Both are issues common to all Yolo County communities. Annamarie Flynn of Mutual Housing at Spring Lake will explain the services and community building programs that Mutual Housing of Spring Lake offers for agricultural workers with low incomes. Mutual House at Spring Lake is part of Mutual House of California, whose mis- sion is to develop, operate and advocate for sustainable housing that builds strong com- munities through resident participation and leadership development. Mutual Housing at Spring Lake provides 62 apartments and townhomes, supportive services, and community building programs for agricul- tural workers. US Department of Agriculture Rural Development rental subsidies help to make monthly rent more affordable. The location is less than a half-mile south of Pioneer High School and Woodland Community College, and within a half-mile north of a public park. This community opened in February 2015. Additionally, Mutual Housing at Spring Lake is the first nationally certified zero net energy rental housing in the nation. It is the first oppor- tunity in the nation that renters have to live in zero net energy homes. They produce as much energy as they use through integration of energy efficient design and renewable energy genera- tion, such as solar energy produced at Mutual Housing at Spring Lake. Spring Lake Elementary School Principal Robyn Miller will talk about the design and building of Woodland’s newest school and its STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) focus. Construction will be completed in the spring, ready for students in August, 2018. Miller comes to Woodland to create a school that is innovative and focused on preparing stu- dents to be successful in 21st Century Skills. She has been an educator for 25 years, 15 as a princi- pal. She is currently getting her certification in STEAM (science, technology, engineering, art, and math) from University of San Diego. Lunch Price Reductions Continue — $12 Page 7
