"Give thanks worthily to the Lord for having borne, so generously, with your sins and failings. His

pity has recalled us to himself through contrition, confession, atonement and the resolution to lead a good

life. He has drawn us through our call to the religious life, to enter into the state of perfection found in the

Form of Life, with a good company which will not desert us, so as to glorify him at all times for the holy

promise of eternal life, the promise he has already made to us. (St. Colette's Testament)"

St. Colette reminds us about the mission of Christ – to help us to be saved. His role was to make up

for our shortcomings – St. Anselm. He is like a parent who takes on himself the mistakes and sins of his

children and tries to correct them. Parents are sometimes the victims of their children's choices. Some-

times it is the other way too.

In addition, not all of our families are religious. Sometimes we might be the only practicing Catholic

in our families. It is not easy but we need to look at religious families from a bigger point of view – we are

all related to each other. Not so much by last name or by family connections but we are related because

we all come from the same source – God. God is that energy that sustains us and gives power to our ener-

gies.

Last Thursday we celebrated Thanksgiving. For the last few weeks I have been thinking about

gratefulness. We have so many gifts that we can truly be thankful for. We are a very generous parish.

There are a lot of good people here. All of us are good. Sometimes we just make poor choices. This

Thanksgiving, I spent time at the New Melleray Abbey in Iowa. This Abbey is one of my spiritual homes. I

go there to be energized and have peace. When I am there I live the life of a monk. Yes, there is a monk

in me.

Sunday, Nov. 26th – St. John Berchmans d. 1621 He was the "eldest son of a shoemaker, John was born at Diest, Brabant. He early wanted to be a priest, and when thirteen became a servant in the household of one of the Cathedral canons at Malines, JohnFroymont. In 1615, he entered the newly founded Jesuit Collegeat Malines, and the following year became a Jesuit novice. He was sent to Rome in 1618 to continue his studies, and was known for his diligence and piety, impressing all with his holiness and stress on perfection in little things... He is the patron of altar boys."

Sta. Colette nos recuerda acerca de la misión de Cristo: ayudarnos a ser salvos. Su papel era

compensar nuestras deficiencias: San Anselmo. Él es como un padre que se hace cargo de los errores y

Friday, December 1st – Eligius – d. 660 Patron of metalworkers. He "was born around 590 near Limoges in France. He became an extremely skillful metalsmith and was appoint-ed master of the mint under King Clotaire II of Paris. Eligius developed a close friendship with the King and his reputation as an out-standing metalsmith became wide-spread... Eligius was very generous to the poor, ransomed many slaves, and built several churches and a monastery at Solignac... Eligius was appointed Dagobert's first counselor. Later, on a mission for Dago-bert, he persuaded the Breton King Judicael, to accept the authority of Dagobert. Eligiuslater fulfilled his desire to serve God as a priest... Then he was made bishop of Noyon and Tournai. His apostolic zeal led him to preach in Flanders, especially Antwerp, Ghent, and Courtai where he made many converts..."

Thursday, Nov. 30th - St. Andrew He was 'also known as Andrew the Apostle, was a Christian Apostle and the older brother to St. Peter. According to the New Testament, Andrew was born in the village of Bethsaida on the Sea of Galilee during the early first century. Much like his younger brother, Si-mon Peter, Andrew wasalso a fisherman. An-drew's very name means strong and he was known for having good social skills... Per Christian tradition, Andrew went on to preach the Good News around the shores of the Black Sea and throughout what is now Greece and Turkey. Andrew was martyred by cruci-fixion in Patras... He was crucified on a cross form known as "crux decussata," which is an X-shaped cross or a "saltire. commonly re-ferred to as "St. Andrew's Cross."'

The Virgin Mary "showed St. Catherine the medal of the Immaculate Concep-tion, now universally known as the "Miraculous Medal." She commissioned St. Catherine to have one made, and to spread devotion to this medal.

