EASTER COLLECTION

The Easter collection is for our 628 active and senior priests who have dedicated their lives in faithful service to God and His Church. Remember priests such as Fr. John Connelly who have made a meaningful difference in your life, and consider honoring him/them with a generous gift to the Clergy Health and Retirement Trust. Our priests have dedicated their lives to serving the Catholic faithful here in the Archdiocese of Boston; now, it is our turn to care for them in their time of need. Thank you for your prayers and support of this critical effort.

Happy Easter! Rejoice! He is risen! Alleluia!

Michelle Solomon, Director of Religious Ed.

CONFIRMATION & YOUTH MINISTRY

PROGRAM

He is Risen, Alleluia! On this Easter Sunday, I am reminded of the beautiful lyrics in the song “Christ is Risen”, by Catholic artist Matt Maher,

Christ is risen from the dead

Trampling over death by death

Come awake, come awake!

Come and rise up from the grave!

CHRIST IS RISEN!!! Christ has defeated death by HIS death. He was born to die—for us! During the Lenten Season we received ashes to remind us that we live in the world, but are not of the world, that we need to live for Christ and heaven. We fasted to unite our sufferings with Christ and help us become detached of the things of this world. We prayed for the grace to do so and to ask Christ to show us the areas in our lives that need fixing. We gave alms to remind us that we are called to be the hands and feet of Christ. We had these past 40 days to die to ourselves, now during these next 50 days of Easter Christ is calling us to awake and rise with Him~ to LIVE with and for Him! May we imitate Christ and trample the death of sin and RISE anew!! Happy Easter!!

A WORD FROM FATHER JOHN SASSANI

EASTER 2015

Happy Easter to all of you! On behalf of the members of the Staff of Sacred Heart Parish and of Our Lady Help of Christians Parish, I want to wish you and your families a most Blessed Easter! These days of Holy Week and Easter are filled with awe, joy and peace! Awe, because we are celebrating the central mystery of our faith: the Resurrection of Jesus Christ over death. This Victory that Christ has accomplished over sin and death is the center of our faith and the source of our hope. The Resurrection is the center of our faith because everyone and everything that needs to be transformed in our lives and in our world can be transformed, and, in truth, is being transformed by the Risen Christ. When I entered Saint John’s Seminary in 1972, I bought a poster for my room

that meant a great deal to me at that time, and has continued to claim my heart ever since. The saying on the poster read: “Because You ascended into Heaven after You descended into Hell, You have so filled the Universe in every direction, Lord Jesus, that it is henceforth blessedly impossible for us to escape You!” The Lord Jesus, raised from the dead, is not only seated at the right hand of the Father in his Kingdom, He is filling the universe in every direction – and making all things new! Christ is making new all those who are being baptized this Easter around the World. Christ is transforming the hearts and minds of all those who are in turmoil, suffering from illness, feeling overwhelmed by confusion and discouragement, and drawing near to death. In other words, Christ alone is the source of our hope! As that awareness enters our minds and hearts, we receive the gift of abiding peace! May the Joy of the Risen Lord be with all of us, not only throughout the Easter Season, but may His peace be with us all the days of our lives! In your name, I want to thank all those on the staff of our parishes, and those who generously assisted them, in making the liturgies of Holy Week and Easter Sunday so beautiful – the musicians, the choir members, the ministers of the Word and of the Eucharist, the altar servers, the greeters and ushers, and anyone who has helped us celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord. I want to welcome, especially, those who may be visitors at Sacred Heart Parish or at Our Lady Help of Christians Parish this Easter. If you are seeking a deeper friendship with Christ, you are always welcome here! My prayer for all of you is that as the Risen Lord fills the Universe in every direction, He will also fill your hearts with this new life and peace always. A Blessed Easter to you all!

SIGNINGS

Can we be that “other disciple” in the Gospel of John, who “saw and believed”?!!! Hopefully our Lenten journey has helped us to discover and realize what exactly has been preventing us from believing and living in our faith. We have been so greatly dependent on tangible things to help us see things first and then believe. That has been our comfort zone because we feel that once we see things, we feel confident and safe enough. Why is that? It is because we could not face the unknown, which can be fear or our weaknesses. Someone once warned me not to discuss “bad things” and that we must focus only on “good and positive things”. I wonder if we do not even discuss bad things, then how do we become stronger whenever bad things suddenly happen to us? Easter is the ultimate goal for all of us once we are able to overcome our trials and tribulations, like Jesus had done through his Passion. Without a doubt, Jesus learned so much from his Passion experience because of his human side. The “other disciple” was indeed a strong person of faith, just because he knew and trusted in God that trials and tribulations can be overcome with hope and strength especially after seeing Jesus' brutal death. Because of that hope and strength, he was able to “see and believe” that Jesus had risen three days after his death. There is no doubt that we can be like this “other disciple” only if we are able to open our hearts and minds to God, who we can't see in a physical form.

In Christ, Fr. Shawn
