The Easter Bunny and his friend The Clown are already in Lydenburg waiting for children to come and visit him. He will be at Tumbleweed Nursery for a Easter Fun Day. He brought a special Easter basket for his photo session. Tumbleweed will have face painting, apple bobbing, hot dogs, a tea garden and much more to entertain the children on Saturday 19 April from 10:00 till 13:00. Gardening service dumps at town’s entrance

Illegal Dumping at the town’s entrance is an eye sore for all the tourists and the town. How can

someone (known to the Highlands Panorama News) do this if they just have to travel a few kilometers further to the municipal dump site? The

dumping site is accessible and there is no reason not to use it.

MBB has managed to secure a two month interim agreement with Eskom in which Eskom is willing to pay for the reduced municipal load as a result of having the hydro operational. (power is still supplied to the municipality).The agreement will be implemented from this coming Monday onwards. The agreement entails that: 1.Eskom pays R635/MWh of reduced load, from 08:00 to 20:00 Monday to Thursday, excluding holidays. 2. If generating 2MW, this implies that Eskom will pay approximately R240 000 per (full) month when there are no holidays. 3. The agreement requires MBB to pay 34% of the income received from Eskom back into the Municipalities Eskom account to settle debt. 4. The remaining 66% of the funds will be used to pay the maintenance fund, and MBB as per contract. 5. The hydro must be off-line every Monday or first business day of the week from 06:00 to 07:00 in order for Eskom to set the CBL. 6. The agreement is for 2 months only (April and May 2014). By implication:

1. We will run the hydro 24h per day 7 days per week excluding Mondays from 06:00 to 07:00, water and maintenance schedule permitting. Starting Monday 14 April morning at 07:00.2. Funding will be distributed by MBB as indicated above. 3. Funding towards MBB will be used to credit MBB invoices as per contract, and to pay off debt if applicable.4. The agreement ends by the end of May 2014, when an alternative arrangement needs to be in place (WEPS agreement with Eskom).5. It is therefore of utmost importance that the debt ake time

repayment agreement with Eskom be put in place before then. It will take time to finalize the WEPS contracts, so the arrangement with Eskom must be in place by the end of April to prevent disruption of supply in June (winter and high demand season). 6. The municipality receives a direct additional benefit of R240 000 per month as a result of innovative actions by MBB.

Kriminêle teiken die area omdat die gras langs Ruiterstraat in die bos lank is en gesteelde goedere maklik daar versteek kan word. Hulle kan ook daar wegkruip.Die Highlands Panorama Nuus b e d a n k g r a a g d i e sekuriteitsmaatskappye wat flink optree en ons wil ’n beroep doen op die SAPD en die sekuriteitsmaatskappye om hulle patrollies in die gebied vir ’n rukkie te verhoog.Die manne wat gereeld met hulle Bantam vliegtuie in die omgewing vlieg word ook gevra om gereeld oor die veld tussen die visserye en Ruiterstraat te vlieg en observasies te doen oor wat hulle in die veld kan waarneem en om goedere wat uit die lug gesien kan word, te rapporteer.Huisbewoners word gevra om hulle diere in die huis te hou en hulle met ’n leiband uit te laat om hulle besigheid te doen. Moet nie toelaat dat jou hond iets op die gras optel en vreet nie. By een huis is temic in maalvleis in die swembad opgemerk. Hou deure en vensters gesluit en bring alarms en infrarooi strale (beams) in jou erf aan. Die kriminele gebruik ’n koevoet of paal om jou diefwering te breek en oop

