Dear Parents and Caregivers After the Phase 3 announcements by the Premier of WA, Inglewood Primary School is close to returning back to normal. Many activities that were restricted are now able to be re-introduced. The activities that have been reinstated are, sports training, before school skipping, canteen, vac swim, camps, work placements, choir, P&C and School Board meetings and third party visitors being able to access the school grounds. The requirement for all these activities is that there must be less than 100 people in an indoor area and 300 people in an outdoor area. Cleaning requirements will remain the same and we will continue to employ the extra cleaner to clean and disinfect high-contact surfaces that are frequently used by students and/or staff. Playgrounds and play equipment will continue to be cleaned daily on all three school sites. SUPER HEROES DRESS UP DAY Last Friday Inglewood Primary School was full of super heroes. Students dressed up in the theme of someone you look up to”. We had many students dressed as their own Mums and Dads, nurses, vets, doctors and many other essential workers, as well as numerous character super heroes like Catboy”. The whole school was very excited to go outside the school grounds after lunch to wave and send our best wishes to our Year 2 superhero Tom D. There were some fantastic costumes and $1075.80 was raised from this event. All the money raised will go to the Leukaemia Foundation of Western Australia. This Foundation supports medical research that delivers advancements in treatments, encourages the careers of promising scientists, discovers new diagnostics and novel therapies, and gives Australians access to global clinical trials. IGNITE PROGRAMME Congratulations also to one of our Year 5 students, Tim M, who was presented with an award by Katy Brown from Awards WA for his work in the Ignite programme which is a junior version of the Duke of Edinburgh awards. This is a wonderful achievement and recognition for some of his voluntary work in the community. Kind Regards, Janine Bersan, Principal. 12 June 2020 Issue 9

Dear Parents and Caregivers

After the Phase 3 announcements by the Premier of WA, Inglewood Primary School is close to returning back

to normal. Many activities that were restricted are now able to be re-introduced.

The activities that have been reinstated are, sports training, before school skipping, canteen, vac swim,

camps, work placements, choir, P&C and School Board meetings and third party visitors being able to access

the school grounds. The requirement for all these activities is that there must be less than 100 people in an

indoor area and 300 people in an outdoor area.

Cleaning requirements will remain the same and we will continue to employ the extra cleaner to clean and

disinfect high-contact surfaces that are frequently used by students and/or staff. Playgrounds and play

equipment will continue to be cleaned daily on all three school sites.

SUPER HEROES DRESS UP DAY

Last Friday Inglewood Primary School was full of super heroes. Students dressed up in the theme of

“someone you look up to”. We had many students dressed as their own Mums and Dads, nurses, vets,

doctors and many other essential workers, as well as numerous character super heroes like “Catboy”. The

whole school was very excited to go outside the school grounds after lunch to wave and send our best wishes

to our Year 2 superhero Tom D.

There were some fantastic costumes and

$1075.80 was raised from this event. All the

money raised will go to the Leukaemia

Foundation of Western Australia. This

Foundation supports medical research that

delivers advancements in treatments,

encourages the careers of promising scientists,

discovers new diagnostics and novel therapies,

and gives Australians access to global clinical trials.

IGNITE PROGRAMME Congratulations also to one of our Year 5 students, Tim M, who was presented

with an award by Katy Brown from Awards WA for his work in the Ignite

programme which is a junior version of the Duke of Edinburgh awards. This is a

wonderful achievement and recognition for some of his voluntary work in the

community.

Kind Regards, Janine Bersan, Principal.

ATTENDANCE

Parents are still encouraged to keep students at home if they are unwell. Students should not be presenting

at school with symptoms of illness and we would request that parents continue to keep students at home in

these situations. To date, it appears that parents have been very diligent in notifying the school of the

reasons for student absences which, of course, is important for the accuracy of our records. The different

means for notifying the school of a student absence were included in the last newsletter but as a reminder

they are:

Connect. An absentee note can be sent from the home screen but it is only available when you log in via a browser and is not available from the app.

The Smartlink App by selecting Absent Email - the school can be emailed directly using our new absentee email address

([email protected]) or your child’s teacher can be emailed directly.

At school

Some of the strategies that you can try at school include:

promoting the canteen strategy at parent and community meetings

supporting the school’s efforts to promote healthy food and drink choices

in the canteen

researching and discussing different ways to fund raise in the school with

a focus on healthier foods.

suggest appropriate fun day treats through your parent groups or school

executive.

approaching your child’s school and volunteering to establish a vegetable

garden that supplies produce to the school canteen, for use in teaching

and learning and/ or for distribution to students.

At home Strategies that you can try at home include:

substituting sugary drinks with water at home and in lunchboxes. Adding slices of fresh fruit, herbs or

vegetables to the water jug in the refrigerator adds to the taste especially during transition periods.

including children from an early age in meal planning and preparation. Planning meals together,

compiling shopping lists, including children in the shopping trip and allowing children to assist in the

preparation and cooking of meals spikes interest, motivation and creates healthier eating options.

encouraging older children and young people to plan a dinner menu for a day with support to compile a

shopping list, purchase and prepare meals

beginning the journey by planning a healthy eating day together once a week, fortnight or month.

consulting children as to the contents in their school lunches and allowing them to assist in shopping

and preparation where possible.

planning and creating a small garden at home for growing fruit and vegetables. The greater the

responsibility and participation given to children the more likely they are to eat what they have helped to

grow.

modelling good eating habits at home and limiting access to the type and amounts of highly processed

foods available such as chips, chocolate, lollies and biscuits.

providing healthy snacks such as fruit and vegetable wedges on an open platter.

visiting the local shops and supermarkets and talking to your child about the foods being offered for

sale and their value. The Healthy Food Finder will assist in working out the nutritional value of foods

that do not display the Health Star Rating (HSR).

talking to your children about food sources and how the food they eat reaches the table.

focusing on the outside areas of the supermarket when shopping. These are the areas where fresh

foods, meats and dairy products are more likely to be on display.
