THE HISTORY OF FN

just an hours drive from the NATO Headquarters in Brussels. The Herstal

Group is known around the globe for the quality and performance

of its products. Under the brand names FN Herstal, Browning and

Winchester, the Herstal Group designs, manufactures and distributes

a full range of firearms and accessories for defense, law enforcement,

hunting and competition.

LEADER IN SMALL ARMS

In the United States, FN is represented by two entities: FNH USA, which

is responsible for sales, marketing and business development, and FN

Manufacturing, LLC (FNM), which handles manufacturing. Together,the companies have a workforce of approximately 700 employees.

FNH USA was started in 1998 in McLean, Virginia and is split into

two separate divisions: Law Enforcement/Commercial and Military

Operations. The role of FNH USA is to grow the FN market share in the

law enforcement and commercial sectors while coordinating business

development with all government agencies. FNM, located in

Columbia, South Carolina, is the U.S. manufacturing arm of FN.

Design, research and development, and manufacturing activities are

conducted under the authority of the mother company, FN Herstal S.A.

Some of the firearms that FNM produces for the U.S. Government are

M16 rifles, M249 Light Machine Guns and M240 Medium Machine Guns.

GETTING TO KNOW FNH USA

BACKGROUNDIn 1889, the gunsmiths in Belgiums Liege Region formed an association

to fill an order from the Belgian military for 150,000 Mauser rifles built

under license. This marked the formation of Fabrique Nationale (FN)

and was the beginning of FNs long-standing history.

In 1897, the FN tradition expanded with the partnership of John Moses

Browning, one of the most innovative firearms designers in history.

Together, FN and Browning produced several of the most prestigious

firearms in the world, including the 9mm Hi Power pistol, numerous

Browning machine guns, the Auto-5 autoloading shotgun, the .22 semi-

automatic rifle and the B25 Superposed shotgunarms that wereMade in Belgium and are still legendary.

FN products received the ultimate acknowledgment in 1957 and 1982,

respectively, when NATO adopted our 7.62mm and 5.56mm caliber

ammunition designs as its military standard. The success of the M249,

M240, .50 caliber machine guns, and the fielding of the FAL (Light As-

sault Rifle) by more than 90 countries all demonstrate FNs commitment to

excellence.

FNs full name is Fabrique Nationale Herstal (FNH). Herstal was added

to FN when it became a subsidiary of the Belgian-based company, the

Herstal Group. FNH and the Herstal Group are based out of Liege, Belgium,

directly related to its modularity (capable of 13 different configurations)

and its development process. The FN SCAR Family of Weapons was

developed hand-in-hand with Special Operations Forces operators and

FN engineers. To this day it is the most heavily tested assault rifle in

history having withstood more than two million rounds, thus proving its

superiority. The MK 16, MK 17 and MK 13 are truly an operator envisioned,

tested and chosen firearm system. In July of 2010, the SCAR system

was approved for full-rate production and is currently fielded in

overseas deployment by units of the U.S. military. This was closely

followed by the full-rate production approval for the MK 20 SSR,

a spiral development variant off the MK 17.

The FN SCAR 16S and 17S are the semi-auto, civilian-legal versions of

the MK 16 and MK 17, and are ideal for 3-gun practical competition.

Soon, the MK 20 sniper support rifle (SSR), the last born of the

SCAR family, will be finalized at FNM. FNM also produces the FNP

and FNX line of handguns, as well as the SPR A3G and TSR XP

bolt-action rifle lines for FNH USA.

FNM is one of only three small arms manufacturers designated as the

industrial base for small arms production by the U.S. government. Our

reputation for quality and reliability has been clearly demonstrated by

the adoption of numerous FN weapon systems by the U.S. military and

law enforcement organizations.

NEW AND FUTURE FIREARMS

Among FNs latest designs, and potentially one of its most influential

family of firearms, are the 5.56mm MK 16 carbine, 7.62mm MK 17 assault

rifle, 7.62mm MK 20 SSR (Sniper Support Rifle) and 40mm MK 13 EGLM

(Enhanced Grenade Launcher Module), all developed under the Special

Operations Forces Combat Assault Rifle (SCAR) program.

In January 2004 the U.S. Special Operations Command (USSOCOM)

began soliciting for a new assault rifle, the SCAR. In November of the

same year, in a full and open competition, the FN model of the SCAR was

chosen from among a dozen different designs submitted by nine vendors

from around the world. The enhanced capability of the FN SCAR is

5.7x28mm cartridge making it ideal for personal protection and target

FNP-45 Tactical offers 45 ACP performance and a host of unique

features no other handgun can match. The checkered polymer frame

Fast, light and compact, the FN TSR XP (Tactical Sport Rifle Extreme

The easy-to-shoot FN PS90 represents a flexible, compact bullpup

carbine design thats ideal for personal security and sporting use.

Chambered in the high-velocity 5.7x28mm cartridge, the FN PS90

utilizes a closed-bolt blowback operation and fixed barrel for greater

accuracy and reliability. The FN PS90s 16" cold hammer-forged,

chrome-lined MIL-SPEC barrel is equipped with an integrated

muzzle brake to reduce recoil. Models with 10- or 30-round

polymer detachable magazines are available. The FN PS90s safety

switch is located inside the trigger guard for easy access. Dual

magazine latches, cocking handles and an innovative synthetic

BULLPUP PERFORMANCE.

Chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO (223 Rem.), the FN FS2000 is a semi-

auto only variant of the proven FN FS2000 selective-fire bullpup

carbines. It is gas-operated, using a rotating bolt lock-up for reliability

and greater accuracy, and has a 17.44" cold hammered-forged

chrome-lined, MIL-SPEC barrel and muzzle brake. Fired cases are

ejected through a forward port away from the operator. The FNFS2000 Tactical offers an integrated MIL-STD 1913 top-mounting

rail and emergency backup folding sights and is available with

10- or 30-round Detachable Box Magazines (DBM). The polymer

stock is fully-ambidextrous. An accessory fore-end is also available

that provides three MIL-STD 1913 forward mounting rails.

FNH USA has a long tradition of offering corporate support to many

dedicated organizations and worthy causes related to the shooting

sports. Along with numerous other corporate and organizational partners,

FNH USA is proud to do its part to help build the shooting sports

and to give back to those who have given the most in support of freedom.

In 2010, at the non-profit FNH USA-Leupold Long-Range Precision

Competition, participants and supporters raised some $3,500 for

the National Tactical Officers Association and Special Forces

Association to help support tactical officers and soldiers who have been

wounded in action, and to help their families deal wi th the costs of their

medical care and rehabilitation.

FNH USA proudly sponsors the NRA Womens Wilderness Escape at the

NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. This nine-day retreat

allows participants to experience a variety of shooting sports activities

including rifle, pistol, clay target, black powder and archery. Other

courses include map reading, camping, game calling and Native American

history, making the retreat unique for every attendee.

FNH USA was pleased to create the NRA Pistol Instructors

Discount Purchase Program, offering instructors reduced prices

on selected FN handguns that they can use to teach firearms safety

and personal security courses. In addition, FNH USA donated 10% of

the sales revenue from this program back to the NRA to help furthersupport its instructional programs.
