December 1, 2017 Dear Parents and/or Guardians, Thank you to all the families that met with us last week regarding your students’ progression towards the goals established earlier in the year. That time is invaluable and crucial to the continued growth of our children. In March, we will have another opportunity to meet and collaborate about our students’ growth. Goal setting and achievement data are crucial to long-term student growth, and the same is true for schools. Developing school goals and analyzing achievement data are important steps to take each and every year, and vital in the long-term success of a school. At Prairieview, we spend an entire year looking at and developing school improvement goals. We use national and local assessments as well as best practices to develop our goals. We then design our professional development around those goals to best meet the needs of all students. Our school improvement plan is accessible on our school website and is updated often. Our school’s achievement data is shared many different ways throughout the year. During our conferences many of our local assessments will be shared with you to highlight student growth. As for the national assessments, the Illinois Interactive Report Card is a wonderful tool for all parents to see how local schools are performing from year to year. You can access our school’s report card at http://illinoisreportcard.com/ . Type in the name of our school and much of our data will be available to you. A new element of the interactive report card is the 5Essentials Survey. This survey is given out every year to community members and staff, with the most recent survey opening next week. This data goes beyond annual testing and takes a look at how the staff and community feel about the school. I encourage you take the survey and share your thoughts about our school. More information regarding the specifics of the survey will be sent home next week. Finally, the interactive report card will show you the “fast facts” about our school. These facts are unique to every school and highlight the dynamics that comprise our school and student-population. As a result of some of these dynamics, our school has recently become a school-wide Title 1 School. This qualifies us to receive a portion of our district’s Title 1 funds to better support students in both reading and math. I encourage everyone to take some time to review our school improvement action plan and our interactive report card data. If you have any questions or suggestions for improvement, please do not hesitate to contact me at 847.543.4230 or [email protected] .

Sinceramente,

Vince Murray

PV PTO Updates We at the PTO hope everyone enjoyed their break and was able to spend time with family and friends! We are thankful to everyone who was able to donate or help with the teacher dinner; the teachers had so much food leftover that we were able to reserve it all the second day of conferences for lunch! We have such a great community and couldn’t spoil our staff and students without your help! We are excited to announce our first FAMILY MOVIE night featuring Moana! We will be showing this amazing movie on Friday, December 8th at 6:30pm at Prairieview! Doors open at 6pm and we will have concessions and spirit wear for sale, so bring a blanket and wear some comfy clothes to watch with all your friends! Our next late start is Wednesday, December 13th, which also happens to be our Something’s Brewing Brunch in downtown Grayslake! Unlike our traditional family dinner nights we decided to do a morning brunch to accommodate all our families who might like taking advantage of a hot cup of coffee and some amazing muffins at a local favorite business! This brunch will benefit Prairieview through your purchases from 7am-10am, so take advantage of the late start and take the kids for hot coco and muffins! NO PTO meeting this month, see you in January! Please contact us with any questions: www.prairieviewpto.com

Engaging Presentations..... -It ’s a Polymer Planet!

Polymers are everywhere! Scientists and inventors use polymers to make things you use every day! We eat food from them, drink out of them, sit on them, play with them, and wear them.....Come learn about what polymers are, what cool things can be done with them, and be a polymer Scientist for a day. You will even make your very own polymer creation to take home!

-Water Races

In this hands-on session, students will race to move volumes of water from one container to another. We will compete in teams to solve various challenges and problems. Along the way, we will discover the science and engineering we use every day to move water and other liquids.

- Intergalactic Bingo

Have you ever wondered how the universe works? Learn about the solar