DIE oorspronklike plan was om dié week net ’n swart agtergrond met ’n brandende wit kersie in die Outoppie te plaas met die woord “Genoeg!” Maar dit was so ’n besige week dat ek iets hier moet sê. Eerstens sukkel ek om my sypaadjie op te ruim wat die munisipaliteit of hulle kontrakteur verwoes het met hulle

bome afsaery. Gelukkig dink ek nie die munisipaliteit sal hulle betaal nie, want hulle is bankrot. Dit is hulle verdiende loon, om my sypaadjie so te verwoes. En gelukkig het my gawe buurman gehelp om die dik stomp wat net so aan die boom bly hang het, op te saag. Dankie oom Faan.Intussen was Michelle siek en hol ek rond vir stories, anders het ons nie dié week ’n koerant nie. Nuwe koffiehuis, BVK se golf, nuwe chiropraktisyn, senior burgers by Rusoord wat verjaar, dokumente vir Rusoord wat geteken moes word, vergaderings, Tokkelos van Kwenadam

wat sy storie in die koerant wil hê en elke ding. Ek is eintlik veronderstel om afgetree te wees.En ek en Matilda het toe ook namiddae weer begin loop, omdat ons sleg onfiks word. Intussen begin die kriminêle vuilgoed weer honde in die buurt vergiftig en sit ek snags regop met die pompaksie in die hoog voor houding en hou die goggas voor die kameras dop! Wil hulle (die kriminêle) se gatte vol SSG blaas.En dit alles het gemaak dat die drie goed wat ek regtig dié naweek wou doen, nie gebeur het nie. Ek kon nie met die motorfiets ’n draai gaan ry nie. Ek kon nie die Sasol Tydren bywoon nie en ek kon nie lees aan die geleende boeke nie.Demmit!

MY ongelowigheid begin waar Thomas s’n eindig. Die noot is na die sessie in die bank se vou ingedruk. Dis 'n bejaarde tingerige tannie met ligbruin en grys gekrulde hare wat jou begroet. Met jou palms om hoog vertel sy wat vir jou voorlê en dat jy goeie gesondheid geniet. Dit nadat die dokter 'n uur van te vore 'n dosis antibiotika voorgeskryf het. Na afloop van die woonwasessie het een vrou vir my gesê: “As jy lag as jy daar inkom dan het jy in 'n baie gelukkige huis grootgeword en jy is baie gelukkig.” Dit was ook nie anders nie. Gewoonlik gaan sy na Switserland. Die Skandinawiese lande is immers bekend vir die tradisionele waarsê-praktyke soos tarot-kaarte en eeue oue Rune-stene. Oud-inwoner skryf:Ek as oud inwoner van Lydenburg was baie baie diep geskok oor die gemors in die ou Begraafplaas waat baie van ons voorgeslagte begrawe lêEk hoop Thaba Chweu Munisipaliteit doen nou iets aan die swak toestande van ons dorp. Ons is moeg vir die gemors en gate in die strate en TCM se swak diens.

’n Vereniging bied ’n beurs aan vir graad 11 of 12 leerders wat na skool wil verder studeer. Die leerder moet ’n gemiddeld van 70% of hoër hê en volledige akademiese rekords kan toon. Dit is ook verbonde aan ander voorwaardes. Die beurs is vir leerders wat in onderwys of l a n d b o u v e r d e r w i l s t u d e u r . Vir meer inligting skakel 082 928 4233 of 082 895 8492. Nadia Lamprecht van Lydenburg skryf: Ek wil graag eenmalig antwoord op die brief van mnr. Pienaar van 3 April ‘Bedel is seker nou ’n skoolvak’. Ek is ’n onderwyseres aan die plaaslike hoërskool en ook die organiseerder van ’n opvoedkundige toer na Europe in Junie/ Julie. Ek wil dit baie duidelik stel dat hierdie nie ’n skooltoer is nie, en ook nie so geneem moet word nie. Ek neem wel leerlinge van die skool en ’n paar ouers saam. Die toer het reeds in 2012 vir die eerste keer plaasgevind. Weens die feit dat dit ’n reuse sukses was is daar hierdie jaar 31 kinders wat saamgaan. Die skool en departement subsidieer glad nie hierdie toer nie, en die toergelde word deur die ouers en toesighouers self betaal. In die afgelope paar maande het die Euro merkwaardig gestyg

