Seeing is Believing: Application of Optical Coherence Tomography in the Research and Practice of Dentistry Alireza Sadr, DDS, PhDCourse Description: Over the past two decades dentistry has made important progresses, thanks to advancements in material science, technology and clinical techniques. Dental bonding revolutionized the shape and content of clinical dentistry, presenting a strong and minimally invasive alternative

to the traditional materials. Our research groups has promoted 3D high-resolution in-depth real-time imaging using Optical Coherence Tomography imaging and analytical methodologies to detect and monitor dental defects such as caries at various stages, cracks and compromised restoration integrity. These visual observations, not ever observed before, lead to recommen-dations on clinical diagnoses and procedures such as bonding protocols and material selection.

Optimized Periodontal Regeneration for Orthodontics (O-PRO) Expands Indications for Orthodontic Treatment by Completely Regenerating The Gingival Recession.Junichi Watahiki, DDS Ph.D. Course Description: A previous report stated that adult orthodontics might induce complications in periodontal tissue. Further, another report demonstrated long-term progression of gingival recession after orthodontic treatment in adults. Root Coverage Procedure with connective tissue graft has been achieved excellent results for the Gingival recession. However, Root Coverage can-not bring about complete periodontal regeneration with hard tissue at the gingival recession site.So if the orthodontic patients had already had a gingival recession, we could not take the effectual way. Therefore, I developed a new surgical procudure called “Optimized Periodontal Regeneration for Orthodontics (O-PRO)” that enables complete periodontal regeneration with hard tissue in the Gingival recession and reported on International Journal of Periodontics & Restorative Dentistry in 2019. I would like to show some interdisciplinary orthodontics cases used O-PRO using a microscope.

Understanding Platelet Rich Fibrin: From Biological Background to Clinical IndicationsRichard J. Miron, DDS, BMSC, MSc, PhD, DMD Course Description: The use of platelet concentrates has had a long-history of use in various fields of medicine as an autologous source of growth factors fabricated utilizing centrifugation of blood under various conditions. While platelet rich plasma (PRP) was proposed as a first-generation platelet con-centrate over 3 decades ago, over the past 10 years, platelet rich fibrin (PRF) has seen a steady increase in utilization for a variety of medical procedures due to its lack of anti-coagulation factors favoring fibrin clot formation and faster wound healing. More recently, the develop-ment of a liquid PRF provides a new formulation of liquid PRF without using anti-coagulation factors that may specifically be combined with currently available bone biomaterials favoring particle stability, angiogenesis and tissue integration. This talk aims to highlight the recent advancements made with respect to the newest formulations of platelet concentrates includ-ing recent developments in horizontal centrifugation and liquid concentrated-PRF to further speed wound healing and tissue regeneration for various clinical indications faced in routine daily dental practice.Learning Objectives:• Provide the biological background and scientific rationale for why platelet concentrates speed wound healing• Introduce new protocols using horizontal centrifugation• Provide clinical indications when, where and why to use PRF (membranes and liquid) in regenerative dentistry and facial esthetics

Additionally, we must never forget that our treatments must be biologically sound in diagnosis and precision execution. Optimal visual data and technology are keys to these goals.MICRO AESTHETICS AND HEALTH - Dentistry is also a biologically and functionally based sub-specialty of medicine. As such dental professionals must address the presence of bacteria,

Wiedemann, MD, PhD, DDSCourse Description:Despite the well documented high predictability, long-term and high success rate of dental im-plants, complications and failures do occur on a regular basis. The demand for implant therapy has fueled growth of the industry. Now many clinicians offer implants as a solution to partial and complete edentulism and the procedures are no longer limited to specialists. Problems with implants have been rising as more clinicians who do not have advanced training and skills are involved in implant placement and implant-related restorations. Some complications may be relatively minor and easy to correct, while others will be more significant and result in im-plant loss, permanent damage of adjacent anatomical structures or even be life-threatening. Considering the number of implants placed or projected to be placed in the United States alone and it is estimated that more than one million implants will require some type of corrective or revision therapy as a result of implant and bone graft related complications. This lecture will present a wide range of clinical situations and cases as well as a review of the literature in order to have an overview on the causes of implant failures, typical intra- and postoperative complications with severe adverse outcomes leading to medical emergencies with potentially life-threatening complication requiring intubation, emergency tracheostomy or intensive care hospitalization.Learning Objectives: • Assess, anticipate and manage common complications associated with implant procedures• Reinforce awareness that even simple implant procedures are invasive in nature and can trigger extremely serious and life-threatening complications• Understand that oral surgeons and dentists, no matter how skilled and experienced in implant surgery, must be at all times aware of even rare, unexpected and severe complications, in order to promptly plan an adequate emergency intervention.

One of the main differences between microphotography and macrophotography is that no lens is attached to the camera in microphotography. This course will outline the advantages of microphotographic documentation vs. the use of macrophotography and intraoral cameras.
