Fellow Redeemed, WD-40, what’s that all about? In 1953 the Rocket Chemical Com-pany began business. Its staff of three set out to create a line of rust-prevention solvents and degreasers. The process was long and involved. It took them 40 attempts to perfect their formula, but they eventually did. Today we know their product as WD-40, which stands for Water Displace-ment, 40th attempt. “WD-40” is how we describe our Lenten journey of faith: “With Dedi-cation, 40 days.” We mark the church season of Lent with a 40 day focus on the passion, suffering and death of our Lord. With dedication we begin Lent on March 5th with Ash Wednesday, a service of Holy Communion and the optional Imposition of Ashes. With dedication we move throughout this 40 day pilgrimmage with Jesus. With dedication we focus our heart and life each Wednesday on such a wondrous love as His. With great dedication our Lord Jesus came from heaven. He entered this world of sin as the Christchild. St Paul says, “And being found in ap-pearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death - even death on a cross! (Philippians 2:8).” With great dedication Jesus came to bring us forgiveness. He yielded Himself to the injustice of a trial and to the sentence of death by crucifixion. He even prayed for His ene-mies as the agony of the cross settled in. With great dedication Jesus re-mained fastened there, not the nails holding Him, but His deep love for you and me. And when His sacrifice for our sins was complete, then and only then, did He declare, “It is finished.” And our salvation was secure. Our forgiveness complete as three days later, God the Father raised His dedicated Son to life and a victory over death! “WD-40” therefore is how we enter Lent. In gratitude that can never be repaid to Jesus, we dedicate ourselves to meditate each Wednesday for what our Savior has accomplished for us. Then we move forward in faith (even beyond those 40 days!), to serve, to share, to sacrifice, so all will know the redeeming, restoring grace of Christ the Lord. Pastor Guelzow

Q: If we like this pastor, can we call him to be our pastor?
A: There is an implicit understanding between the intentional interim pastor and the congregation that they are here for a set amount of time, and they will not be called to be the next pastor. Moreover, they are generally retired pastors and not looking to enter another long-term pastorate.
Q: How soon can he be here?
A: We have already begun the process since the vote on January 10. The next step is to define what we are looking for in this pastor so President Walton can seek to provide a good match for our congregation and needs. We will do this at a Voter’s meeting on Sunday, March 2, at 12:15 in the Ministry Center. From there, President Walton will work to fill the request. The Call Committee will submit a rec-ommendation at another Voter’s meeting. With Messiah congregation approval, and with God’s blessings, the intentional interim pastor could start here as early as late May or early June.
The Call Committee will keep you informed on the status of the process. Any fur-ther decisions on this, or any matter pertaining to the calling of a pastor (interim or permanent), will be brought before the members.
Q: What is the Call Committee working on now?
A: We are diligently working to complete the documents needed for President Walton for the intentional interim pastor process, and gathering statistics and data on the congregation to create a profile of the church and community that is neces-sary and required for calling a permanent pastor.
Call Committee: Please contact any member if you have questions or concerns. You may also send a message through Messiah’s website, under the Call Commit-tee tab.

First Thursday Potluck - March 6th at 6:30 p.m. The first Thursday of every month we invite everyone in the congregation to bring a dish to share. There will be time for fellowship and for us to get to know each other. This is a wonderful opportu-nity for you to invite a friend or neighbor. Bring the whole family for a wonderful night of food and fellowship. ANGEL STITCHES will meet on Sunday, March 9th at 2:00 p.m. in Classroom 1 of the CLC. In addition to our other handcrafted projects, we will be discussing a new, exciting endeavor to begin sewing "pillowcase dresses" for Raye Minardi's next mis-sion trip to the Dominican Republic. These easy-to-sew dresses are a BIG hit with the little (and big) girls there. If you would like to become involved in this outreach, we invite you to join us. (Donations of pillowcases will be appreciated and may be dropped off in the Church office.) Please call Judy Riveiro (961-9471) or Lynn Turke (960-7289) with any questions. Lord, lay some soul upon my heart,
And love that soul through me;
And may I nobly do my part
To win that soul for Thee.

