Mission Statement We, the faith community of St. Colette, in proclaiming the truth of the Gospel are committed to follow Jesus Christ by being ”the salt of the earth” and “the light of the world”. By our Baptism we are called to serve people of all cul-tures, migrants, and those who have no voice of their own; our born and unborn children; victims of violence, and the impoverished. Empowered by the Holy Spirit and nurtured by the Eucharist, we are led to promote human dignity and justice for all people. We believe that this is the way the Lord is calling us to be a sign of His kingdom in this time and place.

St. Colette School…

Beloved St. Colette parishioners, By now you must have learned from the media and fellow parishioners that St. Colette School will effectively close on June 30, 2020. Whereas much of the facts about the closing have been addressed over time, this comes to us as a formal pronouncement. Dr. Jim Riggs, the Superintendent of Catholic Schools for the Archdiocese of Chicago, stated, “The Closure of St. Colette School has been a big question for several months”. “We have been speaking about the financial tension and strain being felt at St. Colette School for some time”. “The Archdiocese has been helping St. Colette School with financial assistance”. “Unfortunately, the target was not met for the Fund Raising this year even though there were many here that were working hard on this effort”. “ The Fund Raising was insufficient”. “I must announce to you that at the end of this school year St. Colette School must close.” Dr. Riggs shared that the needs of teachers regarding their benefits and employment placement will be met. Additionally, the students and their parents will be given resources and information necessary for them to transfer to other Catholic Schools of their choice. St. Colette School has been a major component of our parish life. Generations have gone through the doors of our school. Many personal stories are being told and many resumes have St. Colette School mentioned in them. It is part of our legacy. Obviously, there are mixed feelings that involve both present and past generations. For several years now, commitment from St. Colette parishioners to the school has remained fervent, donors from within and from outside the parish have shown strong belief on the Catholic education, identity and values. That support will never go unnoticed. Moving forward, we must embrace this new reality. Scholarships for the children will be directed to schools they will choose to proceed to. The Principal, Mr. Joseph Quinlan, intends to organize efforts to see to it that the children present in the school have a rewarding rest of the school year. Positive support may involve asking the parishioners to volunteer and offer their advice and service. It is all geared to leave a positive impact honoring the legacy embedded in those corridors. May we all work together, pray and assist in a positive way as we move through this transition. St. Colette, pray for us.

Escuela St. Colette ...

Next week, we will take up the Collection for the Church in Latin America. For many in Latin America and the Caribbean, a rising secular culture, difficult rural terrain, and a shortage of ministers all present obstacles to practicing the faith. Your support for the collection provides lay leadership training, catechesis, priestly and reli-gious formation, and other programs to share our Catholic faith with those who long to hear the Good News of Christ. To learn more about how your gifts make a difference, visit www.usccb.org/latin-america.
