1 1 Dear Players, Coaches, Managers and dedicated parents, Welcome to Aston, Pennsylvania for our 8th International Summer Challenge. After 7 years of building our program we strongly feel this year is very special and here’s why; For the very first year we’ve had numerous scouts watch high level hockey and hand pick the top players from each team to join our program. Having done that, EXPECT to see some very strong all American teams for the very first time. Also, with the addition of our Alberta event and the success we had in early May, we are now seeing many strong Canadian players here in Aston. Team Canada (95’s through 03’s) are EXTREMELY strong and favorites to win most levels. We’ve added a few new features this year including our LIVE game scores on big screen plasma T.V. Our good friend from Burnaby, BC was the one who came up with this idea to let the technology do the work! This 8th event is a 10-day event split into two weeks. First the 93’s – 98’s will battle for the cup fol- lowed by the 99’s – 03’s. 109 teams have registered, as well as nearly 2000 players will compete and represent 10 countries! They are U.S., Canada, Australia, Czech Republic, Denmark, Ukraine, Slovakia, Finland, Sweden and Russia. Again, this year we have numerous sponsors to thank and more specially Fast Hockey, Combat Sports and Tapout. Fast Hockey shares a special relationship with us and they are always ready to help. Tapout is here and will outfit all of our players with a brand new mouth guard. Combat Sports has donated 60 sticks as well as a fleece for our coaches and are also donating caps for our 1st and 2nd place teams. This tournament wouldn’t be a success without OUR PAST PLAYERS who constantly spread the word with others. We can’t thank you enough! We would also like to thank Ice Works for their sen- sational service and kindness, which we are now seeing for our 6th year here in Aston. In sum, I would personally like to thank our hard working staff Michelle Horn, Shaun Lund and An- gela Fortier as well as all of our coaches and team managers. “Let the STRONGEST competition we’ve ever seen begin and great memories last” Best of Luck to all teams! For the fi rst time, OneHockey took its show north of the border, hosting it’s fi rst ever Ca-nadian event in Spruce Grove and Edmonton, Alta., May 6 to 8. Since 2004, OneHockey has been putting on fi rst-class summer hockey tournaments across North America, and for the organization’s president, Sebastien Fortier, the company’s most recent event was a roaring suc-cess.

“We were really nervous about our fi rst event in Canada. We know that Canadians know their hockey and have high expectations, and I think we exceeded all their expectations,” Fortier said.

“I’ve never seen so many positive comments from a tournament—ever. We’ve not had one negative email since the tournament was over.”

With 54 teams competing at the event, and hundreds of players taking over four Edmon-ton-area arenas, the tournament was a massive undertaking for Fortier and his staff.

“It was the fi rst time we ran a tournament out of more than one building. We brought a couple of our staff. We brought three of our own staff, but everyone else was completely new,” Fortier explained.

“The people that did work for us, they saved us. They did a great job and worked many more hours than they were supposed to, and they were able to suck it up and put together a crazy

event.”After pulling off their fi rst tournament in

Canada, Fortier is excited and looking forward to a return to the Great White North, with an-other Alberta tournament already in the worksfor next season.

“We’re planning to come back, next year. The City of Spruce Grove, especially Mayor StuartHouston and [City Manager] Doug Lagore re-ally supported us since day one. They saw ourvision about this, and they went over a lot ofbumps to get us there,” Fortier said.

“They really appreciated a good hockey tournament. We can’t even keep up with the comments and the emails right now. It’s justincredible.”

After their great success in Alberta, OneHockey’s next event will be in the Philadelphia area, June 30 to July 3, for players born between 1993 and 1998 birth-years, with another event sched-uled July 7 to 10 for players born be-tween 1999 and 2003. Just like in Spruce Grove and Edmonton, some of the best minor hockey players from across North America and the rest of the world will converge in Pennsylvania.

“Both weeks are our biggest event. This is our eighth summer doing this event. There are people that have been coming to this tournament since 2004, and it’s a really high-level event,” For-tier explained.

While whole teams can register to compete, individual players can also sign up to play to secure their spot at OneHockey’s premier event.

“Players can join us as individuals by applying on the website, and we’re going to put them on one of our own teams that are called, ‘All-American teams.’ Those teams are incredibly strong.”

To register for the Philadelphia event, or for more information on One-Hockey and other ways you can get involved, visit their site at www.one-hockey.com, or fi nd them on Facebook for all the latest.

The Alberta fairytale storyBack in September 2007, OneHockey contacted a gentlemen from Alberta named Wayne Gatza. We can’t remember exactly how we got in touch with him, but we remember the story.

The story of OneHockey and Alberta begin in 2007 when Sebastien Fortier began calling and emailing Wayne Gatza pretty much every other day.

“Wayne, you have to trust me and come to our tournament in Aston, PA, I swear your team will play against some very strong competition and you will return each year and bring more teams”, those were Sebastien’s words.

