PATIENT SAFETY …….must be front and centre at all levels of governance

• Make patient safety the first item on the board agenda to make it an explicit and visible priority

• Articulate a compelling plan to drive patient safety

• Empower clinical leadership and staff engagement

• Ensure standards are monitored and reported against

• Track risks proactively and report against them

ADVENT OF MFTP, UHI etc ……..provides the finance function with a more value added role

• Cost of service needs to be understood by procedure

• Operate effectively in a commissioning environment

• Healthy relationship between the insurance sector and the health system vital

• New skills required – coding, billing, debtor management, cash collection, analytics etc.

INFORMATION FLOWS WILL BE CRITICAL

• Must be integrated & KPI driven

• Clarity on who is responsible for information provision

• Real focus on patient safety and risk information

• Data analytics a core part of the finance service provision
