Problem Statement We want to be able to forecast what women in the United States will want for 2012 before it becomes a visible trend It’s important to understand our past to have a good foundation to predict the future. If we do not recognize key elements from our past we will head into our market blind. We want to be ahead of the business cycle and innovative curve to maximize our potential gains. We will research and analyze past cultural, political, economic, and social events to predict trends for 2012 Data and Context Other Perspectives It is forecasted in 2012 that almost half the adult population will be obese. Although we are heading into a positive social mood this could lead to a more conservative look. People would show less skin and dress in looser fitting clothes. This could also boost the sportswear industry and increase sportswear as everyday attire. Own Perspective: ‘What If’ Scenario Positive Social Mood The war in Iraq is predicted to be over August 31, 2010. Some troops will remain in Iraq and slowly trickle out. The United States will also be in a better place after their long recession. These two events, having been part of a negative social mood in the previous years, will be a refreshing new start for the United States. Negative Social Mood The United States may fear going back into a recession or war, especially with North Korea who may use nuclear warfare. Obesity rates will continue to be a growing problem. Conclusion and Opportunity 2012 will be a new start for the United States. Like preceding recessions and wars, styles will be more masculine for women and the colors will be brighter. Brighter colors show a more positive mood versus dull colors for a negative mood. Women will show more skin, which is why we predict lower cut backs and deep V-necks, which were popular after the recession in the '80s. High-waist pants and skirts, also popular in the '80s, will make another appearance. Skirts will be at the knee or shorter depending on the top paired with it fitting close to the body. Since the social mood will be more positive, women will want to show their femininity to counteract their masculine pieces, such as argyle sweaters. Argyle sweaters will be seen in the fall and winter seasons possibly put together with a feminine bottom. Problem Statement

We want to be able to forecast what women in the United States will want for 2012 before it becomes a visible trend

It’s important to understand our past to have a good foundation to predict the future. If we do not recognize key elements fromour past we will head into our market blind. We want to be ahead of the business cycle and innovative curve to maximize ourpotential gains.

We will research and analyze past cultural, political, economic, and social events to predict trends for 2012

Data and Context

Other Perspectives

It is forecasted in 2012 that almost half the adult population will be obese. Although we are heading into a positive social

mood this could lead to a more conservative look. People would show less skin and dress in looser fitting clothes. This could

also boost the sportswear industry and increase sportswear as everyday attire.

Own Perspective: ‘What If’ Scenario

Positive Social Mood

The war in Iraq is predicted to be over August 31, 2010. Some troops will remain in Iraq and slowly trickle out. The United States will also be in a better place after their long recession. These two events, having been part of a negative social mood in the previous years, will be a refreshing new start for the United States.

Negative Social Mood

The United States may fear going back into a recession or war, especially with North Korea who may use nuclear warfare. Obesity rates will continue to be a growing problem.

Conclusion and Opportunity

2012 will be a new start for the United States. Like preceding recessions and wars, styles will be more masculine for women and the colors will be brighter. Brighter colors show a more positive mood

versus dull colors for a negative mood. Women will show more skin, which is why we predict lower cut backs and deep V-necks, which were popular after the recession in the '80s. High-waist pants and

skirts, also popular in the '80s, will make another appearance. Skirts will be at the knee or shorter depending on the top paired with it fitting close to the body. Since the social mood will be more positive, women will want to show their femininity to counteract their masculine pieces, such as

argyle sweaters. Argyle sweaters will be seen in the fall and winter seasons possibly put together with a feminine bottom.
