    participate in the Student Athlete Scholastic Success

    Program, receiving mentorship and advisement rom

    coaches, administration, and aculty as they strive to reach

    their academic goals The program has resulted in stellar

    outcomes:

    Fiteen Phoenix College student athletes earned National

    Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic All-

    American honors in 2009-2010 with a GPA o 36 or higher

    Eight out o the 15 achieved a GPA o 38 or greater, earning

    the designation o Distinguished Academic All-American

    Six PC athletic teams were designated NJCAA Academic

    All-American Teams, with a team grade point average o at

    least 30

    The PC Womens Basketball team ranked third on the

    Womens Basketball Coaches Association Honor Roll with

    a 35 team GPA

    During 2009-2010, 70 Phoenix College student athletes

    signed on to continue their athletic and academic pursuits

    at the university level

    Generations o outstanding students begin the pursuit

    o their educational, proessional, and personal goals

    at Phoenix College PCs uniquely talented aculty,

    administrators, and sta share a commitment to the

    Kevin Kimball

    Kevin Kimball joins the

    Phoenix College coaching

    sta as the new head

    baseball coach He has

    worked most recently

    as the assistant head

    baseball coach and strength and conditioning

    coordinator at Gateway Community College

    Coach Kimball also has coaching experience

    at the NCAA Division I and II levels and has

    coached in the prestigious Cape Cod league

    Kimball brings extensive high school coaching

    experience with him as well

    Higher education is o great importance

    to Coach Kimball He holds an Associates

    Degree rom the College o Southern Idaho,

    a Bachelors Degree in Kinesiology rom

    the University o Northern Colorado and a

    Masters Degree in Sport Management rom

    Ryan Henderson

    Ryan Henderson will

    begin his frst season

    as the Bears assistant

    baseball coach and

    recruiting coordinator

    In 2005, he served

    as pitching coach or Glendale Community

    College

    Ryan played collegiately at the University

    o Southern Caliornia (1991-92) and was

    a member o the Trojans 1991 Pac-10

    Conerence Championship team As a starting

    pitcher, he received the Pac-10 pitcher o the

    week award or wins against Pepperdine and

    University o Arizona USC ranked # 1 in the

    country in 1991 and missed advancing to theCollege World Series with a loss to eventual

    national champion Creighton That summer he

    pitched or Orleans in the Cape Cod League

    and went on to become the closer or the USC

    Trojans in 1992

    Henderson was selected by the Los Angeles

    Dodgers in the 9th round o the 1992 drat

    and went on to pitch ten years in the minorleagues with the Colorado Rockies, New York

    Mets, Milwaukee Brewers, and Florida Marlins

    reaching AAA with all fve organizations While

    in the Dodger organization he was selected to

    the 1993 Florida State League All Star Team

    and 1994 Caliornia League All Star Team

    In 1995 he fnished second in the Dodger

    organization in wins with 11, while also being

    selected as Dodger pitcher o the month in

    AugustDuring his career, Henderson apprenticed

    under pitching instructors, Claude Osteen,

    Burt Hooton, Luis Tiant, Dave Wallace, Jim

    Wright, Rick Waits, and was very ortunate to

    work with Red Adams, Sandy Kouax and the

    late Don Drysdale

    Henderson currently is pursuing a bachelors

    degree in Applied Biological Sciences rom

    Arizona State University and will graduatein the spring o 2011 This past summer he

    served as head coach in Arizona Summer

    Lisa Ruiz-Gonzales, MS,

    ATC, AT/L is Phoenix

    Colleges Head Athletic

    Trainer and an Assistant

    Athletic Director. This is her fth year as Head

    Athletic Trainer or Phoenix College. She received

    her B.S. in Exercise Science rom Arizona State

    University and her M.S. in Sports Health Care rom

    Arizona School o Health Sciences. She has been

    a part o the Phoenix College amily and athletic

    training sta since 1999, initially starting as an

    athletic training student while attending ASU and

    continuing through as a graduate assistant while

    completing her masters degree at ASHS. Lisa is a

    certifed member o the National Athletic Trainers

    Association (NATA), Rocky Mountain Athletic

    Trainers Association, Arizona Community Colleges

    Athletic Trainers Association (ACCATA), and is

    currently licensed by the Arizona Board o AthleticTrainers. Lisa and her husband Emmett currently
