I have had a few sneak peeks at the 2010 art works that children have been working on and they look amazing. The children cannot wait to unveil them at the art auction preview next Thursday 25 November. Come along and join us in celebrating the children’s artistic talents in visual arts and music. Evaluation Survey If you are on the DEM distribution list you will soon be receiving an electronic survey to complete. The survey asks for your thoughts about the school in the areas of leadership, mathematics and general school satisfaction. Your support in completing this survey is appreciated. All surveys are anonymous Walkathon The sun was shining last Friday when the teachers and students stepped out for the North Sydney Demonstration School Walkathon. Congratulations to everyone for their enthusiastic participation. Many families have already sent in their sponsorship money or donations. If you have not had a chance to do so please send it in ASAP so that we can finalise the event. 2011 news and notices! We are beginning to discuss classes for 2011. Some children have conveyed that they may be going overseas, interstate or moving out of the local area, however ,we have not received confirmation from their parents as yet. If you know that your child will not be returning to North Sydney Demonstration School in 2011 (year 6 excluded) please help us by sending an email or making a phone call so that we can make the necessary preparations for a successful start to 2011. If there are special circumstances that you would like the school to consider with regard to your child’s placement next year please feel free to write me a letter, send an email or make an appointment time during the next few weeks. Once classes are formed in term one, changes will only be made in exceptional circumstances. My email address is [email protected] Congratulations to Todd Mackie who was appointed through merit selection to the position of classroom teacher at North Sydney Demonstration School last month. Todd brings a multitude of new skills and talents to the DEM and we are looking forward to him joining us in 2011. Todd will be replacing Tony Cross who is moving to Newington College in 2011. Tony has proven himself to be a dedicated and enthusiastic professional and he will be missed by all of those who have worked with him. Dear Parents/Carers,
Next Wednesday 24th November will be the the last P&C General Meeting for 2010.Traditionally at our last meeting we reflect on the year and discuss our priorities for next year.Financial Planning for 2011 has already begun and a draft budget will be tabled for discussion.
If you are thinking of taking a more active role within the school parent body, this is probably thebest meeting of the year to attend. It will give you an insight into the structure of the Committeeand how the Committee plans to support our children in 2011.
Also the school community should be aware that several of the key office bearers on theCommittee will be "retiring" at the end of the year making way for MORE energetic, enthusiasticparents to continue to great work of North Sydney Demonstrations School's P&C. We mustemphasise that a great deal of help will be needed in all facets of the P&C including supportingthe Tuck Shop, Uniform shop and taking on specific roles on the Committee.
Please come along and join us in our last meeting for 2010, light refreshments will be served afterthe meeting at 8pm. What a great opportunity for curious new members to be a part of theplanning process for 2011 and chat informally to our current and "retiring" members. Lookforward to seeing you there!

Art Auction news!
Each year, classes from the Dem create an artwork as a whole-class project. These pieces areauctioned at the End of Year BBQ as a fundraising initiative for the school. We will have a previewnight in a few weeks’ time.
We will feature classes in the Dem Newsletter as they progress through their artworks.
Artists of the Week
5MT is creating a stained glass artwork
that has an area of ½ square metre. Eachstudent in the class is contributing to thepainting of the picture. An environmentaldesign was chosen as this ties in nicely withour unit on sustainability this term. Eachstudent is also completing their ownindividual piece which they haveindependently designed based on a nativeAustralian plant or animal.
1JP is creating an artwork that would look fantastic on any living room wall. It consists of 3 pieces
of canvas, which will take up an area of approximately 1.2 square metres. The canvas was initiallypainted black, and then impasto was applied in sections to give it a rough, fuller texture. Eachmember of the class is painting one or two sections in yellow, blue, green, red and brown, so it shouldmatch most colour schemes!
