Words of Thanks!

I am grateful to all those who assisted in making our Holy Week celebrations the truly uplifting spiritual experiences they were. Thanks to our priests and deacons for leading and preaching during each of these celebrations. Our Music Ministry under the fine direction of Alfred Allongo provided a rich selection of hymns and instruments, including our Adult Bell Choir. How grateful I am for all of our other liturgical ministers: ushers, Eucharistic Ministers and Lectors for faithfully fulfilling their ministries. Thank you Eileen and Richard Tucci, and your helpers, for beautifully decorating our church throughout Lent, Holy Week and Easter. A special word of gratitude to Ann Ellingham, her team of adults and the Youth of our Parish for the inspirational Silhouette Stations performed for us on Good Friday.

“CELEBRATION OF THE EASTER SACRAMENTS” In the next several weeks we will have the opportunity to celebrate the Easter Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist with the youth of our parish. There are five First Eucharist Masses scheduled. We can sense the excitement of the children as they prepare for this most wonderful opportunity: receiving Jesus in the Sacrament of the Holy Eucharist for the first time. We join their parents in the sense of pride we have for each to them as they take this important step. On May 22nd, Bishop Andrzej will confer the Sacrament of Confirmation on our young parishioners who have undergone a two-year period of classroom instruction, the completion of service projects and written reflections on the Sunday homily and its application to their lives. The Gifts of the Holy Spirit that they will receive at Confirmation will help them as they join us in bearing witness to others of our faith in Jesus. I thank their parents for encouraging the growth and development of their children in the Catholic faith. I am particularly grateful to the catechists and our Faith Formation Staff for the wonderful work they did in preparing these children for the celebration of the sacraments and helping to form them into “intentional disciples” of Jesus today. Please keep these young people and their families in your prayers. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * “UPDATE ON OUR CAPITAL CAMPAIGN PROJECTS” As of Monday, April 24th, work has begun to create a mock-up of the planned renovation of Delaney Hall. The idea of a mock-up is to establish a model for the final design of the hall. The advantage of creating a mock-up is that it gives us the opportunity to make any changes or adjustments prior to the start of the renovation project. After any adjustments have been finalized we will invite several companies to give us proposals as to the cost and timeframe for the completion of this renovation based on the specifications and final design. I will then need to write for permission from the Diocese to proceed. They have been working closely with us from the start. It is our hope that the renovation of Delaney Hall will be completed before the start of our parish Carnival in late July. If not, we still have several weeks prior to the start of next year’s programs to complete the renovation of the hall. I will keep you posted as to the progress being made.

Sunday, February 2, 2014 The Third Sunday of Easter

There will be a second collection on May 5th and May 6th in support of Catholic Schools and the

Tomorrow’s Hope Foundation.

Tomorrow’s Hope provides tuition assistance to families with students who would like to attend a

Catholic elementary school, but just need a little help to make that happen. The Foundation has

provided almost 2 million dollars-a-year to offset tuition costs, but the actual student need

approaches 6 million dollars. The money that you give to the second collection next weekend will

help us expand on the Catholic schools in our area, their great academic performance, and will

assure that the schools remain a place where students can learn and live their faith.

Sustaining Catholic education is vital to the future of our society and to our Church. Today’s

students are our future. They are truly tomorrow’s hope. Thank you for all you do to support our

children and our schools, and thank you in advance for your generous donation next weekend.
