As Creative Director with over 15 years’ experience working with a wide range of brands on both the agency and client side, Tim has a strong background in managing clients, staff and companies through creative branding, sales and marketing projects that deliver great results. TITLE: “ Knock Knock. Who’s there?” Tim will talk about his working life as a brand strategist and visual communicator, and how his role sees him involved in projects from horse feeds to hair straighteners – working to make brands stand up, stand out and stand apart.

Micheál McArdle is the General Manager of McArdle Skeath’s one of Ireland’s most successful Logistics and Supply Chain Management Companies. Since joining the company McArdle Skeath have attained numerous accreditations, they hold a Wholesale Distribution Authorisation Licence from the HPRA formally the Irish Medicines Board, multiple licences from the Department of Agriculture including Storage, Transport and Process Licences; as well as being registered with the Irish Aviation Authority as a “Known Consignor”.

TITLE: “That would work if ...” In the last 5 years McArdle Skeath have doubled their warehousing capacity from 10,000 pallet spaces to 20,000 pallet spaces. The judges said, “It became a battle of exceptionality. Jan Van Dijk Jan Van Dijk

Jan is a director of an architectural practice based in Dundalk, Co. Louth. As well as being an architect, he has an MBA from University of Edinburgh and has lectured and taught management and professional practice in UCD. Having worked in London and Dublin for some years he set up practice in Dundalk in 1993. He is also a Governor of the Royal Irish Academy of Music and a director of property investment companies in Poland.

TITLE: “How to climb out of a bucket (even if you don’t succeed the first time!) ”This talk will review the methods used by van Dijk Architects, a small regional firm, to prepare for, survive and then prosper following Irelands property crash. It will discuss some key issues for developing and marketing any business proposition while being based in a location remote from the main action. His company ‘The Local Maker Co’ is a contemporary lifestyle brand, that provides its customer with character and craftsmanship through simple living, handmade and heritage goods. Having studied and worked in London for a number of years he has gained reputation exhibiting with the Design & Craft Council of Ireland in London, Paris, China and New York later this year.

TITLE: “No instructions needed”Last September Benny was named Monaghan’s Best Young Entrepreneur by LEO Monaghan. He looks forward to sharing with you his beard and his boots and his Kickstarter campaign experience, an on-line crowd-funding initiative for creative projects, with his product Whackpack Furniture.

Claire is a registered nutritional therapist and works with individuals and groups to guide them on the road to great health and well-being. She is passionate about the using food to improve health and prevent illness. Previously firmly established in the London rat-race, Claire knows first-hand how diet can take a back seat at the expense of our health. She loves food and gets immense pleasure from preparing meals that are delicious and good for you.

TITLE: “Managing Stress, Beating Fatigue and Boosting Energy”If stress were a drug, it would be banned. Stress is almost an inevitable consequence of running a small business, however, the degree to which stress is harmful, depends on the strength of your system to handle it. During this talk, Claire will explain how stress and fatigue are closely linked and how simple changes to your diet can improve your energy levels and overall health. You’ll leave the session with a list of practical dietary tips you can make to your busy life to improve how you feel.

Jonathan White @SillanStudios Jonathan White

Jonathan White is a 16 year old student Carrickmacross. In 2011 he started up his company “Sillan Studios” which specialises in game development, animation and VFX. The company has won awards including an animation award in the “Future 8” competition, run by the Guardian newspaper in 2014. In 2015, Sillan Studios’ game Recineration (Android, iOS, Windows Phone), won the Intermediate Technology category in the BT Young Scientist. Jonathan also did some VFX work on a recent Warner Bros. film, Ghosthunters. At the moment, Jonathan is focusing closer on the business aspect of the company and is currently developing several new products which will be coming to market soon.

TITLE: “Moving past fear”Fear comes in many different forms and it doesn’t have to be extreme to stop you moving forward in your life or business. Fear can show itself as anxiety, nervousness and worrying; it can lead to helplessness, depression and paralysis. Dealing with fear is much easier when you prepare yourself for it; if you prepare to deal with fear you will be prepared to deal with any situation that you might face.

Seán Love @fwdublin

Seán Love is Executive Director of Fighting Words creative writing centre, which he co-founded with author Roddy Doyle. Since opening in Dublin in January 2009 they have hosted more than 50,000 children and young adults in free creative writing workshops and programmes. Seán was previously Executive Director of Amnesty International Ireland.

Francis McCarron Francis McCarron Francis McCarron currently works in Local Development and is also a registered trainer with Creativity Central. Over the past 30 years, he has worked in a wide variety of jobs (with varying degrees of success) in the private, community & voluntary, public and state agency sectors. He has been a (woeful) farmer, a (marginally better) retailer, community development worker, tutor, trainer, storyteller, social inclusion officer and youth worker. In all roles and in all sectors, he has used creativity to create and design original projects and training programmes.

TITLE: “Are fish scared of candles?”Surviving and thriving in the modern business world requires creativity and innovation. This talk will outline the barriers to creativity and how they can be removed. Want to become more original? Then it’s time to start thinking like an inventor and give all your ideas the IQ test.

Edel is the Marketing Director for Mullan Lighting – a graduate of Business Studies Edel has worked extensively in both the private and Public Sector in a range of Project Management roles ranging from Entrepreneurship to Community Development. Having undertaken a 9-month road trip from London to Australia in 2008/2009 Edel left the nomadic life behind her returning to Dublin and ultimately Monaghan in 2010 to join Mullan Lighting in a Business Development Role.

TITLE: “Darkness Into Light”The pros and cons of building a business during a recession. Established in 2008 to manufacture lighting for Irish Bars at home and abroad, Mullan soon found it needed to transform its business model to cater for a wider range of projects and clientele in order to progress the business beyond a backyard workshop. Now employing 25 people and exporting over 65% of its produce, Mullans products can be seen in hotels, bars and restaurants in over 60 countries worldwide.

Lorna Sixsmith is a blogger and social media user since 2007 and teaching businesses how to use social media for the last four years. Lorna is no stranger to the business world and has combined her business experience with her love of teaching working with small and medium businesses, tailoring the training to their needs so they get the most out of the social media platforms they chose to use. Lorna is married to a dairy farmer and has written a non-fiction humorous book entitled ‘”Would You Marry a Farmer?” which was inspired by her most popular post on her personal blog Irish Farmerette.

TITLE: “When the planets align!!”Social media can create opportunities for you and your business, and in order to grab them you may have to step outside your comfort zone and think outside the box. In the space of two weeks in May 2013, Lorna Sixsmith had an idea for a book, attended a talk on crowdfunding and saw a blog post go viral. Seeing all her planets align, she took the plunge. She ran a successful crowdfunding campaign, wrote and self-published her first book, and secured four national radio interviews and numerous print mentions - all in six months. It wouldn’t have been possible without social media - and grabbing those opportunities.

TITLE: “Coffee Vs Gangs – adventures in entrepreneurship in the most dangerous country in the world” For the past eight months Gary has been writing about the progress of a training course for young disadvantaged youth in Honduras in Central America, the most dangerous country in the world outside a war zone. Set up by the coffee company Kenco, the course aims to give 20 students an opportunity to develop a future in the coffee industry by teaching them the agricultural and business skills required to setup, manage and run a small coffee farm or other business, as an alternative to gang membership. Gary has recently returned from Honduras, working with the students and experiencing first-hand the difficulties faced getting a business started in a country with over 60 per cent unemployment and the results of ten years of violent drug wars.
