Grounds or Score CancellationTest Security Issues As the College Board vendor, Educational TestingService ensures that the SAT is airly administered on test day. TheCollege Board and ETS strive to report scores that accurately refectthe per ormance o every test-taker. Accordingly, ETS standards andprocedures or administering tests have two primary goals: give alltest-takers equivalent opportunities to demonstrate their abilities, andprevent any test-taker rom gaining an un air advantage over others. Topromote these objectives, ETS reserves the right to dismiss test-takersand/or cancel any test scores when, in its judgment, a testing irregularityoccurs, there is an apparent discrepancy in a test-takers identi cation, atest-taker engages in misconduct or plagiarism, or the score is invalid oranother reason. Review o scores by ETS is con dential. When, or any othese reasons, ETS cancels a test score that has already been reported,it noti es score recipients that the score was canceled, but it does notdisclose the reason or cancellation unless authorized to do so by thetest-taker, and in certain cases that a ect a group o test-takers.Testing irregularities Testing irregularities re er to problems with theadministration o a test. When they occur, they may a ect an individualor groups o test-takers. Such problems include, without limitation, administrative errors (e.g., improper timing, improper seating, de ectivematerials and de ective equipment), improper access to test content, andother disruptions o test administrations (e.g., natural disasters and otheremergencies). When testing irregularities occur, ETS may decline to scorethe test, or cancel the test score. When it is appropriate to do so, ETSgives a ected test-takers the opportunity to take the test again as soonas possible, without charge.Identifcation Discrepancies When, in ETSs or test center personnels judgment, there is a discrepancy in a test-takers identi cation, the test-taker may be dismissed rom the test center; in addition, ETS may declineto score the test, or cancel the test score.Misconduct When ETS or test center personnel nd that there ismisconduct in connection with a test, the test-taker may be dismissed

rom the test center, or ETS may decline to score the test or maycancel the test score. Repeated minor in ractions may result in scorecancellation. Misconduct includes, but is not limited to: taking any test questions or essay topics rom the testing room,

Test Security and FairnessThe SAT Programs policies or testing are designed to give every studentan equal opportunity to demonstrate college readiness and to preventanyone rom gaining an un air advantage. Here are some important thingsthat you should know when you take an SAT Program test: Test materials are secured be ore, during and a ter the test so that no

go back to a previous section while taking the test. No one should see the questions except you while you are taking the

test. Sharing o test questions with others may enable them to attaininappropriately higher scores, thus decreasing the value o your score.

Cell phone use is prohibited; students are strongly encouraged notto bring cell phones to the test center. I your phone makes noise,or you are seen using it at any time (including breaks), you may bedismissed immediately, your scores will likely be canceled and thedevice may be con scated. This policy also applies to any other

prohibited digital and/or electronic device such as a BlackBerry, pager,PDA, camera or other photographic equipment, or a separate timer oany kind. We strongly advise you not to bring them.

addition, students who took the SAT in Cali ornia in December 2009 canreview the test questions under secure conditions at the ETS WesternField O ce in Concord, Calif., by calling 925-808-2000.Predicting College Grades The primary purpose o the SAT is to providein ormation to college admissions sta that will help them to evaluatea students application. The College Board recommends that score

recipients use scores in combination with other in ormation such asgrades and courses taken in determining admission. Results o researchconducted using data rom 110 colleges show that SAT test scores, incombination with a students high school grade point average, predictcollege reshman GPA more accurately than either SAT scores or highschool GPA alone.

For all college reshmen in the study (N=151,316), the predictivevalidity o an optimally weighted combination o SAT scores and high

school GPA is 0.62. The correlation between the critical reading sectionscore and reshman GPA is 0.50, between the math score and reshmanGPA is 0.47, and between the writing section score and reshman GPA is0.51. For all three sections (critical reading, mathematics, and writing),the correlation with reshman GPA is 0.53, while the correlation betweenhigh school GPA and reshman GPA is 0.54. The combination o scoresand high school GPA raised the correlation 0.09 over scores alone, and 0.08 over high school GPA. For males, the correlation between the

combination o scores and high school GPA with reshman GPA is 0.59,an increase o 0.09 over scores alone and 0.07 over high school GPA.For emales, the correlation between the combination o scores and highschool GPA with reshman GPA is 0.65, an increase o 0.07 over scoresalone and 0.11 over high school GPA.

All correlations are adjusted or restriction o range so that the ullrange o scores and high school GPA are the same as or the nationalcollege-bound seniors cohort.Procedures to Ensure Fairness and Equity All new SAT Program test

questions and complete new editions o the tests are reviewed by manyindividuals, including committees whose members are drawn rom allregions o the United States. These reviews help identi y and eliminateany wording or content that might be o ensive or inappropriate orparticular groups o students, such as racial or ethnic groups or menor women. Assessment sta ensure that the test as a whole includesre erences to men and women and individuals rom varied racial, ethnicand cultural backgrounds. Statistical procedures are used to identi y

questions that are harder or a group o students to answer correctly thanwould be expected rom their per ormance on the test.Relationship o SAT Scores to Family Income The correlation o SATscores and student-reported amily income or two recent years was

ound to be about 0.30, which is consistent with general research ndingson the relationship o educational achievement and amily incomelevel. Although average SAT scores tend to be higher or students romhigher-income amilies, students rom every income level, as reported on

the SAT Questionnaire, obtain the ull range o SAT scores. Furthermore, many students rom low-income amilies do well on the test. For seniorswho graduated in 2000, one-third o the students with reported amilyincome at or below $30,000 obtained scores above the national average.
