1974• When Selena was three years old she

started to show an interest in singing.• When she was nine years old, her father

started a band.• Her older brother was already in a band

called “Los Dinos” meaning “The Boys”.• Selena’s brother changed his band’s name

making it a family band called “Selena y Los Dinos”.

1980• Selena Y Los Dinos had their first

real performance. • It took place at the family

restaurant named “Papa Gayos”.• Shortly after, the restaurant went

bankrupt.

1984• The family moved to Corpus Christi.• Selena recorded her first album called

“Selena Y Los Dinos” which was on the Freddie Label.

• One hit song was “Ya Se Va”.• The album did not sell very well so

Selena’s brother Abraham moved the band from the Freddie Label to Cara Records.

1985-1986• Selena released her second album called

“The New Girl In Town”.• Her next album was “Alpha and Muñequito

Ee Trapo”.• She was discovered by Rick Trevi and Johnny

Canales who were two big names in the tejano music industry.

• In 1986, Selena won the best female vocalist award at the Tejano Music Awards.

1987-1989• Selena sold three other albums.• Jose Behar, who was the president of EMI

Latin, saw her performance and signed her a contract.

• This is when Selena released her first album as just Selena and not Selena Y Los Dinos.

• She also became a spokesperson for coca cola.

1992-1994• Selena married Chris Perez who was

the lead guitarist for her brother’s band, Los Dinos.

• She won a grammy for Best Mexican-American performance.

• Her album Amor Prohibido was then nominated for another grammy.

1995• Selena fired Yolanda ,the manager of her

boutiques who was also the president of her fan club, for stealing money.

• On March 31st Selena and Yolanda got into a fight.

• Yolanda pulled out a gun and shot Selena in the back.

• Selena was pronounced dead at the age of 23.