Susan van der Walt skryf:Geluk met Highlands Panorama Nuus se toekenning. Na aanleiding van die skrywer mnr. George Floyd oor grondeise en verklarings en mnr. Frik Rousseau oor unieke toekennings deur die VF+.Ek het lank laas so ’n goeie brief gelees oor grondeise. Die regering het hier ’n wilde perd opgesaal. Na aanleiding van mnr. Rousseau se brief wil ek, my gesin en vriende ook die Highlands Panorama Nuus geluk wens met die unieke toekenning. Ons gaan almal op 7 Mei vir die VF+ stem, want geen party alleen kan die ANC wen nie. Al sê die DA wat, die VF+ is in ’n samewerking-koalisie met partye soos Cope, IVP, UDF, UDM en ander partye, wat bekend staan as die kollektief vir demokrasie. Wees realisties en stem vir die kollektief vir demokrasie.

Die kinders het as ’n groep besluit dat hul graag vir spanbou ’n ekstra fondsinsameling wil hou (m.a.w. hul dus nie van hul ouers verwag om meer te betaal nie) en sodoende sommer ook hul eie sakgeld in te samel. Daar is ooreengekom dat ons ’n paar aksies sou loods, soos o.a. blikskud. Die kinders was en is onder geen verpligting om daaraan deel te neem nie en elkeen help waar hul gemaklik voel. Die ouers is bewus van die insamelings en hul ondersteun die idee. Op hierdie punt wil ek noem dat die kinders hoegenaamd nie skoolklere aangehad het nie en dat dit tydens die vakansie gedoen was, sodat dit nie met die skool verbind kon word nie. Dus hou ek nie van u insinuasie dat die skool kinders leer om te bedel nie. Die skool gaan uit sy pad om selfstandige leerlinge te onderrig. Die kinders het baie beslis nie bakhand gestaan en gewag dat iets na hul kant toe kom nie, soos u aantuiging dit laat blyk nie. Hul het uit hul eie besluit om die ekstra werkies te doen. Die insamelings sluit ook in dat hulle ’n r o m m e l v e r k o p i n g d o e n , b y v a n d i e winkelsentrums gaan trollie stoot, worsbroodjies gaan maak en verkoop en ook ’n aand lank optree as kelners in die Spur. Dit dui nie vir my op lui kinders wat bedel nie. Dit bewys dat dit doelgerigte leerlinge is wat hul deel doen, en inisiatief aan die dag lê. Hierdie leerlinge het almal ’n baie sterk karakter, en sal na skool ’n groot sukses van hul lewens maak. Ek sien al hoe gaan hul op universiteit tydens jool blikke skud. Ek sluit dus af deur te sê dat ek ongelooflik trots is op hierdie kinders en dat ek hul een honderd persent steun in dit wat hul doen om hul eie horisonne te kan verbreed. Dit gaan vir my een groot plesier wees om hul saam met my oorsee te neem.

Leerders bedel nie, hul werk en spaar

“DANKIE aan almal wat nog nie moed opgegee het nie.” Met hierdie woorde het voorsitter Wessel Venter Lydenburgers verwelkom by die Algemene Jaarvergadering van die Lydenburg / Mashishing Sakekamer.Na 'n blik op die Sakekamer se vergaderings en bedrywighede van die afgelope jaar, het lede van die uitvoerende komitee eerlike terugvoer gegee oor die stand van sake in die dorp. Die feitlik onmoontlike onderhandelings met die Munisipaliteit, onvermoë van amptenare en totale gebrek aan toerusting en fondse, was 'n deurlopende tema.Leon de Jager het gerapporteer namens die nuutgestigde Thaba Chweu Sake-forum – wat Sabie, Graskop en Lydenburg inkorporeer. Een suksesvole vergadering is gehou maar weens totale gebrek aan deelname deur die Munisipaliteit, val die taakspan uitmekaar uit. Die waardasierol is gedoen maar die stappe wat gevolg is, word deur die Sakekamer bevraagteken.Die huidige waterkrisis en verlies aan inkomste uit elektrisiteit, word vererger deur die feit dat die Munisipaliteit tans 'n negatiewe kontantvloei het. Hulle maak 'n groot verlies op kragrekeninge as gevolg van onwettige kragaansluitings, 'n gebrek aan meters en gebrekkige administrasie.Francois Vermeulen het hierna ingevul met inligting oor die privaatsektor se tegniese taakspan wat uit nood saamgestel is om kundigheid van myne, industr ie en ontwikkelaars te betrek by noodsaaklike onderhoudswerk aan die dorp se infrastruktuur. Die span, onder aanvoering van Martiens van

