Everyone knows the United States Postal Service (USPS) Motto.

Guests attending the June OFFSC meeting, which was hosted by the Safety Staff of the USPS OK District, were able to experience the weather just as the carriers that travel to their homes do each day.

Those in attendance were greeted with an umbrella and the promise of

clearing weather.

The presentation for the June meeting was an on-

June meeting coordinates well with Oklahoma weather

site demonstration of training techniques

developed and utilized by the Driving Safety Instructors (DSI) for new drivers of USPS Right-Hand Drive (RHD) vehicles.

The presentation was conducted on the Driving Range located at the Oklahoma City Processing and Distribution Plant.

David Gaile, DSI, explained to the group each of the driving exercises as Brad Kiespert, DSI, actually performed the exercise in a USPS RHD vehicle.

David gave the background and reasoning for each exercise explaining that many of the training activities were developed in response to actual accidents that have occurred.

Several of the exercises are geared to the unique design of the RHD vehicles.

Visibility is of the utmost concern when operating one of these vehicles and the safe operation involves the use of all seven mirrors and having them properly adjusted.

Brad demonstrated the need for mirror usage, the constant vigilance by the driver of his surroundings, and the tragic consequences when those safe practices are not followed.

At the conclusion of the demonstration, each guest was presented a “Delivering Safety” pin by Mr. Gaile.

The 2012 OFFSHC survey responses have been collected and tallied.

We received 19 completed surveys with a variety of write in comments.

Thanks for your input!
