    A CODE OF CONDUCT will apply to all who attend the Eisteddfod. No yelling, whistling etc. during or afterperformances. Performers must observe Theatre Etiquette and cover costumes when in the Theatre Audience.No entry to the Theatre whilst performers are on stage.

    Inappropriate behaviour towards volunteers and committee members will not be tolerated and may result indisqualification.

    The Orange Regional Arts Foundation supports and encourages a wide variety of arts related activities andprojects in the region (including the City of Orange Eisteddfod).     Entries

    1. This competition is open to Amateurs only. ie people who do not derive their major income fromperformance.

    2. ENTRIES: In 2012 entries will be made on-line at www.geni.gaia.com.auIf you have difficulties with on-line entries please contact us for help. An on-line admin fee willbe $4 per invoice. Method of payment will be credit/debit card only.Manual entries may be sent to Entry Secretary. PO Box 8556, Orange. NSW 2800 accompaniedby cheque or money order for entry fee.

    3. No entries will be accepted or recorded unless accompanied by full entry fee.4. No refund will be made for an entry fee paid after the entry has been accepted.5. In all competitions which are subject to an age limit, the age of the competitor shall be taken at the

    31st December, 2012. The Committee reserves the right to call upon any competitor at any time toprovide a copy of his/her Birth Certificate and can withhold any prize until certificate has beenproduced.

    6. Local is a competitor living in an area with a 2800 postcode.7. Restricted means never having won a first prize in that section at any age at any Eisteddfod or

    competition up to the closing date of entries. (This refers to the title of the section, not theroutine/piece.) Competitors eligible are permitted to enter Restricted or Open sections, or both, butmust not repeat the same routine/piece.

    8. In all sections where 2 or more are competing, the names of each competitor must be given at the timeof entry, except in the case of groups.

    9. Competitors must not have been pupils of the adjudicator in the 6 months prior to the Eisteddfod.10. Entrants are responsible for royalty and copyright payments and liabilities if any.11. Competitors enter at their own risk.12. Notification of appearance is not given by mail unless a program is ordered on entering.13. All care has been taken in the compilation of the Syllabus and Program and the Committee reserves

    the right to rectify any errors or omissions.14. Please check receipt of entries carefully and rectify errors or omissions immediately, as no

    alterations can be made after program is printed.

    Performances

    15. The Committee reserves the right to amend the program at any time, to appoint a substitute oradditional adjudicator, to divide or combine any sections or to alter competition times.

    16. No competitor may compete more than once in any one section unless specific rules apply.17. Competitors must be ready to take their place on the stage at the appointed time and in the order set

    down in the program.18. No person may take another persons place in the program.19. No medals are to be worn on stage.

    20. No rehearsals are allowed on the stage of any venue during the Eisteddfod.21. Competitors as nominated by the Committee will be invited to perform at the Grand Concert.22. No videos or photographs are to be taken of any performance with the exception of the official

    photographers. This includes the use of mobile phones.23. All mobile phones are to be switched off in all venues during performances.24. Audience members are asked not to enter or leave the venue while competitors are performing.

    Adjudication

    25. The decision of the adjudicator is final unless a protest is lodged. Protests must be in writing, setting outfull details of the protest and accompanied by a deposit of $5. If the protest is not upheld the deposit isforfeited.

    26. Verbal grievances/complaints to individual Committee members, volunteers or other parents arenot in the spirit of the Eisteddfod competition and will not be tolerated and could lead toexclusion from any further participation in the Eisteddfod.

    27. The Adjudicator has the authority of the Committee to withhold or alter any prize which he/she is of theopinion that sufficient merit has not been displayed.

    28. A report sheet from the Adjudicator will be available free of charge for competitors in each section.29. If any competitor, teacher or parent approaches the Adjudicator before or during any section, the

    competitor may be disqualified.

    Electrical Equipment

    30. All electrical equipment brought into the performance venues must be checked by a Certified Electricianprior to the Eisteddfod and have a current electrical tag in place. Any electrical equipment not meetingthe Occupational Health and Safety guidelines will not be allowed to be used.

    Competitors

    31. The Committee reserves the right to use the competitors details in the compilation of the program,including photographs for publicity purposes.