der Merwe van Sterkspruit Estates, werk agter die skerms aan die dorp se watervoorsiening. Waterpompe is deur die myne vervang maar daar is steeds ernstige lekkasies – en sprake dat die 800mm pyplyn deur 'n 500mm hoë-druk-lyn vervang gaan word. Die grootste frustrasie is egter dat die Munisipaliteit hulle nie tot enige proses verbind of met die tegniese taakspan wil saamwerk nie. Dave Hinton het hierby gevoeg dat die taakspan onlangs 'n raadgewende ingenieur aangestel het.Die rioolstelsel en elektrisiteitsvoorsiening vertel dieselfde negatiewe verhaal. Alle elektrisiteit word tans deur die ou stelsel voorsien en meer kragonderbrekings is byna 'n gegewe. Die hidro-aanleg kan die las aansienlik verlig maar dit kan eers gebeur as die uitstaande R4,1miljoen aan die verskaffer betaal is.Industrie kyk na 'n tydelike transformator om Rooidraai weer aan die gang te kry. Vermeulen

het egter beklemtoon dat die myne en industrie nie altyd kan pa-staan vir onderhoud wat die Munisipaliteit se verantwoordelikheid is nie. “Indien besighede en die privaatsektor nie saamstaan nie, gaan ons almal daaronder ly – met eiendomswaardes wat noodgedwonge sal daal. Dis ons taak om die regte feite te kommunikeer.”'n Duidelik ontstelde mnr Johan Loots moes die vergadering verlaat om probleme met die kragonderbreking by die Hoërskool te help uitsorteer – waar meer as 200 fietsryers in die donker moes wag. Met sy terugkeer het hy bevestig dat Lydenburg Hoërskool se duisendtalle hul stem sal dik maak. “Dis 'n verleentheid voor 200 professionele mense wat dalk nie weer sal wil terugkeer Lydenburg toe nie,” het Loots gesê.Ter afsluiting het die voorsitter, Wessel Venter, Lydenburgers herinner aan die Sakekamer se

leuse: Saam kry ons dinge gedoen. Lydenburg beskik oor die kundigheid om die dorp om te draai. Om belasting terug te hou is nie 'n opsie nie omdat dit onwettig is. Die Sakekamer werk aan 'n plan om die dorp uit die droesem te lig – daarvoor is almal se hulp nodig.Uitvoerende komitee: Wessel Venter (voorsitter), Mohammed Cassim, Leon de Jager, Andre Coetzee, Izak Lange, Dave Hinton, Cassius Smith, Past Andre Hanekom, Francois Vermeulen, Charlene Coetzee, Past Dries Strydom. SUB-standard tow balls and incorrect installation are a sure-fire way to spoil the Easter holiday season by bringing a trip to a premature end – sometimes with disastrous consequences. That’s the view of Mark Gutridge, managing director of Thule Towing Systems SA, which retails a range of tow-ball trailer hitches as both original and after-market equipment.

Gutridge said: “The tow ball is not only a critical physical link between car and trailer but also carries an electrical partnership between the two. "A growing number of new vehicles on the market are designed to identify the presence of a trailer the instant it is plugged in and adjust the behaviour of systems such as electronic stability control accordingly.”

