Convention Registration Desks: The Convention On-site Registration Desk, Pre-Reg Desk, and Event Registration Desk will all be located in the front lobby of the convention center. Those who pre-register will pick up their badge, program and any souvenirs they order at a special Pre-Registration Desk located there as well.

Convention RegistrationPre-Registration is open until July 5th at www.HISTORICON.org or use enclosed form (postmarked by July 2nd). The Preliminary Event List (PEL) is available online, containing hundreds of games for nearly all periods of military history. Simply go to the web site, click on ‘Events (PEL)’ link, look over the events, and pre-reg. It’s that easy, and faster than at the convention!

Event RegistrationThere is a full list of hundreds of events (games, etc.) available on the convention web site with still more onsite in the convention program. Many events also have sponsors who have donated merchandise or prizes. Most importantly, with your convention admission all events (except tournaments) are FREE!

Pre-registrants may register for two (2) event per day. In addition, at the convention, all attendees may register for one (1) event each day (Note: if you pre-registered for events, it means you get one additional event per day!) On site registration is conducted at the Event Registration Desk, located in the front lobby of the convention center. Additionally, you can enter other events just by arriving at the event location before the start time and asking the GM if there are any openings. Note: There is no registration for seminars and painting events; they are first-come-first-seated!

Convention Events There are different types of activities to enjoy at HISTORICON. From hundreds of Gaming Events covering nearly all periods of military history, to Tournaments, the War College, and various Painting Events and Contests. In fact, you may find there is so much to do at the convention that you wish it lasted longer! The following is a list of just some of this year’s highlights and special events. Go to www.HISTORICON.org for full details.

TournamentsThis year, HISTORICON continues its tradition of offering the strongest tournament program in the United States. The locally run Flames of War (FoW) tournament and the FoW US Nationals event will be amongst the country’s largest. The North American Society of Ancient and Medieval Wargamers (NASAMW) returns with their full tournament lineup in DBA, DBM, FoG and Warrior, with a little DBN and HOTT thrown in for good measure. The Renaissance Wargaming Society will sponsor an all-day Thursday FoG Renaissance tournament and there’s also an all-day SAGA Dark Ages skirmish tournament. Moving further afield, there’s a full-day FoG Napoleonics tourney on Saturday and Warlord Games is sponsoring two different Bolt Action WW2 skirmish tournaments. And of course, always look for Wargods on Saturday night!

Miniature Hobby UniversityOnce again, the Hobby University Staff has prepared excellent hobby/painting events in an ongoing effort to improve our curriculum and give you an outstanding convention experience – our updated curriculum offers classes designed for every ability level of miniature painter. We have increased our staff of experienced hobbyists to give students an opportunity to learn new and different techniques. Even if you have taken a class previously, a different instructor will add to your repertoire of skills. Class sign up sheets will be in the University Area – the hallway at the far right of the Expo Center (see Center map). Sheets go out in the morning for each day’s classes – classes fill up quickly (as space is limited), so do not delay in getting signed up.

The HMGS War CollegeJoin with authors, artists, historians, rules and scenario designers, gaming and hobby VIPs, etc., for some of the most interesting seminars and discussions you have ever attended as a wargamer or student of military history.

Fredericksburg, VirginiaFredericksburg, VA is half way between Metropolitan Washington, D.C. and Richmond. It is located off the busy 1-95 corridor, within one of the fastest growing regions in the nation. It makes a great destination for a family vacation.

The Fredericksburg Expo and Convention Center is situated within “Central Park” , a 2.4 million square foot mixed-use major retail and entertainment entity, that is part of “Celebrate Virginia” , a unique concept that upon completion will be known as: Virginia’s Largest Tourism Campus. There are over 160 retailers and 50 restaurants available for you and your family to visit when you’re not busy at the convention. If you want even more, the Potomac Mills Discount Outlet mall is only a short drive up I-95.

Fredericksburg is within reach of three major airports (Dulles International, Ronald Reagan (Washington) National and Richmond International), all within an hour’s drive.

There are three Hotels on site: Hilton Garden Inn, Hampton Inn and Suites, and Homewood Suites. As of publication these hotels have sold out for Historicon, but you might check for cancellations. Also, check http://www.historicon.org/lodginggroup.pdf for additional hotels with which we have made arrangements.

Adjacent to the Center is a championship golf course , Cannon Ridge Golf Club .

When you’re at Historicon, you’re only five minutes from historic Old Town Fredericksburg. Site of one of the major battles of the American Civil War, it is just one of many battlefields (Chancellorsville, Spotsylvania, the Wilderness, etc.,) within easy reach. Also nearby and well worth a visit is the National Museum of the Marine Corps.

If your interests run to amusement parks, King’s Dominion is less than an hour away. (See map next page.)