Saturday Night,
March 8th
Prayer Vigil Saturday, March 1st
9:00 a.m. - 10:00 a.m.
We invite you to spend time in prayer with your fellow brothers and sisters in Christ on Saturday, March 1st from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.
The purpose of this Prayer Vigil is to have an intentional time in the sanctuary to go to the Lord with special petitions and prayers, both as a group
and privately as individuals for one hour. Some suggestions to focus on during that hour of prayer include:
● A Lenten journey of faith and repentance as we walk through the season of Lent.
● Our Lord’s guidance as we plan and carry out intentional outreach in our community.
● Our Lord’s Presence in the lives of every member of Messiah as we pray for one
another by name.
● National concerns for the United States.
● Peace in the areas of turmoil, conflict and war in the world.

Call Committee Update
Question: What is this Intentional Interim Pastor thing I keep hearing about?
Answer: An Intentional Interim Pastor is defined in the “Manual for Congregations Engaged in the Call Process” provided by FL-GA District, as: “A pastor who serves the congregation on a full-time basis. This is generally a retired pastor who is will-ing to serve and assist a congregation in a transitional time.”
Q: How is that different from a Vacancy Pastor or a Supply Pastor?
A: A vacancy pastor is defined as “a pastor who is engaged by the congregation to provide pastoral services and coverage for worship on a regular basis.” A supply pastor is “one who confines his ministry to preaching at services or performing other very limited functions…Several supply pastors may take turns in a schedule of preaching duties.”
The Call Committee recommended, and the members motioned and approved on January 10, that we seek an intentional interim pastor. At a later date we will vote on calling the specific pastor.
Q: What benefit is there in calling an intentional interim pastor?
A: This pastor will be here full time, for a set period of time, and will provide a wide range of pastoral services, rather than just leading worship and assisting in other limited functions. Of greater benefit, they will be leading us through the transition from the long and rich service of Pastor Guelzow into a new chapter of our minis-try.
Q: Why is there a need for a transition?
A: Beloved members of our family, Pastor and Lynn Guelzow, will be leaving Mes-siah after 31 years of ministry here and 40 total. It takes time for a church to cele-brate that history and prepare itself to accept the leadership of a new shepherd. The intentional interim pastor is trained to help lead us through, and prepare us for, the transition to a new long-term pastor.

Women of Messiah - LWML The LWML groups met in February and decided to do a project for Lu-
theran World Relief. We will be putting together Personal Care
Kits. These kits are sent to people who have lost everything and need ba-
sic personal care items. It only includes six items: a bath towel (dark color ), two bars of
bath soap, one toothbrush, one sturdy comb and one metal nail clipper. They are very
specific about what they want in the kit so please follow the directions on the form. If
you would like to put together a kit please pick up instructions on the rolling LWML cart
in the narthex of church. Bring your kits to the meeting in March or May. The morning
LWML group will not meet in April. You may also leave your kits on the bottom of the
LWML cart.
The LWML ladies would like to host one of the Lenten suppers with our delicious
soups. We are not sure yet if that will happen or the date so watch the bulletin and we
will let you know if and when the ladies will be hosting one of the suppers.
Mark your calendars for a tentative date for the Tampa Zone Rally. It will be held on
Sat. April 26 at Christ the King, Riverview. More information on the rally will be in the
next newsletter or in the bulletin.
The morning LWML group will meet in March but not in April. We will meet on Tuesday,
March 11 at 10:30 a.m. in the CLC conference room. After a short meeting we plan on
going to Citrus Park Mall and having lunch at BJ's restaurant and then we will go to the
Regal theatres, right in the mall and see the 1:00 movie, "Son Of God." This is sure to be
a good movie. The evening group will meet on Thursday, March 13 at 7:30 at Cathy
Most's house, 7103 Halifax Ct. If you need a ride let Nancy Lemke know and she will pick
you up at Messiah.
The Paint Party was fantastic! We had such a great time and the end result is outstanding. Please make sure to stop by the CLC and see the transformation.
Thank you so much Mark, Christine, Beverly, Teresa, Eric, Don, Jeff, Al, David, Allison, Lorraine, Abby, Keith, Ernie and Melissa for all your hard work. And Thank You Mrs. Polly for providing delicious donuts.
Now that the main part is painted the classrooms and bathrooms really do need some at-tention as well, so save the date MARCH 8th and we can have another Paint Party and get the rest of the building looking beautiful.
Sincerely, Beverly Bakalyar

