    We have learned that the first NativeAmericans in New York have made manycontributions to our state! Their music,

    art, and words are still used today!

    Native Americans also passed downlegends and poetry, or oral traditions.

    They told stories during parties and

    celebrations. Native Americans also toldstories before bedtime in theirlonghouses. These legends and poemswere passed from generation to

    generation and now are even found inbooks!

    When your work is done, you will hand in your threeworksheets, your legend and poem (both on a sheet

    of loose leaf with the heading and mistake-free!),and be ready to talk about what youve learned withthe class!

    After reading the legend, completethis worksheet and print it.

    After reading the three types of poetry, fill inthis chart and print it.

    Step 2:

    Go to the online museum and tour the Native American exhibit.

    Choose three artifacts that inspire you and completethis worksheet andprint it.

    Step 3: Using what you have learned about Native American legends, write your own! Choose ONE form of Native American poetry (either a haiku, diamante, or

    cinquain) and write a poem following that pattern!
