Revised 2017 MTL PSLE Format
• In alignment to the recommendations of the MOE MTL Review in 2011, MOE will enhance the teaching, learning and assessment. Assessment will be aligned with the changes in teaching and learning. There will also be greater use of ICT platforms to create realistic, interactive settings that test students’ ability to use the language effectively and meaningfully.

Preparations for the New Oral Format
• Our teachers will prepare our pupils for the new PSLE format with effect from this year.
• Our school has also aligned our P5 school-based assessments to the new PSLE format.

Revised Oral Assessment Process

Pupils have 10 minutes
of preparation time to do
silent reading and looking at the video
clip using a computer.
Pupils will read the
passage in front of the examiners using the computer.
Examiners will converse
with the pupils topics relating to the video
clip.
Use of Dictionary during Examination
• Approved dictionary (book, electronic) can be used for MTL Paper 1 (Composition) Examination for both PSLE and school internal examinations.
• Obtain the dictionary early so that students are familiar with the dictionary.

Preparing Your Child for the PSLE
Preparing Your Child to be a Self-directed Lifelong Learner
who is ready for the next stage of his education journey
Preparing Your Child to be a Self-directed Lifelong Learner
• Provide a stable home environment that is nurturing and conducive for your child to learn.
• Inculcate self-discipline and good study habits.
• Manage distractions (eg internet usage, overseas trips during school term) to communicate the importance of learning.
• Communicate with teachers to find out your child’s progress and take prompt action to address areas of concern.
• Affirm your child’s efforts.
• Talk to your child about his/her interests, strengths and aspirations .
• Find out more about the secondary schools that your child is interested in.
Choices for P6 Students
Sec 1 Posting ExerciseDirect Schools Admission –
Secondary Exercise
Sec 1 Posting Exercise
•All students who pass the PSLE are eligible for S1 Posting Exercise.
• Conducted after the release of the PSLE results
• Students are posted to secondary schools based on merit according to three criteria:• Student’s PSLE results• Choices of schools• Vacancies available in the schools
• Information on secondary schools will be provided to all students prior to the release of the PSLE results.
Direct School Admission – Secondary (DSA – Sec) Exercise?
• Introduced by the Ministry of Education in 2004
• Seeks to promote holistic education and provide students an opportunity to demonstrate a more diverse range of achievements and talents in seeking admission to a secondary school
•An admission exercise to allow participating secondary schools to select some Primary Six (P6) students for admission to Secondary One. The selection will be based on their achievements and talents before the PSLE results are released.
• Takes place from July to Nov (tentative) each year

Results Release Stage
• Results of DSA school allocation will be released on the same day as PSLE results.
• Successful DSA candidates will not be allowed to make any school option in the centralised S1 Posting Exercise.
Unsuccessful DSA Students
•Will be issued with a S1 Option Form, informing them that their DSA application were unsuccessful
•Have to submit their school choices during the S1 Option period to participate in the S1 Posting Exercise

• Encourage your child to develop his/her talents through the school’s existing programmes (eg CCA, C3 Programme)
