the
prevention of counterfeit and forgery of money.
Project AVC will present a dynamic and interactive webinar to
industry professionals, students, professors, and other parties
interested in our findings and research. During our webinar
session, we will provide an overview of what security printing is,
its importance, the different techniques used to prevent forgery, new technology in the market to help prevent counterfeiting, and
how you can save your company from encountering these
issues.
