Welcome to South Aiken Presbyterian Church! We are glad that

you are here this morning to join us in offering a service of

worship to the Lord. We believe all people are children of God.

We believe that the redeeming grace of God can bring each of us

into a new day. We believe all people are loved with a love that

has no end in Jesus Christ. Today, may our eyes be opened

again to these truths. May the blessings of joy and hope that can

only come from the nearer presence of God fill each of our

hearts. Let us worship God!

PLEASE NOTE: Please silence your phone dur ing the service. If needed, large print hymnals and sound

amplification devices are available in the Narthex. Please see an usher for assistance in obtaining these items.

NURSERY AND CHILDREN

Infants and toddlers are welcome in our nursery during both of our worship services and during our 10:00 a.m.

Sunday school hour. The nursery is located on the north side of the SAPC building complex. To find it,

please exit the front (main) entrance to the sanctuary and turn left. You will see a sign for the nursery at the

door on the side of the next building.

Children are invited either to remain in the sanctuary for the worship services or to go to the nursery at their

parents’ discretion. For those children who remain for the services, worship activity bags are available and

may be picked up near the doors as you enter the sanctuary. Bags are available for both older children (ages 7-

12 - blue handle) and younger children (ages 3-6 - purple handle). During today’s 11:00 a.m. service, children

ages 3 years through 5K are welcome to participate in our Children’s Church program, which follows the

Moment with Children. Chaperones will escort the children from the sanctuary to the fellowship hall for the

program. You may pick your children up in the fellowship hall after the service. If you need assistance of

any kind, please see an usher.

GATHERING AROUND THE WORD

*Prayer of the Day (Unison)

God of all creation, we awe at your communication with us. From the solar systems, galaxies,

planets, and this earth, we acknowledge your love for the world. We see how you communicate

through the oceans, forests, plains, deserts, and each individual natural beauty. We see how you

have communicated through your Son Jesus, the Word, your Spirit. We are amazed at how infinite

you are, yet you come close. O Lord, communicate to us today in our worship. May our minds and

hearts be open and focused on your closeness now. In Christ’s name we pray, Amen.

*Call to Worship (Psalm 51) (Responsive)

One: Have mercy on us, O God, according to your steadfast love;

Many: according to your abundant mercy blot out our sins. For we know our sins, and our sin

is ever before us.

One: You desire truth in the inward being; therefore teach us wisdom in our secret hearts.

Many: Let us hear joy and gladness; let the bones that you have crushed rejoice.

One: Create in us clean hearts, O God, and put a new and right spirit within us.

ALL: Restore to us the joy of your salvation, and sustain in us a willing spirit.

*Hymn #664 Morning Has Broken

*Prayer of Confession (Unison)

Triune God, we confess that we talk to you more than we listen to you. We struggle hearing and

discerning your message through the Holy Spirit. We are distracted, hindered, and concerned about

ourselves rather than growing to see you in nature, in the world, and in each other. O Lord, help us

to be alert for your ways of communication. Spirit of the living God, turn us from individual

concerns to concerns of the community, help us unite in the Spirit to hear your direction through

Jesus Christ… (In silence, confess your personal sins), Amen.

(As you hear the water poured, remember you are cleansed by God’s grace.)

*Assurance and Forgiveness

*Passing of the Peace (Responsive) (11:00)

One: Since God has forgiven us in Christ, let us forgive one another. The peace of our Lord Jesus Christ

be with you all.

All: And also with you.

One: Let us give signs of welcome, reconciliation, and peace with one another.

RESPONDING TO GOD’S WORD

*Affirmation of Faith: LORD’S DAY 45 Questions 116-118, THE HEIDELBERG CATECHISM

One: Q. Why do Christians need to pray?

ALL: Because prayer is the most important part of the thankfulness God requires of us. And also because God gives his grace and Holy Spirit only to those who pray continually and groan

inwardly, asking God for these gifts and thanking God for them.

One: Q. What is the kind of prayer that pleases God and that he listens to?

ALL: First, we must pray from the heart to no other than the one true God, revealed to us in his Word, asking for everything God has commanded us to ask for. Second, we must fully recognize

our need and misery, so that we humble ourselves in God’s majestic presence. Third, we must rest

on this unshakable foundation: even though we do not deserve it, God will surely listen to our

prayer because of Christ our Lord. That is what God promised us in his Word.

One: Q. What did God command us to pray for?

ALL: Everything we need, spiritually and physically, as embraced in the prayer Christ our Lord

himself taught us.

*Prayer of Thanksgiving with The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name, thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our debts,

as we forgive our debtors; and lead us not into temptation

but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power,

and the glory forever. Amen.