It took nearly one-hundred emails and eighty phone calls to finally convince Wayne to bring not only one but two teams from Alberta! His 92’s ended up winning in 3rd overtime against team Pennsylvania and his 93’s were beaten in the semis.

Just after his first two games Wayne was looking for Sebastien to tell him the following.

“Sebastien, you run a heck of a tournament and my boys are having a blast and playing some great hockey. You can count us in for next year, we will be back with our 93’s as well”.

Those words meant the world to Sebastien as he wasn’t really sure how our teams would compete against the strong Alberta teams. They had done very well and each game that Alberta played was very close and within a few goals. Today, Wayne and Sebastien have become very good friends and Wayne ended up win-ning the tournament in 2008, 2009 and 2010, which had never been done before.

Thanks for all you did Wayne and to all the Alberta players, coaches and parents

Thank you for putting your trust in us!

Sebastien Fortier

2011 Tournament rules

1. The OneHockey tournament is sanctioned by USA Hock-ey and therefore ALL USA Hockey rules apply. You can go to www.usahockey.com to obtain a copy of these rules.

2. Tournament games: three, fifteen (15) minute stop time periods, with a one-minute break between periods. One (1) thirty (30) second time out per team, per game. The ice will be resurfaced at the end of each game. In the event of a six, (6) goal difference in the third period or an eight, (8) goal difference in the second period the clock will be run-ning. Should be goal differential return to five, (5), regular play will resume. Game will be declared complete at any time a team obtains a ten, (10) goal advantage.

3. All teams should be ready to start games 20 minutes early.

4. Home and visitor team is indicated on the schedule. OneHockey teams only have one set of jerseys, if jersey colors are similar, please send someone to the office in order to use our spare set. The referees will not give the home team the advantage of the last change. Only in the quarter, semi, and finals will this be the case.

5. All teams are required to carry two goalies. In the event of a team having only one goalie for a team, each team will be allowed to have a back-up goalie on their bench. This goalie can be from another team in the division just below them or from the same division, however the back-up goalie is not allowed to play unless an injury occurs to the rostered goalie.

6. All teams will be allowed a (3) minute warm up prior to games.

7. Penalties will be; Minor – 2 Minutes, Major – 5, Minutes, Misconduct – 10 Minutes, all penalties are stop time.

8. Under USA Hockey’s Zero Tolerance policy, any coach or player that receives a penalty for fighting will be subject to dismissal from the remainder of the tournament as de-cided by the tournament staff and USA Hockey represen-tative. Should the infraction be determined to be detrimen-tal to the game of hockey, it is possible that the team could be disqualified from the remainder of the tournament.

9. Should a player/coach receive a game misconduct, that player/coach must sit out the next game on their schedule and this must be noted on the game sheet prior to the be-ginning of the game. Should it come to the attention of the tournament staff that a player/coach did not sit their game suspension, the team will forfeit that game and the oppo-nent will be awarded the win with a 1-0 score.

10. Suspensions will be set according to USA hockey rules.

11. The tournament, its proprietor, and the arena are not to be held responsible for any loss due to uncontrollable events including war, contagious deceases, catastrophic events or other major reasons.

12. All teams should arrive at least 1 hour prior to their first game.

13. All players should stand on their blue line after each game for the announcement of the 3 stars of the game and should shake hands following the awards.

14. All teams are only allowed to register and dress 20 players (18 skaters and 2 goalies). After the start of the first game your roster is frozen and no other players may be added.

15. No protests will be permitted.

16. Automatic icing will apply at all games.

17. Tag-up offsides will apply at all games. When players are in the offensive zone and the puck is dumped, the play-ers can leave the zone without touching the puck and play remains live.

18. Over time will occur in Quarter Final, Semi-Final and Final games only. The procedure will be four on four for the first five minutes, followed by a three on three for five more minutes. Then a shootout (3 players per team) until a win-ner is determined.

19. The tournament is USA Hockey sanctioned and their ruling will apply as far as protective equipment. Mouth-guards are required for ALL players, including goalies. Visit www.usahockey.com for more details.

20. Point System - Two points for a win, one point for a tie, no point for a loss.

21. Tie Breaker System - Most points, most wins, head to head, goal differential, and finally least amount of penalty minutes.

22. Divisions 1992 to 1999 will play body checking

23. The tournament staff and USA Hockey representative will have the final decision in any situation that may arise.

A Special welcome to

Joseph Velano, one of the North America best 2000 born player

If you get the chance to watch Team Ice Rebels 2000 from Montreal, Quebec while you’re here you will get to see some incredible players, especially Joseph Ve-lano, a young protégé, and from what we hear he is really a player to keep an eye on and is fun to watch.

Not having seen him OneHockey compares him to Rocco Grimaldi who participated at our very first tour-nament in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Rocco is now playing with the U18 Team USA National team and just won both the World Junior U17 and U18 title! He is now playing up with the U18 boys. Expect to see Rocco go in the first round of the 2011 NHL draft.

we are extremely proud of our players.
