Christian Meditation As taught by Father John Main O.S.B.

Friday, December 16th, at 7pm

Come and experience the light and the love and the peace of Christ that shines within our hearts. Come and join us in Church at 7pm on Friday, December 16th to participate in the tradition and practice of si-lent Christian meditation which brings us to that place of inner silence where “we are simply being with God who is in us in the Holy Spirit whom Jesus has given us” (John Main). Let us deepen our spir-itual life by joining together to contemplate the beauty that is Advent and to anticipate the joy and wonder of the Nativity. The format for our meetings is very simple and will consist of gathering together, followed by a poem, a reading and a prayer. We will listen to a recording of John Main for about 10 minutes then a couple of minutes of gentle music, before meditating together for 20 minutes. We will conclude with some more gentle music and candlelight prayers. This invitation is extended with much love to all who have come to previous meditations and also to anyone who has never meditated before. All are welcome – no experience required.

Adopt a family If you would like to help with our adopt family program, we are collecting store gifts cards (ie. Target, Starbucks, Movies Theaters, fast food, Walmart etc.) All are appreciated.

On this Third Sunday of Advent we are called upon to be patient in anticipation of the coming of the Lord, who, as noted in Psalm 146, "secures justice for the oppressed, gives food for the hungry. - - sets captives free. - ,- gives sight to the blind; - - loves the just; - - protects strangers. The faithful and widows he sustains, but the way of the wicked he thwarts." What relevance does this have for us in the 21st Cen-tury? As Christians we are called upon to be present in the world, specifically in our community and na-tionally; to demand that our representatives put forth policies which serve the common good. From Vati-can II, in "decree of the Apostolate of the Lai-ty" (14): "In loyalty to their country and in fulfill-ment of their civic obligations, Catholics should feel themselves obliged to promote the true common good. Thus they should make the weight of their opinion felt in order that the civil authority may act with justice and that legislation may conform to mor-al precepts and the common good." In the 29 November 2016 issue of the Valley Catho-lic, Tony Magliano, in his article "Making a Differ-ence: The World Needs Saints", quotes from Saint Teresa of Avila: "Christ has no body but yours. No hands, no feet on earth but yours. Yours are the eyes through which he looks (with) compassion on this world. Yours are feet with which he walks to do good. Yours are the hands through which he blesses all the world. Yours are the hands, yours are the feet, yours are the eyes, you are his body. Christ has no body now on earth but yours." One might reflect: do I leave Christ in the tabernacle or bring him with my eyes, hands and feet into the modern world? Comments or input please contact: Doug Harper [email protected]

Planning is now in full swing for the 2017 St. Chris-topher Antique Show, which will be held January 27 – 29, 2017. This popular parish tradition - which benefits the parish and school, as well as many local charities - would not be made possible without your generous support, including sponsorships. For more information on how you can help sponsor the event, please visit the show web site at www.stchrisladiesguild.org/antique-show. No amount is too small! On behalf of the Ladies Guild, thank you in advance for your contributions.