People towing trailers this Easter (and any other time of the year) should also pay attention to South African legal requirements, the most fundamental of which is that the gross trailer mass may not exceed the tare weight of the towing vehicle.

This means you should also take into account the trailer's load. The tow-car's tyre pressures are another critical aspect of towing and extra attention should be paid to manufacturers' pressure recommendations for towing. When a caravan is hitched to the vehicle it should be level with the car or, better, slightly nose-down. The caravan should never be nose-high at the tow ball; any trailer should be heavier at the tow ball.

This vertical load varies from vehicle to vehicle but should be between 45 and 75kg and never more than 100kg – this is the legal maximum although some tow balls are tested to more than double that and indicate this on the their plate. The weight "at the ball" can be measured with a conventional bathroom scale, using the maximum rating for that vehicle printed on the plate as a guideline (taking cognisance of the 100kg legal limit).

The trailer’s contents may need to be rearranged to achieve the desired result. If the tow ball doesn’t have a type plate the possibility exists that it could be home made – in which case one should be very wary about towing with it.

Gutridge said: "It is very easy to overlook the fundamentals of towing – such as reducing speed and adjusting headlights beam height to take the trailer into

account. "Consider that the trailer many have been standing exposed to the elements since the December holiday, so give it a proper "once-over" - especially its tyres’ condition, age (older than 5 years and they start to perish) and pressure."With a bit of planning and this kind of attention to detail towing can be a pleasure rather than a nightmare."

The Soul is slightly bigger than the outgoing model. It has a 20 mm longer wheelbase, is 15 mm wider, but the height has been lowered by 10 mm. The exterior continues the modern and hip design style that we have associated with the current Kia Soul when it was originally launched. LED lamps are implemented in the indicators, day-time running lamps as well as the tail lamps.

Overseas a few trim levels will become available with features such as a tyre pressure monitoring system, steering wheel-mounted controls, USB and aux ports as well as six airbags. Kia will also release a full-electric version of the new Soul

before the end of year, though it is highly unlikely that this vehicle will become available in South Africa in the near future.

A spokesperson for Kia Motors South Africa told CAR that it is unclear at this stage which engines, transmissions (there is again an automatic unit available) and trim levels will become available.

LOS ANGELES, California - Knight Rider star David Hasselhoff is selling his beloved replica Kitt co-star in a bid to raise money for a children's charity. Numerous memorabilia of Hasselhoff will be on the auction block in April, during the Hollywood Legends auction in Beverly Hills, various media reported.

According to the Julien's Auctions website (a company known for selling off celebrity items), the star item in the lot is the legendary Knight Rider's co-star, Kitt the 'talking' car. Hasselhoff starred as Michael Knight in one of the most iconic television shows of all time, 'Knight Rider' from 1982-1986. Hasselhoff’s co-star in the series was a Pontiac Trans Am. The car's name was Kitt, short for Knight Industries Two Thousand. The Pontiac was an artificially intelligent electronic computer module in the body of a highly advanced, robotic automobile.

The 1986 Pontiac Firebird has a 305 five-liter V8, new tyres and a fresh coat of paint; Lamborghini-style doors, air bags, and full 'Kitt' customisation – we’re not too sure what that means. According to the JuliensLive bid website, fans created this Kitt car and gave it to Hasselhoff.

The website said: "This is not your standard 1986 Firebird. The car was made by Jennifer Catano, one of Hasselhoff’s biggest fans. Inside and out she (yes, apparently this is a female version) is fashioned after the beloved icon, including Kitt’s distinct exterior lighting and scissor doors. "Her custom interior features w-style yoke steering wheel and an elaborate digital dash and console. She is programmed to speak with more than 4000 sound bites from the tv show 'Knight Rider'.”

