There shall be no flood to destroy the earth again.’ God said, ‘here is the sign of the Covenant I make between myself and you and every living creature with you for all generations: I set my bow in the clouds and it shall be a sign of the Covenant between me and the earth. RESPONSORIAL PSALM Ps 24: 4-9Your ways, O Lord are love and truth to those who keep your covenant.

SECOND READING A reading from the first letter of St Peter 3: 18-22“The water on which the ark floated is the type of baptism which saves you now”

Christ himself, innocent though he was, had died once for sins, died for the guilty, to lead us to God. In the body he was put to death, in the spirit he was raised to life, and, in the spirit, he went to preach to the spirits in prison. Now it was long ago, when Noah was still building that ark which saved only a small group of eight people ‘by water’, and when God was still waiting patiently, that these spirits refused to believe. That water is a type of the baptism which saves you now, and which is not the washing off of physical dirt but a pledge made to God from a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who has entered heaven and is at God’s right hand, now that he has made the angels and Dominations and Powers his subjects. The Word of the Lord

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION Mt 4: 4Praise to you, O Christ, king of eternal glory! Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. Praise to you, O Christ, king of eternal glory!

GOSPEL A reading from the holy gospel according to Mark 1: 12-15Jesus was tempted by satan and the angels looked after Him

The Spirit drove Jesus out into the wilderness and he remained there for forty days, and was tempted by Satan. He was with the wild beasts, and the angels looked after him. After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the Good News from God. ‘The time has come’ he said ‘and the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the Good News.’The Word of the Lord

First Sunday of Lent (Vocation View): Lent is the springtime of the soul. A time to make a new covenant with God, develop new signs of our relationship with our creator. Go into your own desert and discover your calling.

Pope’s Prayer Intention: Say “NO” to corruption. That those who have material, political or spiritual power may resist any lure of corruption.

PARISH MISSION STATEMENT We, the Catholic people of Corio/Lara guided by the Spirit, participate in Christ’s Mission.

With our gifts we create a Parish that welcomes all people.

PARISH PRAYER We, the people of Corio/Lara Catholic Parish give thanks and

praise to God the Father. By the power of the Holy Spirit, may we become more like Jesus: listening to the Word of God and celebrating the Eucharist; sharing each other’s lives and forgiving one another; respecting creation and

taking responsibility for our world.Like St Francis Xavier, may we offer light to those in

darkness, and warmly welcome all people.Like St Anthony of Padua, may we nourish the hungry

with wise words and kind deeds.St Francis Xavier, pray for us.

St Anthony of Padua, pray for us.

Reflection

Do you ever think about how difficult it must have been for Jesus to come into Galilee, knowing that John had been arrested for teaching the same message that Jesus was proclaiming. It must have taken

great love and trust for Jesus to do what the Father had sent Him here on earth to do. In the same way, following a life of stewardship takes great love and trust from us. We must be willing to

surrender completely to God, trusting that God will always give us all that we need to fulfil His plan for us.