    Spirit of the Eisteddfod

    The motto of our Eisteddfod is Learn and Grow Through Performance and we aim to provide asupportive and encouraging environment where competitors can achieve their best.The Eisteddfod Committee values the positive contribution of a supportive and respectful audience toall competitors.

    GENERAL DANCE RULES

    RESTRICTED means NOT having won a FIRST PRIZE in any section at any previous Eisteddfod. TheRestricted Rule applies up to the date ofCLOSE OF ENTRIES OF THE EISTEDDFOD.

    Please leave DRESSING ROOMS and GREENROOM tidy. No responsibility will be taken for lost ordamaged property. Please ask at Eisteddfod office for lost property.

    Groups who are not competing in the current section called will not be allowed in the Green Room dueto the congestion it causes.

    Spraying of shoes within the Theatre is PROHIBITED. Prompting, except by the adjudicator, will not be permitted. Presentation of prizes will be on stage for Major prizes Championships, Scholarships and trophy

    awards. All other prizes are to be collected from the Eisteddfod office following adjudication ie report

    sheets, medals, monies, certificates. Competitors as nominated by the Committee will be invited to perform at the Grand Concert. Winners o

    Scholarships and Open Championships must be available to perform at the Grand Concert if requiredor prize money may be withheld.

    CDs/Tapes. Please note: CDRWs DO NOT PLAY on the Theatres sound system. Pleaseensure all CDS are CDRs. The sound system at the Civic Theatre must be used for playing of allCDs/tapes. The Committee will provide a competent person to play music. Each dance must be on aseparate CD/tape. Please ensure a backup copy is available.

    All CDs/tapes are to be clear and audible at set at the correct position, CLEARLY MARKED withcompetitors name, dance school and copyright number as well as SECTION NUMBER ANDCOMPETITORS NUMBER.

    Tapes are to be handed in to the GREENROOM AREA at least 2 sections before competing. Anyspecific instructions must be attached and explicit. Please leave CDs in cases. It is the competitorsresponsibility to hand in music on time and collect it after performance.

    PHOTOGRAPHY: John Reid Smith (still photography) and KEA Video productions will be inattendance for the Dancing Sections of the eisteddfod.NO VIDEO OR PHOTOGRAPHS ARE TO BE TAKEN AT THE PERFORMANCE WITH THEEXCEPTION OF THE OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPHERS. This includes the use of mobile phones.

    PROPS RULING

    Props will be limited to ONE prop PLUS a choice of either a small prop OR a hand-held prop. A chairwill be allowed if needed to complete a set. (ie table and chair set together etc.) NO straw, glitter,lighted candles, sparklers, lighted cigarettes, or any naked flame will be permitted. For furtherclarification please contact a dance committee member.)

    All equipment must be moved from the stage area at the conclusion of each section.

    INTERPRETATIONS OF DANCE STYLES

    Modern Expressive - Slow controlled movements of modern ballet, expressing the music with emotion. Set to

    lyrical music.Contemporary - Free movements and original choreography content. Set to any music.Song & Dance/Theatrical - Based on Musical Theatre.

    TIME LIMITS (unless otherwise stated)SOLOS 6yrs & under up to 2.5mins.

    7 yrs & over up to 3mins.

    SONG & DANCE SOLOS up to 3.5mins.

    DUOS/TRIOS up to 3.5mins.

    CABARET SECTION up to 5min.

    GROUPS (INCLUDING SCHOOL GROUPS) up to 5mins.SONG & DANCE/THEATRICAL GROUPS up to 8mins.

    TIME LIMITS WILL BE STRICTLY ADHERED TO.

    A timer will be in use during the entire Eisteddfod. The timer will be set at the COMMENCEMENT of the musicor the Dance, whichever occurs first. A buzzer will sound at the end of the allocated time, after which the musicwill cease. Adjudication will also cease at this point and the competitor must bow and exit the stage.Disqualification will only take place if this rule is not adhered to. The committee is aware that tape players playat different speeds and have taken this into consideration.

    next age group or a similar section.* IMPROVISATIONS

    Ballet/Demi to be danced in plain coloured leotard(a short sheer ballet skirt is permissible no head pieces permitted).

    Jazz/Tap/Modern to be danced in a one-piece plain coloured leotard.(a short sheer ballet skirt or jazz shorts are permissible).

