DRIPS RATE MONITORING DEVICE
Department of Biomedical Engineering
Final year
P.Mohanapriya
T.Usharani
The design of a portable, self contained, drips rate monitor which can be easily and quickly attached to the drip chamber of Intravenous (IV) set. The disturbances in the IV set are caused by patient’s adverse movement at a particular moment, emptying of the infusion fluid and air embolism. To overcome the mentioned problem the drips rate monitoring is essential, hence in this paper, the drip rate which can be employed in any assisting therapy system is proposed.

INFRARED TRANSMITTER
• To send infra red light through IR-LED , which is then reflected by any object in front of the sensor
• IR-LED - to detect the IR light that was emitted
• It has an electrical property of Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) which is to produce a voltage difference across its leads when it is subjected to light
• Sensor - IR transmitter and IR receiver to which 1.4V is supplied regulated supply of 9V battery
• When the drops of fluid, obstructs the transmitting light an 1V of change occurs in the receiver which is the required output
• Sensor output - red LED in the sensor board
• In Sensor board LM358 acts as the operational amplifier -which regulates single power supply

DIGITAL COUNTER
Function of digital counter:
• Sensor output - pin 1 of IC4033 as input
• Change in voltage - counts the drops detected
• Displays the output in LCD
