Presidents Challenge

I have thought more about some of the questions askedabout my challenge. I will leave it up to you tointerpret the rules as to what a strip is, that is part of thefun to see what different things people come up withfollowing the same set of rules. This will not be a big

stress type of challenge, there will not be a first, secondand third prize--it is just for fun. If there is a prize thatis just extra fun. We will have stickers or signs on the quilts at the quilt show to point out thatyou where part of the presidents challenge and I think the brochure will have an explanationof what the challenge was.

Have fun,Debbie Pierschbacher

We will try to havestickers with new member info to hand out at themeetings. Becky will still try to fit people into smallgroups if they want to be part of that. The December garage sale- we will use paper and pins instead of stickers so the prices don’t fall off. Randi will givequarter updates on the budget at the meetings. For show and tell we will award the members with a card-trying to get a good poker hand. Linda will keep

record of these. Deb will call HTLC to see if we canuse the church on July 22 to announce quilt winners.Retreat plans are underway. 2010 will have some bigname speakers but this takes money- also when classesare filled it gets costly for the guild.

Sharon Meisenheimer gave our October presentationon “Rules of Life Learned”. She concluded her talk with quilt care and storage tips. These are good thingsto remember for displaying and storing your quilts!

If they are on display:1. Keep them out of direct sun. Fabrics fade even

with artificial light.2. Turn them at least once a year.3. Be careful how they are hung. Use a sleeve or

quilt hanger so weight is evenly distributed.4. It they are folded, refold them so the creases

are not permanent.

If they are stored:1. Keep them in a new washed pillow case. Old

pillow cases have oils in them. Do not use plastic bags. Keep them away from directcontact with wood.

2. Refold these quilts also. Do not dry cleanthem. If you have the urge to wash an oldquilt, lie down until the urge passes.

Fall is a perfect time to visit The Harvest Table

quilt shop in rural Norwalk, Iowa! The shop is located4 miles south of the Des Moines airport on highwayR57. Donnis Blake begins her 12th year as shop owner with fresh ideas, new patterns and a change in shophours.

This year The Harvest Table is experimenting with theshop being open by appointment only. These on call hours can be arranged with Donnis any day of theweek, just give her a call, (515) 981-4307.

Classes continue each week on Wednesday & Thursdayevenings. There are classes for all levels of quilters; beginners learn sashing and border techniques and howto bind and finish their quilts. There are block of the

month classes for intermediate and advanced quilters. Each month (currently on the 4 th Thursday) there is aclass where you make a small seasonal project. Classesare small, maximum 8 people in each, and there arenew ones starting all the time.

Donnis Blake likes the country style. Her shop is filledwith traditional fabric as well as lots of bold and brightfabrics. She carries books and patterns by Buggy Barn,Bare Root and many hand embroidery patterns. Thereare lots of hard to find Bare Root embroidery patternsat The Harvest Table. Donnis has her own original

 patterns for sale too.

Many of you will recognize The Harvest Table shopfrom vending at our annual quilt show. The HarvestTable participates in several quilt shows (they had a booth at the AQS Show) and the Southern Iowa ShopHop each year.

Donnis grew up quilting along-side her mother. Sheenjoyed working on many projects with her Mom over the years. Now she considers hand quilting her

“therapy”. It's not just hand-quilting at The HarvestTable. They have a long-arm for rent, $16/hour, after aclass to learn how to use the machine.

Enjoy Donnis's husband's hobby of growing and sellingvegetables when you shop at The Harvest Table.Purchase pumpkins, gourds, squash, corn stalks andstraw---it's all self-serve.

Give Donnis a call to schedule your visit toThe Harvest Table, (515) 981-4307.