The car will be on display at the Museum of Style Icons in Ireland until April 27 2014. The winning bidder will be responsible for all costs associated with moving and shipping. So far the highest bid on the car stands at the equivalent of R287 650 at the time of this article being published. The star, who is taking part in the reality TV series 'Celebrity Home Raiders', hopes the charity event will raise money for the global children's aid organisation Starlight Foundation.

MERCEDES’ expansion plan has taken on new impetus with the launch of the latest all-new vehicle in its passenger ‘car’ line-up – the V-Class. Described as the ‘Mercedes of MPVs’ by Felix Braun, a V-Class product manager, the replacement to the Viano is thoroughly modern and packed with 11 driver assistance programs such as Crosswind Assist, Active Parking, and LED intelligent light systems to make it properly safe.

Mercedes thinks its S-Class-inspired people carrier will be used by shuttle operators, sports enthusiasts and active, growing families (although in SA the mix will be skewed towards the first set) and V-Class’s cabin can be configured for a number of applications. That the V-Class would have a comfortable and modern cabin is a given. It can seat up to eight in plush leather seats and, for increased practicality over its predecessor, the rear tailgate’s screen can be opened independently. An ergonomic highlight is the intuitive touchpad (situated above the regular trackwheel) that responds to scribbles and swipes when directing the Comand system.

Two models were offered for initial assessment and we elected to try the 120kW V220 CDI before moving on to the V250 BlueTec. A single 2.1-litre four-cylinder with common-rail direct injection provides urge to the three versions offered with outputs ranging from 100kW (for the V200) to 140kW for the BlueTec. This engine is common to the entire Mercedes-Benz passenger car range from A- to S-Class, but is said to have been tweaked for its application on the luxury bus. According to Mercedes, the four-cylinder in the range-topping V250 BlueTec, for example, displays power delivery on par with that seen in a three-litre V6 turbodiesel. All models driven were fitted with 7G-Tronic automatic transmissions, although the V250 was definitely the quickest of the two. Both had no difficulty navigating autobahn, city and village traffic on the trip from Hamburg to St. Peter-Ording on the North Sea coast, before moving on to the town of Niebull to catch the car train to the island of Sylt, and back to Hamburg again.

TO celebrate the success of the Nissan Juke in our market, Nissan South Africa has released a limited run of 50 Juke GT models. These cars will be based on the 1,6 DiG-T Tekna derivative. TOYOTA announced a recall of some 6,39 million vehicles worldwide. The automotive giant’s decision comes after it found fault in 27 of its models, but has not yet heard of any of these particular issues causing injuries or crashes.

This is the second-largest recall in a single day in the company’s history after faulty window switches caused a stir in North America at the end of 2012, with more than 200 cases reported.

This time, the list of problematic parts includes steering columns, windshield wiper motors and engine starters.

On the South African front, vehicles such as the pre-facelift Hilux, Innova MPV and Fortuner SUV are being recalled by Toyota South Africa Motors (TSAM) because of a spiral cable that could potentially be damaged when the driver turns the steering wheel in cornering, causing the airbag to fail to deploy in the unfortunate event of a collision.

Also, the previous-generation Yaris models are being recalled due to a seat-rail spring fault in which the front seats could potentially slide forward in a crash.

TSAM has yet to confirm the exact numbers of local vehicles

SUZUKI’s SX4 has always been a bit of a misfit; not big enough to be called an SUV, yet more raised and bulbous than your average hatchback. Maybe a cross-hatch? Anyway, the new Sx4 has arrived and it still feels like a mix between the two segments although it now leans more towards the SUV side.

It still feels like a hatchback to drive. You don’t have the raised seating position of an SUV and there’s much less roll when driving it around corners. We started with an average tarmac drive before venturing off into the Magaliesburg mountains and its dirt tracks frequented by mountain bikers. The SX4 has just one engine – a 1.6-litre naturally aspirated unit that puts out 86kW and 156Nm of torque. There’s a choice of a manual gearbox or a CVT and you should have no doubts in guessing the manual is the default choice. The CVT seems to sap a lot of the power and requires a good throttling to get up to speed or pull off an overtaking manoeuvre. It’s only got 86kW to work with and feels like it. there’s no spring in the step of the SX4 initially, but once you’re up to speed it keeps at the 120kph mark adequately.

