1995 Impact Factors By Peter Gregory*

The Institute of Scientific Information, ISI, based in Philadelphia, USA, has recently published its evaluation of the citation performance of scientific journals in 1995.1’1 Both Advanced Materials and its sister journal Acta Polymerica have done well when the results from 1994 are compared.[2]

Performance is measured in terms of Impact Factors.[3] Advanced Materials once again tops the charts in the category Materials Science when journals publishing novel research are considered (no pure review journals) and has made progress against most of its competitors on the broader Physical Sciences stage, moving from position 10 in 1994 to position 9 in 1995 (Table 1).

A similar analysis of the field of polymer science (original research journals) reveals the progress made by Acta Polymerica, from position 20 in 1994 to position 2 in 1995! Table 2 shows the details for 1995.

The results for both Advanced Materials and Acta Polymerica would seem to be clear indications of the attraction of publications which cross the chemistry/physics interdisciplinary boundary and appeal to both communities. The quality of work submitted to both journals also continues to rise, and it is the fact that scientists increasing entrust their very best work to us which is the most gratifying develop- ment.
