Led by reigning track points king and two-time defending Series champion Matt Sheppard from nearby Waterloo and 2011 Canandaigua tour winner Billy Decker from Unadilla in New York's Southern Tier, the best Big-Block Modified pilots in the Northeast will once again converge on the historic half-miler, each chasing the $6,000 top prize in 64 laps of green flag feature race action that comprise the 2 nd Annual Jan Corcoran Memorial. Joining the star-studded show of touring pros and weekend warriors will be a full card of NAPA Sportsman, Street Stock and Pure Stock racing. Pit gates swing open at 2pm and grandstand seating begins at 3 o'clock, with qualifying scheduled for 5:00 sharp. “We originally looked at a series show later in the summer yet the mid-week date presented a number of obstacles,” noted sophomore CMP Promoter Jeremie Corcoran. “Fortunately, DC Rauscher and Xtreme Lubricants stepped in to make this whole deal happen and give our fans and racers another memorable event to kick off the season.” Former Canandaigua track champion Decker returned to familiar territory last June, outlasting all-time tour titlist Brett Hearn to capture the inaugural Corcoran Memorial. Himself a two-time Mr. DIRTcar champion, Decker topped a stellar field of Big- Blocks in the Series' first visit to the ‘Land of Legends’ since 2009. Buckled in behind the wheel of the familiar red LJL Motorsports no. 91 Gypsum Wholesalers/Bicknell mount, Decker out-distanced Sussex, N.J. speedster Hearn by three car-lengths with another half-dozen separating third-place finisher and Watertown, N.Y. native Tim McCreadie. Canadian invader Stewart Friesen grabbed fourth with three laps to go from 'Super Matt,' the top finishing CMP regular.
