Today’s Readings—What’s the truth Jesus comes to bear witness to in this last Gospel of the Church’s year? It’s the truth that in Jesus, God keeps the promise He made to David – of an ever-lasting kingdom, of an heir who would be His Son, “the first born, highest of the kings of the earth” (see 2 Samuel 7:12-16; Psalm 89:27-38). Today’s Second Reading, taken from the Book of Revelation, quotes these promises and cele-brates Jesus as “the faithful witness.” The reading hearkens back to Isaiah’s prophecy that the Messi-ah would “witness to the peoples” that God is re-newing His “everlasting covenant” with David (see Isaiah 55:3-5). But as Jesus tells Pilate, there’s far more going on here than the restoration of a temporal monar-chy. In the Revelation reading, Jesus calls Himself “the Alpha and the Omega,” the first and last let-ters of the Greek alphabet. He’s applying to Him-self a description that God uses to describe Him-self in the Old Testament – the first and the last, the One Who calls forth all generations (see Isaiah 41:4; 44:6; 48:12). “He has made the world,” today’s Psalm cries, and His dominion is over all creation (see also John 1:3; Colossians 1:16-17). In the vision of Daniel we hear in today’s First Reading, He comes on “the clouds of heaven” – another sign of His divinity – to be given “glory and kingship” forever over all nations and peoples. Christ is King and His Kingdom, while not of this world, exists in this world in the Church. We are a royal people. We know we have been loved by Him and freed by His blood and transformed into “a Kingdom, priests for His God and Fa-ther” (see also Exodus 19:6; 1 Peter 2:9). As a priestly people, we share in His sacrifice and in His witness to God’s everlasting covenant. We belong to His truth and listen to His voice, wait-ing for Him to come again amid the clouds. Family Preparation for Sundays

Sunday, November 25—To be saved, follow Je-sus, not the world or your feelings or other peo-ple’s feelings or “happiness.” The world will not save your soul. Your feelings can mislead you or others. Happiness can be made an idol but won’t save you. Only Christ can save you. Follow Him. Sunday, December 2—Jesus continues talking about the end times. He warns that carousing, drunkenness and the anxieties of daily life can dis-tract us from being ready. What keeps you from prayer? What keeps you from the confessional? No excuse will satisfy these questions. NOTHING should keep you from prayer and the confessional!

Adoration of Our Lord Spend One Hour With Him

In order to resume Adoration in Church on Mon-days and Tuesdays, it is imperative that at least 2 persons per hour are scheduled. This follows the norms for Adoration but also offers a safer envi-ronment for adorers. Sign up for an hour on Monday or Tuesday or

both to spend with Jesus. Gather 2 or 3 of your friends or family mem-

bers and plan to attend an hour together. If your schedule varies, sign up as a substitute.

You will be contacted if someone scheduled is ill or has an emergency to see if you can help.

Can’t commit to a particular hour? You’re still welcome to come as your schedule allows.

To commit to an hour between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. on Mondays or Tuesdays, please call the parish office at 913-299-3370. Rachel Davis, Coordina-tor, will confirm your time with you. An hour with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament will enhance your relationship with Him and bring untold graces to you and to our parish. God bless you.

the Church which will assist families in our parish this Christmas season. If you haven't selected an angel yet, please do so this weekend. Gifts are due by December 2 to allow time for distribution. Please return your unwrapped gift with the angel attached and place them in the boxes at each en-trance. Thank you for your generosity this Christmas season! “God’s Little Green Acre” Seminarian Support You are invited to join Catholics across the Archdi-ocese in giving thanks for our seminarians, and show your support as they strive to answer God’s call to the priesthood. Donations will be divided among our seminarians this Christmas to help them pay for textbooks and living expenses. They greatly ap-preciate these gifts since they have no income. For details, call Melanie, 913-647-0303 or email [email protected]. Mail donations to: Vocation Office, 12615 Parallel, Kansas City, KS 66109.