Dear Parishioners, Families & Visitors of St. Colette, In our busy lives we often feel stressed and overwhelmed as we try to balance the many demands we struggle with daily. God calls us to leave these demands to him, Jesus knows of such demands and extends his mercy and the Holy Spirit is there to refresh us. God calls us to rest when we are stressed, when we feel overwhelmed and when we are carrying burdens. How do we do this? Simply by spending time with God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. God commanded us to "keep Holy the Sabbath;" not because God needs this, but because he knows we need this. To all of you, I have heard your struggles and challenges many which keep you from Mass, so this Advent, I am introducing a Sunday Evening 5:30 p.m. Mass. Advent is the season of preparation for Christ arrival. Prayer, penance and fasting are appropriate. All are welcome to join us during the Advent Season and throughout the rest of the school year. Families from our Share Faith Program and FOCUS High School Ministry, this is a great opportunity to attend Mass by coming a half hour earlier and meeting in the Church to celebrate Mass. Let us together renew our relationship with Christ this Advent as we prepare for his birth. I look forward to celebrating Mass with you on December 3, 2017, the First Sunday of Advent.

Queridos Feligreses, Familias y Visitantes de Sta. Colette, En nuestras ocupadas vidas, a menudo nos sentimos estresados y abrumados al tratar de equilibrar las muchas demandas con las que luchamos diariamente. Dios nos llama a dejarle estas demandas, Jesús conoce tales demandas y extiende su misericordia y el Espíritu Santo está allí para refrescarnos. Eucharistic Adoration HOLY ADORATION IS HELD THE FIRST FRIDAY

OF EACH MONTH AT ST. COLETTE PARISH FROM 8:30 A.M. UNTIL 9:00 P.M MASS.

This year as Advent approaches, I have again glanced at the lovely little Advent prayer book a friend had handed me at church a few years ago. It was such a kind gesture. On the cover of the book it said, “Behold a virgin shall be with Child and bring forth a Son: and they shall call His name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.” Matthew 1:23. “God with us.” My thoughts turned to our church, and the beautiful quiet stillness of our Adoration Chapel. Yes, “God with us.” What a truly wonderful gift we were given on that first Christ-mas. Please Lord in my busy life, help me to not for-get the point, the whole point, “He is with us.” Let’s keep our eyes fixed on Jesus as we prepare for Christmas. How about taking the time to visit our Lord and tell Him how much He means to you, to-day, tomorrow and always. Then let us take the message of His love and bring it into a world that needs Him so much. What can I bring to the world this Christmas time? What gift can I give everyone around me as I prepare to celebrate the gift that our Mother Mary brought to the earth for our redemption? Perhaps we can walk closer to God. Perhaps we can go out to the highways, and the byways, with a loving heart, and we can take a moment to say Merry Christmas. We can also plan on having a peace filled Christmas. Forgiving our neighbors, offering a kind smile, a hand shake, or a wave to our neighbors and friends. Little gifts along the way of friendliness and good cheer. Yes, there is something very sacred about Advent. It is a time of preparing, a time of waiting, a time of quiet, stillness, a time to give a little more and dig a little deeper into the true meaning of this holy season of Advent. ‘He Is With Us” Come Let Us Adore Him. Happy Advent!

Adoración Eucarística TENEMOS ADORACIÓN EL PRIMER VIERNES DE

Este año, al acercarse el Adviento, volví a echar un vistazo al encantador libro de oraciones de Adviento que un amigo me había dado en la iglesia hace unos años. Fue un gesto amable. En la portada del libro decía: "He aquí, una virgen concebirá y dará a luz un hijo, Y llamarás su nombre Emanuel, m que traducido es: Dios con nosotros.” Mateo 1:23. "Dios con nosotros". Mis pensamientos se dirigieron a nuestra iglesia y a la hermosa y tranquila quietud de nuestra Capilla de Adoración. Sí, "Dios con nosotros". Qué maravilloso regalo se nos dio en esa primera Navidad. Por favor Señor en mi vida ocupada, ayúdame a no olvidar la razón, la razón entera, "Él está con nosotros". Mantengamos nuestros ojos fijos en Jesús mientras nos preparamos para la Navidad. ¿Qué le parece tomarse el tiempo para visitar a nuestro Señor y decirle cuánto significa para usted, hoy, mañana y siempre? New State Scholarship Program Ever thought about sending your children to St. Colette School and didn’t think that you could afford it? In August 2017, with bipartisan support, the House and Senate passed a comprehensive education funding bill that was signed into law by the governor. The law includes a provision for tax credit scholarships, which provide strong incen-tives for donors to support non-public school scholarships for low-income students in the state. Illinois students from low-income families may use these new scholarships to attend a non-public school of their choice. This legislation represents a major step forward that will help create more equity in school funding throughout Illinois, and for the first time provide real school choice for students and their families.