Your final choice is whether you want 4WD or standard front-wheel drive. The 4WD All-Grip models are still mostly front-wheel drive until wheel slip is detected, then torque is shifted to the rear wheels for added traction. The All-Grip models also come with a terrain adjustment toggle with choices of Auto, Sport, Snow and Lock. Snow setting is used for all slippery surfaces whilst Lock sends more torque to the rear wheels and delays the intervention of the ESP system so you can spin the wheels a bit if you get stuck good and proper.

The SX4 handled the dirt tracks with ease and the ride was good over the corrugated surface even if the back end felt a bit clunky over the bigger bumps. Back on the asphalt the SX4 is at home, feeling sure-footed with its nicely weighted steering.

Size-wise the SX4 has made more room inside for things and people due to the increased wheelbase and overall length. Rear leg room is up by 44mm and comes with an adequate-size boot (430 litres). The rear seats fold down in a 60/40 split but strangely don’t fold flat as most SUVs in the segment do. The gadgets on offer are a USB, Bluetooth and MP3-playing radio, cruise control, dual zone climate control and some buttons on the steering wheel to help you control the gadgets.

On the competitor list the SUV will set itself up against the likes of the Nissan Juke, Ford Ecosport and the Renault Duster. The SX4 has hit on a tough market and without a diesel offering or a strong torque-delivering turbo petrol, it is going to have to be aggressive on the price front. Here’s what it’ll cost…

HAVING already pulled the covers off the facelifted hatchback and wagon models a month ago, Ford has now revealed the latest version of its Focus four-door sedan, which is arguably the best looker in the line-up.

The new Focus range goes on sale in South Africa during the fourth quarter of this year and brings an entourage of EcoBoost turbopetrol power in the form of a 91kW 1-litre, three-cylinder and a 1.5-litre four-pot that offers output levels of 110kW and 132kW.

28 April to 2 May the Transnet Phelophepa Healthcare train is in town

Phelophepa, the mobile health train, brings primary healthcare to different

rural villages in South Africa

PHELOPHEPA is owned and operated by Transnet Limited – South Africa's biggest state-owned freight transportation and logistics company. Each train comprises 18 coaches providing facilities to conduct general health, dental and eye checks in rural communities, and dispense treatments for diagnosed conditions. In addition to these general health services, individual counselling sessions and group workshops to help people cope with psychological issues such as stress and depression are offered. The trains also house a special coach where education on general health issues including nutrition, hygiene and dental health can be provided to members of the local communities which the trains visit.Each train travels for 36 weeks of each year, visiting one rural community a week. Rural communities make requests to the Transnet Foundation throughout the year to consider specific stops. Phelophepa II, the second mobile healthcare clinic for the service, was launched in 2012 to bring healthcare to an even greater number of patients each year. Combined with the first train, Phelophepa II effectively doubles the capacity of the service, which can now reach over 375,000 people per year, treat over 90,000 patients and issue over 68,000 prescriptions to those in need. LEEROY Poulter and Elvéne Coetzee (Castrol Team Toyota Yaris) consolidated their lead in the South African National Rally Championship with a comfortable second round win in the Sasol Rally in Mpumalanga. It was their second successive victory of the new season.In an event that saw several of their rivals drop out of contention with punctures and mechanical problems, the Toyota pair who won the Sasol Rally in 2011, had a relatively trouble-free run and thy led the event from special stage four on Friday through to the finish. Even a puncture towards the end of stage 12 was not enough to slow them down too much as they completed the last eight kilometres on a flat wheel and lost about 10 seconds.
