Theme Notes Series 259: Seasons Page 1 of 11 Seasons This week in Play School we explore the seasons! Summer, Autumn, Winter and Spring each have a dedicated day. The essence and characteristics of each season are explored through songs, games, stories and craft activities so children will be able to relate to the unique feel of the different seasons. Each day the Play School thermometer is checked and the temperature noted. There is also a tree shown throughout the week, which changes each day to show seasonal differences. On Friday we celebrate the cycle of the seasons to conclude the series.

IDEAS FOR LATER

Use a variety of different shaped plastic

containers and balloons to make play ice.

First, colour some water with food colouring

and then pour it into different containers

and freeze. Play with the ice in a water

trough or paddling pool for outside fun. A

plastic glove makes an interesting shape!

Make an ice cream picture! Cut a triangle,

cone shape from a piece of plain paper,

then place a piece of netting over the top

and rub over it with a yellow crayon to

create a waffle effect. Stick the cone onto

a coloured piece of cardboard and glue

on cotton-balls for the ice cream. Use paint

to colour the cotton balls to show different

flavours.

Make melon balls! Use a melon baller to

make balls from a variety of different

melons and serve as a cool snack or

dessert.

IDEAS FOR LATER

Spring time is a great time to visit the zoo or

a farm. Many animals have their young at

this time of the year.

Take an easel and some paint out in the

garden to create some art. Be inspired by

the colours of spring.

Pick some flowers suitable for pressing.

Pansies work well. Place between some

greaseproof paper and put between the

pages of a thick book. This is a lesson in

patience as you wait for the results.

Spring is a good time to go on a bushwalk.
