MISSION APPEAL

July 15th and 16thMISSION APPEAL

At the coming weekend liturgies a Pallottine priest, Fr. Manuel Zu-

zarte SAC, will be here to speak to us about the missionary work of the

Pallottines in India. Fr. Manuel is presently serving as Associate Pastor

at St. Andrew Church, Sag Harbor, in the diocese of Rockville Center,

New York. He has worked in India for a number of years before being

assigned to serve in the USA. The Pallottine Fathers and Brothers are spread all around the world;

they are present in 56 different countries all over the world. In India

they have been involved in the work of evangelization for the last 60

years. Recently, they have taken up mission work in Africa too. The help

and support of many generous people all over the world, makes it possi-

ble to continue God’s work. Your own efforts to support the Missions all

over the world are greatly appreciated. Know that when you give to the

Missions, you give to a good cause.

Back-to-School Program

August 5-6 Pick up your tags. August 20 Bring in your backpacks or supplies.

Peggy’s Pantry

July and August can be “lean months” for Peggy’s Pantry because we lose the food drives run by

our local schools, Boy Scouts, and Girls Scouts. Bringing a can of food or a box of food to Sun-

day Mass can really help to alleviate this problem. Thank you for always being so generous.

Our shoppers shop, L.I. Cares and Island Harvest delivers, and you take up the slack. Please bring

one or more items from our needs list to help us prevent shortages for the families we serve.

Thanks to all of you for making our ministry possible!!!

Jelly Cereal

Juice Liquid dish soap

Mayonnaise

Ketchup

We just received $500 from the recycling program. Thank you for bringing your cans to the

recycling bin in the upper parking lot, as you can see, it does make a difference. With the

beginning of the summer season the need to empty the bin is greater. We are in need of

additional help with the empty and return part of this ministry. Please

contact the Outreach office if you think you are able to help. Please help to make the job of our volunteers a little easier by making sure the

bottles and cans have been have been rinsed out. Please place only deposit

bottles and cans in the bin. Thank you to the Bennett and Dennehy families

for coordinating this program.

Linus Ministry

Please remember that this ministry is on a summer hiatus.

It will resume in September.

“Making the Most of Mass”

a Campaign to

Improve Our Song and Prayer

At last September’s “Listening Session” one of the trends that surfaced

was the parishioners’ desire to have a worship aid (e.g., hymnal) that con-

tains the prayers, hymns, and readings for Sunday Mass. We would love

to act on this recommendation and purchase new updated Gather hymnals

that include the Sunday readings, the Mass prayers (which are now on the

cards in the pews) and worship materials needed for Mass -- as well as

other rites and sacraments of the Church.

We hope you agree that having One Hymnal with the readings will assist

parishioners in participating more fully in the liturgy. These new books

will last for many years and will do so much to foster active involvement

in our Sunday Mass.

Our current Gather hymnals are over twenty years old (the parishioners

memorialized all the books at that time!). The cost of the project is close

to $10,000. We can reach our goal and be able to purchase the new hym-

nals if we can “memorialize” most of the 450 new books.

We invite you, over the coming weeks to dedicate one or more of the

books in memory of a loved one from either the past or the present. The

dedication offering per book will be $25.00. And for $100. Five books

can be dedicated. Please use the form in the bulletin and be part of our

Making the Most of Mass campaign!

Please consider “automated giving” as you reflect on support of our

parish family! The fruitful ministries at our parish are exam-

ples of how many of you have answered, and

continue to answer, that call. To ensure such

work can continue requires not only gifts of

time, but also of financial help. I ask you to

prayerfully consider supporting our parish

with electronic donations through Faith

Direct. You can find paper enrollment forms

in the parish office, or you can sign up online at www.faithdirect.net by using our

church code, NY67.

Five-Year Goals for our Parish

as we prepare for our Centenary, 2017-2022 From September 2016 through May 2017, the Pastoral Council studied the results of the Parish

Listening Session (September 2016) and also the Town Hall Meeting (February 2016). Based on

the repeated themes from our parishioners, six general goals are now formed. They will guide the

pastoral and fiscal planning of the parish during the next five years. The Pastoral Plan will bring

us to June 2022, the One Hundredth Anniversary of the founding of our parish.

1. Establish youth ministry in which our young people are an active part of our community, prayer and service.

2. Strengthen the Sunday Eucharist as the heart of our parish community, en-suring worship that is joyful and welcoming.

3. Encourage active participation of everyone in our community, using time and talent in current ministries and new ministries.

4. Develop Faith Formation as a life-long process for children, young families, and adults.

5. Strengthen our services to the needy in our community and diocese, espe-cially through outreach.

6. Develop our stewardship of parish resources, especially finances, to enable

long-range planning for ministries and facilities.

St. John the Baptist Parish Mission Statement Established in 1922, the parish family of St. John the Baptist Church welcomes

and invites all people to our community, especially those in need. Guided by the

Holy Spirit we are sustained by the Sunday Eucharist, the Word of God, and the

Sacraments. All are encouraged to share their time, talent and treasure as we

grow in love through our Catholic faith and the life, death and resurrection of Our

Lord Jesus Christ.

The Pastoral Council and Pastoral Staff

are happy to share

our new Mission Statement and Pastoral Plan!

Let us all work together make our parish of St. John the

Baptist more joyful, welcoming, and alive in Christ!
