Forever Young Foundation Annual Report 2007

“I shall pass through this world but once. Any good therefore that I can do or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now. Let me not defer or neglect it,

for I shall not pass this way again.”

Letter from the Co-Chairs

A Native American boy was talking with his grandfather.

“What do you think about the world’s situation?” he asked.

The grandfather replied, “I feel like wolves are fighting in my heart. One is full of anger and hatred; the other is full of love, forgiveness, and peace.”

“Which one will win?” asked the boy.

To which the grandfather replied, “The one I feed.” (Origin Unknown)

We continue to be blessed by the significant work the Forever Young Foundation family of charities provide throughout the country. Their communities are enriched by their outstanding service, dedication, and support of so many youth. These charities continue to maintain a strong commitment to their charitable purpose. Our desire is to promote “love, forgiveness and peace”, as well as pass on hope and resources to our youth as the need to create opportunities continues to intensify. In 2007, we had many life changing experiences in our work at Forever Young Foundation. It is often said that when you give, you receive far more in return. We experienced the full impact of those words as Barb and I assembled our Forever Young staff, Board of Directors and many of our Forever Young friends to make the journey from the states to Ghana, West Africa, witnessing first- hand the remarkable work being done. Under the direction of our friend and fellow board member, Bob Gay, we have completed the expansion of the Golden Sunbeam School and finalized plans to build our first Forever Young International School. We marveled at the people and country that will forever touch our hearts. We understand Forever Young Foundation’s successes in blessing our youth is a direct result of your support and partnership. We invite you to continue this journey with us as we move into this new year of possibilities.

Steve & Barb Young

Forever Young Zones

Technology Forever Young Zones are interactive education rooms created to provide children in underserved communities with access to state-of-the-art technology as well as web-based education and training. These are attractive facilities that act as a safe haven for children to gather after school rather than on the streets. Forever Young Zones not only provide immediate help to underprivileged children, resulting in better grades and increased learning opportunities, but afford them the skills that will prepare them for the future. Many of the Zones are now in the process of being updated with multimedia capabilities which engage older teens in activities such as creating websites, recording music, and making movies. Hospital Forever Young Zones are recreational therapy rooms created to provide tools for exercising the imagination of seriously ill children who face emotional and physical challenges. Forever Young Foundation has completed two of these Zones, one at Primary Children’s Medical Center and the other at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital. It has been found that child life specialists and psychosocial professionals are more effective in helping children cope in treatment rooms if they have related to them first in these Forever Young Zone playrooms. These Zones provide a sanctuary or safe place where staff can build supportive relationships with the children and teens to help them in their recovery process. foreveryoung.org/zones
