Harris County Carver Middle School Accelerated Math 7B/8 Contract 2014 – 2015 Student’s Name___________________________________ Grade __________ Date _______________ Curriculum The curriculum for the Accelerated Math 7B/8 is based on the CCGPS which can be found at https://www.georgiastandards.org/Common-Core/Pages/Math-9-12.aspx Textbooks and Materials Students will be issued or have access to the texts and workbooks Georgia Mathematics Grade 7 and Georgia Mathematics Grade 8 by Holt McDougal. Additionally, online access information for the texts and workbooks will be provided to students with the orientation materials received the first days of school. Students may need to purchase supplemental materials (highlighter, pens, notebooks, etc) for this course. General Course Expectations: Each student in Accelerated Math 7B/8 is required to: -complete and submit all assignments (homework, projects, lab reports, etc.) on the due dates. Late work will receive a 20 point deduction per day. -turn in make-up work within 3 days following any absence. (If submitted within 3 days, no penalty will be assessed) -do his/her own work on all assignments, projects, or exams. -return a singed Accelerated Math Academic Contract. Grading Policy (this policy is a guide and may change prior to the school year) Nine Week Grading policy: Class work 30% Homework 20% Test/Quizzes 35% 9 week exam 15% Make-up Work Accelerated Math 7B/8 participants will have three days to make up any worked missed for absences. Probation and Exit Guidelines: If a student's nine weeks grade is below 80 he/she is placed on probation for the following nine weeks. A student-parent-teacher conference may be requested to develop an Individual Academic Intervention Plan, and to develop strategies for success. At the end of the semester, if the average remains below 80, a conference may determine if any additional interventions will change the student’s work habits or if it is appropriate for the student to be exited from his/her accelerated program. ***If a student is exited, their daily academic core schedule will be modified to accommodate state class size requirements and local school needs. 7ACCEL

Accelerated Math 7B/8 is an academically advanced course designed to challenge motivated students to understand rigorous content. This course may require a substantial amount of work outside of class for successful completion.
