• Air – conditioner: “Air Conditioner is one of the domestic appliances, which becomes

part of our routine daily life.”

• Three tasks of Air - Conditioner:1. Temperature Controlling2. Humidity Controlling3. Purify the air

• Forests: “Forests are formed by a community of plants, which is

predominantly structurally defined by its trees, shrubs, climbers and ground cover.”

• They mainly preserve our environment green and clean by temperature control of the air, humidity control of the air and purify the air.

• So, we can clearly say that with so much functionality, forest work as an Air conditioner.

AIMS & OBJECTIVES• Temperature Control:

– Shade– Ozone Layer– Reduces Global Warming– Thus, they control temp.

• Humidity Control:– Winter - absorb the atmospheric moisture– Summer -release the atmospheric moisture– by the process of ‘transpiration’

• Air Purifying:– intake CO2 – release O2 – by the process of ‘photosynthesis’

Let we learn it how they work as a natural air conditioner……

WHAT IS PHOTOSYNTHESIS ?

A process used by plants and other organisms which includes three stages:• Absorption of light • Conversion of light energy into chemical energy• Reduction of CO2 into carbohydrate molecules

The term “photosynthesis” is derived from Greek words:• ‘phos’ means light• ‘synthesis’ means putting together

PHOTOSYNTHESIS

HOW PHOTOSYNTHESIS WORKS ?

• Although photosynthesis is performed differently by different species, the process always begins when energy of light is absorbed by proteins called reaction centres that contain green chlorophyll pigments.

• In plants, these proteins are held inside organelles called chloroplasts, which are most abundant in leaf cells while in bacteria they are embedded in the plasma membrane.

How photosynthesis is useful ?

• Maintains atmospheric oxygen• Supplies all of the organic compounds & most of the energy necessary for life• Average rate of energy captured is 130 terawatts – 6 times larger than current

power consumption of human civilization• Converts 100 – 115 thousand million metric tonnes of carbon into biomass per year

THUS, PHOTOSYNTHESIS IS HELPFUL IN ABSORBING CO2 & PURIFYING AIR.

SO, IT PLAYS A MAJOR ROLE IN MAKING THE FORESTS WORK AS NATURAL AIR CONDITIONER.

TRANSPIRATION• Definition of Transpiration:

“Transpiration is the process of water movement through a plant and its evaporation from aerial parts, such as from leaves, but also from stems and flowers.”

-Leaf surfaces are dotted with pores which are called stomata, and in most plants they are more numerous on the undersides of the foliage. The stomata are bordered by guard cells and their stomatal accessory cells (together known as stomatal complex) that open and close the pore.

-Mass flow of liquid water from the roots to the leaves is driven in part by capillary action, but primarily driven by water potential differences. In taller plants and trees, the force of gravity can only be overcome by the decrease in hydrostatic (water) pressure in the upper parts of the plants due to the diffusion of water out of stomata into the atmosphere. Water is absorbed at the roots by osmosis, and any dissolved mineral nutrients travel with it through the xylem.

• Regulation: -Degree of stomatal opening

-Evaporative demand-Soil water supply -Soil temperature -Depends on plant size

• Features that affect Transpiration:1. Number of leaves2. Number of stomata3. Size of stomata4. Presence of plant cuticle5. Light supply6. Temperature7. Relative humidity8. Wind

• Number of leaves • Number of stomata

• Size of the leaf • Presence of plant cuticle

• Light supply • Temperature

• Relative humidity • Wind

WHY SHOULD WE CONSERVE FORESTS ?

• NEED FOR MORE FOOD• TO PREVENT ECOLOGICAL IMBALANCE• TO KEEP ENVIRONMENT HEALTHY, CLEAN & BEAUTIFUL• TO PREVENT SOIL EROSION• REDUCE FLOODS• ANIMALS DO NOT ENTER HUMAN HABITAT

• The main thing – To use forests as natural Air conditioner

• FORESTS COVERED 60% OF THE EARTH BUT WITH RISING POPULATION & ITS NEED, IT HAS REDUCED TO 30%

CONSERVATION

• HOW SHOULD WE CONSERVE FORESTS ?

• TO SHARE INFORMATION WITH FRIENDS & RELATIVES ABOUT DEFORESTATION & ITS EFFECTS

• JOIN ORGANIZATIONS & INSTITUTES THAT AIM IN CONSERVING FORESTS• REDUCE THE USE OF ARTIFICIAL ITEMS, RECYCLE MORE & RE-USE ITEMS

WHEN MORE PEOPLE WORK TOGETHER, THE IMPACT IS GREATER……

THUS, IT IS CONCLUDED THAT FORESTS ARE HELPFUL FOR PLANET AND OTHER LIVING ORGANISMS IN MANY WAYS VIZ. AIR CONDITIONER.

IT HELPS IN THE FOLLOWING WAYS:

• TO SETTLE OUT, TRAP & HOLD POLLUTANTS• ABSORB CO2 AND OTHER HARMFUL GASES• PRODUCE ENOUGH OXYGEN ON EACH ACRE FOR 18 PEOPLE EVERY DAY• ABSORB ENOUGH CO2 ON EACH ACRE OVER YEAR’S TIME, TO EQUAL THE

AMOUNT YOU PRODUCE WHEN YOU DRIVE YOUR CAR 26,000 MILES

ITS NO SECRET THAT THEY MAKE URBAN ENVIRONMENT MORE PLEASANT, IMPROVE WATER QUALITY AND ENCOURAGE US TO GET OUTSIDE FOR EXERCISE