    The Adjudicator will choose the music.

    Please refer to props ruling No.29 for ALL Solo Routines - this ruling excludes Entertainment,

    Theatrical and Groups Sections.

    CHAMPIONSHIPS

    Ballet Championships Dancers entering the Ballet Championship must have entered and danced in their own age sectioin the following: Classical and Demi-Character solos.Competitors in each championship are to perform a classical & a Demi-Character routine.

    Tap Championships Dancers entering the Tap Championship must have entered and danced in their Tap own ageSection PLUS one of the following: Waltz Tap, Fast Tap, Tap Ensemble.Competitors in each championship are to perform a slow and a fast routine.

    Jazz Championships Dancers entering the Jazz Championship must have entered and danced in their own age section

    in at least one of the following: Jazz, Cabaret or Hip Hop solos.Competitors in each championship are to perform a Jazz Solo.

    National Character ChampionshipsDancers entering the National Character Championship must have entered and danced in theNational Character section in their own age section.Competitors in each championship are to perform one National Character routine.

    Modern ChampionshipsDancers entering the Modern Championship must have entered and danced in their own age sectin two of the following: Modern Expressive solo, Contemporary, Modern Expressive ImprovisationCompetitors in each championship are to perform a Modern Exp. and a Contemporary routine.

    Time Limits for ALL Championships up to 3.5mins. No routines to be repeated for Championship events.

    CONDITIONS OF ENTRY:

    Winners of previous Scholarships are ineligible to enter the same section. However if a competitor has won a loweScholarship, they may enter in the next age scholarship when of eligible age.

    Prize money to be used for further tuition at an Orange Dance School. Competitors will perform in the scheduled allocated time for identification to the adjudicator.

    Time limit appropriate to own age section.

    BETTY KEIRNAN MEMORIAL BALLET SCHOLARSHIP

    122 Betty Keirnan Memorial Ballet Scholarship 13yrs & over ($2,000)Co-Sponsored by Newcrest Minings Cadia Valley Operations and City of Orange Eisteddfod Soc Inc

    Major Prize: $2,000 for winner of Scholarship Open to competitors entered in 13yrs & over sections

    CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

    Previous winners of the Betty Keirnan Memorial Ballet Scholarship are ineligible to enter.

    The adjudicator will conduct a closed class on the stage of the Orange Civic Theatre. Plain coloured leotard andballet tights, pointe and flat shoes will be required. (Short sheer ballet skirts are permissible).

    Finalists will be chosen from this class to compete in the Scholarship Dance-off. Competitors are to perform (a) oclassical and (b) a choice of either a Demi-Character or a Modern Expressive routines may be repeated.

    Competitors must have entered and performed in their Ballet Championship.

    The adjudicator may withhold the prize money if he/she feels the standard is not high enough. Time limit up to 4mins for each routine.

    This award is to further competitors study at a major dance studio.

    Winner of the Ballet Scholarship must be available to dance at the Grand Concert if required.

    ORANGE ROTARY JAZZ SCHOLARSHIP123 Orange Rotary Jazz Scholarship - 13yrs & over ($600)

    Major Prize: $600 for winner of Scholarship - Open to competitors entered in 13yrs & over sections

    CONDITIONS OF ENTRY

    Previous winners of the Jazz Scholarship are ineligible to enter.

    Teachers please note that curtains will be used only at the beginning of routines if time permits & at the discretion Committee. Curtains WILL NOT be used at the end of routines.

    Group Sections will be combined if insufficient entries. Competitors will not be allowed in the Theatre during the Groups Weekend. All electrical equipment to be used in the theatre during the Eisteddfod MUST be tagged by a certified electrician. Strictly no use of Videos or still photography in the theatre. This is a breach of copyright. JOHN REID SMITH will be in attendance for still photography in the downstairs foyer. KEA VIDEO PRODUCTIONS will be in attendance for video performances at the Civic Theatre. Ruling for Vocals on tapes/CDs does not apply to Groups Sections List of Competitors Names in each Group must be handed to Backstage Committee prior to Groups taking stage

    (WH&S rulings). Students & teachers must also abide by the City of Orange Eisteddfods Code of Conduct.
