VSAF Football Championship 2013 Event Report

Foreword

The success of the Badminton Tournament taken place shortly two months before our

actual championship and expectations from our sport lovers had greatly encouraged us to

work hard on finding deserved teams of honour. We would like to give our gratitude

towards all the volunteers and supporters who help contributing for the greatest moments

of this sport to happen.

About

The Vietnamese Students Association in Finland (Vietnamilaiset Opiskelijat Ry -

abbreviation VSAF) founded in 2003 with the aim of organizing social activities that help

preserving national culture among Vietnamese oversea students and Viet-origin Finns in

Finland.

So far since establishment, we’ve managed to hold several sport events, cultural-

exchange activities and other welcoming activities for newbies to help them integrating

with Finnish social life, we’ve also organized Finnish Education Seminars in Vietnam.

1. General Information

Concept, date and time The Football Championship lies in series of activities to celebrate 40th year anniversary

of diplomatic relation between Finland- Vietnam (1973- 2013) and Vietnam National

Day September 2nd.

This is a one-day event starting from 9am and finishing at 8pm on September 7th

with a

lot of excitement, surprise and glory happiness. We’re grateful to have A-link Arena

(Kylävainiontie 20, Espoo) as the hosting site for 2 consecutive years.

Goal The goal of the Football championship is to promote exchanges of football playing

techniques and to raise awareness of healthy lifestyle by practicing sports to the

community.

Target Since the Championship is held when autumn semester start at almost every universities,

we decided to organize it as one-day event only. Therefore the limitation has been put

down to 10 participating teams. However the goal was not met since one team resigned at

last-minute.

Attendance The 2013 championship is the first time we have foreign participants from a whole team

to join. Below is the list of 9 fearless squads divided into 2 groups, their team members

come from cities of Vaasa, Kouvola, Lahti and the greater Helsinki area:

Referee cost 340 €

Food & Beverage 100 €

Prize in cash, cup & medals 650 €

VietCharm Dancers show 50 €

Organizing cost 430 €

Surplus 780 €

The reason for huge amount of surplus is because of prohibition from the hosting site to

bring inside event foods other than sweets and breads. We also earn savings from

spending on balls and full- price of referee and venue costs.

The profit will be reserved separately from the main account as capital for our football

championship in summer 2014.

4. Future Development

We promise to rock harder next time! After getting feedbacks and suggestions from

participants here are some issues that can be improved:

On-the-go foods offered during matches,

especially Vietnamese exquisites for foreign

players. Some street foods such as Saigon baguette,

summer and spring roll, sticky rice, dessert soup

…are chosen as the most appropriate and

recommended on the menu list.

Warming-up show at the beginning, or

some relaxing games at the closing ceremony for

getting every player to know about other players.