We would like to invite our teens and entire church family
to join us on Saturday March 22nd
at the AMC Veteran’s
for a special film, “God’s Not Dead.”
Present-day college freshman and devout Christian, Josh Wheaton (Shane Harper), finds his faith challenged on his first day of Philosophy class by the dogmatic and argumentative Professor Radis-son (Kevin Sorbo). Radisson begins class by informing students that they will need to disavow, in writing, the existence of God on that first day, or face a failing grade. As other students in the class begin scribbling the words “God Is Dead” on pieces of paper as instructed, Josh find himself at a crossroads, having to choose between his faith and his future. Josh offers a nervous refusal, provok-ing an irate reaction from his smug professor. Radisson assigns him a daunting task: if Josh will not admit that “God Is Dead,” he must prove God’s existence by presenting well-researched, intellec-tual arguments and evidence over the course of the semester, and engage Radisson in a head-to-head debate in front of the class. If Josh fails to convince his classmates of God’s existence, he will fail the course and hinder his lofty academic goals. With almost no one in his corner, Josh wonders if he can really fight for what he believes. Can he actually prove the existence of God? Wouldn’t it just be easier just to write “God Is Dead” and put the whole incident behind him? GOD’S NOT
DEAD weaves together multiple stories of faith, doubt and disbelief, culminating in a dramatic call to action. The film will educate, entertain, and inspire moviegoers to explore what they really be-
lieve about God, igniting important conversations.
We will release price and time information a little closer to this date. Watch the bulletin for more information on time and cost. If you can’t join us when we are scheduled, we encourage you to find another time to support this movie.

conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then
you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
For by the grace given me I say to every one of you: Do not think of yourself more highly
than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment, in accordance with the faith God has dis-
tributed to each of you. For just as each of us has one body with many members, and these members do not
all have the same function, so in Christ we, though many, form one body, and each member belongs to all the
others. We have different gifts, according to the grace given to each of us. If your gift is prophesying, then
prophesy in accordance with your faith; 7 if it is serving, then serve; if it is teaching, then teach; f it is to en-
courage, then give encouragement; if it is giving, then give generously; if it is to lead, do it diligently; if it is
to show mercy, do it cheerfully.” Romans 12:1-8
Recently, I was lying in bed after I aggravated an old back injury. I was thinking about how an in-jury to one part of my body could leave me so incapable of doing anything with the rest of my
body. Many of us feel this same way when we are ill. A little head cold can keep us from getting anything done. A little stomach discomfort can lay us out for a week. Our bodies are designed as a
whole system when part isn’t acting properly, the whole body suffers.
I was reminded of the above text. Each of us as individuals make up the church or the body of Christ. We each have a unique and special role to play. Each of us has something or can contribute
something that no one else can. No one is more important than anyone else, we are simply all unique and important in our role and function.
Because we are unique, without all of us working together the whole body or the whole church suf-fers. It is like an injured hand. I may still be able to get up and move around but I won’t be operat-
ing at my full potential without all of my parts working, so it is with the church.
God has brought each of us to Messiah because He knows there is something that we can contribute that no one else can. He desires for all of us in our uniqueness to bring about something better for the whole. The body isn’t complete or working properly without each of us contributing what it is
that makes us unique.
For some of us that is a special skill with landscaping or music or art or writing. For others it is car-ing for people or praying or finances. Each of us contributes in a different but equally important
way. As I was lying in bed with my injured back with nothing else to do, I found myself praying a lot. I was reminded that even when I couldn’t “function” I could still be effective in some way.
Praying for others was a gift I could offer without having to go anywhere or do anything.
As we prepare to enter Lent, may each of us be reminded of what Christ has done for us and may we seek out the ways He would have us be our unique selves with our unique functions in the
greater body. May we all work together to accomplish more for God than any of us could on our own. May His church grow and be strengthened as all its equally important members work together
for the common good.
Playgroup will not meet on March 10th due to
Spring Break.
Dear Family,
Lent like any time of year, can be very busy. It can be a time where we are so distracted by everything going on in life that we lose sight of what Christ has done for us.
The theme for Lent this year attempts to help us regain that focus. This year’s theme is Restored in Christ. Lent is a time for us to face our brokenness and turn it over to Christ so that we can be restored by him through the cross.
During the Sundays in Lent, we will be offering a series of Children’s Messages each week. Each
week children will receive a puzzle piece that can be used with a provided family
devotion. We invite families to participate. We hope this devotion and activity can
help you grow in faith this Lenten season and remind you of the brokenness of sin and
our wholeness in Christ. We hope you will join us each week.
Save the date! The next Kid Sit will be
Saturday April 5 from 5-10PM!
