Year 11 Aquac Pracce students recently
aended a day at the Innisfail pool where
they learnt essenal snorkelling skills as
part of their current studies. Students
were able to put the theory they have
learnt into pracce. Students are
compleng a unit of snorkelling which
teaches them about equipment, pressure,
buoyancy, shallow water blackout with
important planning consideraons and
basic first aid.

English tutoring is off to a roaring start in Term 1. Available on Wednesday
a-ernoons, all ISC students are welcome in the Library from 3-4pm to gain extra
help with class work and assessment from our incredible English and Humanies
team.
Last week the Library was filled with students demonstrang an exceponal level of
work ethic and iniave. There are always many English teachers available at this
free tutoring session and it is an excellent way to ensure the success of students as
they can acquire one-on-one assistance with any difficult or unfamiliar concepts.
Please take advantage of this wonderful opportunity.

Innisfail State College is tremendously proud of our senior Indigenous
students, 23 of whom have been awarded QATSIF scholarships. Some of
these students are pictured right.
A QATSIF scholarship provides support for students in the year 11 and 12
school years. At ISC, QATSIF scholarship-holders parcipate in the full range
of academic and vocaonal courses of study and the scholarship bursaries
are applied to support all aspects of college aendance, from course and
camp costs, to Maths B calculators and uniforms.
Congratulaons to all these students.

On Wednesday, 21 March, the DLC parents, staff and students celebrated Harmony Day
with a field of orange. The students had been learning about people from a range of
cultures – their lifestyles, clothing and leisure acvies - in their a-ernoon sessions and in
HASS. They had created their own person with clothing relevant to their country and, in
some cases, students enjoyed learning about the landscapes of the different countries in
the World. They also idenfied each country’s flag.
To start the celebraons, we had a mul-cultural parade where each family and staff
member brought along some food that represented different cultures for a shared lunch.
DLC students eagerly accept difference in abilies but it was a good opportunity to talk
about the world beyond their local community.
Despite the rain changing some outside plans, following lunch, each class had explored a
game from a different country – these included Bocce (Italy), Sjoolbach (Holland), Sombrero
Hat throw and an African Rhythm Sck Dance to the music ‘Obwisana’.

Innisfail State College acknowledges the Mamu People, Tradional Custodians of the country in which this College is located, and pays
respect to their Elders past and present and emerging.
On 11 February 2019 the P & C held its AGM which was well supported. Congratulaons to the elected
execuve: President - Les Moule, Vice President - Lindy Harrison, Secretary - Janet Vecchio and Treasurer -
Robert Kennington. I look forward to working with you this year. Marg Tinney has stayed on as bookkeeper.
Thank you Marg.
On behalf of the P&C I would like to congratulate the Innisfail State College Captains, Caitlin Watson and
Reuben Sharpe. Best of luck to our year twelve students - you will be the last of the OPs. At mes it will be
difficult, frame the difficulty as a challenge, not a problem. President’s quote: “I hate work, but I love what I
do”.
At the general meeng it was decided not to sell boled water from the canteen as all students were issued a
water bole which can be refilled at the chilled water troughs. ISC is proud to be a reef guardian school and
this simple gesture will help safeguard our waterways. It has been a Student Council iniave for some me now with the support of
the P&C. It is pleasing to see it come to fruion.
On behalf of the P&C I would like to welcome the new teachers to our college. Please feel free to aend our meengs.
You may ask what is it that P&Cs do? Not only do we sign off on policies, we also support the college financially. Thanks to the efforts
of our six canteen volunteers, one of whom is a parent. A variety of financial contribuons have been made this year. These include
excursions, shade covers, water coolers, fee subsidies for college and DLC students, musical and school calendars. These contribuons
totalled $30130. Our ability to make such contribuons depends on our canteen, so if you can spare the me, ring Judy at the canteen
to volunteer. It does not have to be all day or every day, even once a month would be appreciated. The P&C is also responsible for the
replacement of canteen equipment and funding is put aside for this in the budget.
Research has shown that your interest in your child’s educaon is very rewarding. It can take many forms, such as aending meengs,
creang a relaonship with your child’s teachers, helping at the canteen or even something as simple as sending your child to school
dressed in the correct uniform.
I would like to welcome Principal Michelle to the college and hope your stay with us is rewarding.
I am only a phone call away if you have any quesons or suggesons. Do not hesitate to ring me on 0401 281 262 a-er 6pm or if it is
urgent at any me.
See you at the next meeng 01/04/2019 at 7pm in the Administraon building.

P & C President’s report
Congratulaons to the 26 Innisfail State College students
who shone at the Innisfail Debutante Ball on Saturday
evening. Although the concept of making one’s debut
(when a young woman would be presented to society,
perhaps at an age when she may be seeking a suitable
husband), belongs well and truly to a bygone era, our
community embraces the debutante ball as another
wonderful way of celebrang the terrific, talented youth
in our district, and the promise they represent for a
bright and prosperous future. This was very well
delivered at the Shire Hall on the weekend, when 250
guests cheered on the 26 young women and their
partners who certainly demonstrated that our future is
in very good hands. Half of the young people involved in
the ball this year were Innisfail State College students,
pictured here with College Principal (on secondment)
Mrs MacDonald.
The Innisfail Debutante Ball is held every second year, and tradionally involves year 11 and 12 students from throughout our
district. The current organising commiee, which has been responsible for the past 10 wonderful balls, is seeking to hand over the
reins to a new keen and capable group. If you are interested in helping out with the next ball in 2021, please contact the Mother of
Good Counsel church. It certainly is very rewarding to see so many past Innisfail State High School and Innisfail State College
graduates involved in various aspects of the ball organisaon including Luke Vitali from Vital Photography, and Rachel Gill (nee
Accano) and Rochelle De Maria who provide excellent dance coaching. It would be wonderful to have more of our parents involved
in this community event.

On Tuesday, 19 March, six open boys aended the Peninsula Open Rugby Union trials at West Barlow Park. Our boys played against
the best rugby players in FNQ for these trials. What our boys lacked in experience they made up for in skill and determinaon. In one
of the greatest outcomes for our school at a Peninsula trials for rugby union, we saw five boys selected in the team to travel to
Sunnybank in May and one boy make shadow. Congratulaons to Rhyka Wickliffe-Adams, Anthony Lowden-Kearing, Robert Meeks,
Jaydan Spagnolo and Jarrod Bes for making the Peninsula team and Evandar Johnson for making shadow. The boys will also
have the fantasc opportunity to play a curtain-raiser at Suncorp Stadium against Capricornia while they are away at the State
Championships. Well done boys!

Feast of the Senses Gala Dinner
Last Friday night, the talented Hospitality staff and students of our college hosted the annual Feast of the Senses Gala Dinner, serving a
spectacular 4-course meal and drinks to 100 patrons. The quality and presentaon of the meal was of an exceponal standard. Many
hours of preparaon went into this event and the dedicated staff and students are to be congratulated. It is worthy of menon that for
most of the students it was their first experience of preparing and serving at a restaurant and they performed like professionals. Well
done Peppertree!!! Special thanks go to our wonderful supporters: Toohey Farming, Innisfail Seafoods, Broken Nose Vanilla, Brenda’s
Exoc Fruit Stall, Lilyshire Limes, Mary’s Pasta, Midway Butchers and Oone & Sons.

Cross country
Under grey skies students from our college competed in our annual cross country on Friday, 29
March. The course this year was changed due to the unsafe condions of the original track.
Congratulaons to all students who took part in this fantasc event. The overall winner on the
day was Hinchinbrook. Congratulaons to our age champions.
