Twenty-fourth Sunday in Ordinary Time September 17, 2017

Forgive your neighbor's injustice; then when you pray,

your own sins will be forgiven. -- Sirach 28:2

"I have called You by Name, You are Mine" an invitation to join the journey.

Interested in Becoming Catholic?

Have you ever asked yourself the following questions? ♦ How is the Catholic Christian faith different from other Christian religions? ♦ Will being a member of the Catholic Church make a difference in my life? ♦ Will being a Catholic help me develop and strengthen my relationship with God?

If you have asked yourself any of these questions, the RCIA process will help you answer them. Life is a journey on which a person is constantly learning, growing, and changing. This process is a step in that journey and lays the groundwork, through information and experiences, in helping you decide if you want to be a member of the Catholic faith. The RCIA will provide you the opportunity to ask questions, pray, and experience what is meant by being a Catholic Christian and entering into a relationship with God and the Catholic community.

You may be wondering: Who can be part of the RCIA ? ♦ Someone who has never been baptized. ♦ Someone who has been baptized in another faith tradition, but who wishes to become Catholic. ♦ A person who has been baptized a Catholic, but not fully catechized, that is, not having received their first Holy Communion and/or the Sacrament of Confirmation.

If you have an interest or know of someone who is interested, please contact: Bruce Zorio at [email protected] or 408-269-2226. Ext. 212

Did you know that we have an Online Giving program here at St. Christopher Parish? Our Online Giving pro-gram allows you to donate using your VISA, Mastercard, or bank account. Donations can be made for the Sunday Offering as well as most Second Collections and the Parish Renewal Fund. Why use the Online Program? Because gifts are done electronically you will no longer need to worry about remembering to bring your envelopes to church. It also allows you to use VISA or Mastercard so you will be able to earn your miles or other awards on your credit cards. You can access our secure site by using the link on our parish website at www.SaintChris.com. Thank you in advance for you support of our parish.

Pass It Forward! Over 200 children and young people, 1st through 8th grade, will sign up this fall to learn more about Jesus and the Catholic faith. You can help them learn and grow by becoming a catechist for Faith Formation. With classes offered Sunday mornings and Tuesday afternoons you are almost sure to find a time that fits your schedule. As you nurture the faith of our young, you will learn and grow as well! As one long-time catechist put it, “I learn so much from the chil-dren!” We provide you with training, materials, and support. Classes begin September 10th for Sunday and September 12th for Tuesday. If interested, or for more information, contact Robert Rodrigues, Direc-tor of Religious Education at 408-264-8764 or email [email protected]

“Blessed are the peacemakers……”

Sept. 21 is World Peace Day. We join with peo-ple around the globe who long for a new world of peace. We reclaim our special calling to be instruments of Christ’s peace, ambassadors of reconciliation, blessed peacemakers in a world of war. Resisting war is a scary task; people will get upset. People will defend their right to kill for whatever reason…even in the name of the non-violent Jesus. Why do they support the culture’s wars and injustice ? Because they are scared. Because they have lost faith in the God of peace. Because they do not want to rise. Nei-ther do we. All of us prefer the culture of war and injustice. We have grown comfortable with our First World realities. We like our presidents and generals, we idolize our celebrities and mil-lionaires, we trust the media’s version of reality, their commitment to capitalism, militarism and classism. We have placed our security in our government, its weapons, its version of the truth, its power, its bombs. We know that if we follow the teachings of Jesus all the way, some of us, like Dorothy Day and Oscar Romero, might even be arrested and killed.

Some say it,s just too hard to be peaceful, to make peace, but this is the beginning of the spiritual life. That’s how the journey starts. That’s why we have our sacraments, our Gos-pel, our saints, our community, one another to help each other become more and more prayer-ful, more and more non-violent, more and more the disarming presence of the peacemaking Christ in our world.
