Mrs. Martel’s Weekly Write-Up Week of April 23, 2018 “Anyone who does anything to help a child in his life is a hero to me.” Mister Rogers ELA: The 100-minute reading requirement continues for the 3 rd and final trimester. I will be collecting all logs on Monday to see if they’ve met the reading requirement as well as checking on their comprehension. For the 3 rd trimester the requirement is 4 book responses due by June. Genre Folders will also be due the 2 nd week in June, all 20 books for the Genre List are due then. Stamina, desolate, admonish ~ the vocabulary sheet needs to be completed and ready for class on TUESDAY. Students are responsible for looking up the definitions, part of speech, and will also need to do an illustration of the word. The assessment will be on Thursday. The Witch of Blackbird Pond is our new novel. Along with that reading we will be doing some work with Parts of Speech. SOCIAL STUDIES: This week we will start Chapter 4 ~ Building the first Colonies. We will begin with The Spanish Colonies. IMPORTANT DATES: 4/23-4/25 MEA for Science 4/27 Activity Night 5/2 6:30 Concert for Band/Chorus 5/7 Planetarium Dome @ EEMS 5/9 Grade 5 Showcase ~ Music Class Chorus Progress Reports go home Fire Safety Graduation * more info to come 5/10 Tree Planting 5/11 Annual Walk-a-thon ($ due on 5/30) 5/18 Twin Day 6/15 Field Day Mrs. Martel’s Munchkins wear PINK 6/18 Field Trip to Lamoine State Park 6/20 Last day of 5 th grade MEA Science TESTING SCHEDULE 4/23 8:30-9:30 Science 1 4/24 12:45-1:45 Science 2 4/25 8:30-9:45 Science 3 We only have 8 ½ weeks left of 5 th grade. It is important to keep organized, do you best and study for tests/quizzes so that you can end strong!!
