Faith Formation News

For all of our First Communion/Confirmation families the date of the ceremony will be Sunday, April 24, 2016 at 2:00pm with Bishop Olmsted. Please mark your calen-dars now with these dates for two mandatory rehears-als. First Communion rehearsal will be Monday, April 18th from 6-7:30pm in the Church and Confirmation re-hearsal, with sponsor, will be on Saturday, April 23rd from 10:00-11:30am also in the Church. Elementary Faith Formation classes resume this week. All First Communion children and their families will be receiving a letter in the next week concerning the Re-treat and Parent meeting and family dinner on Saturday, February 13, 2016 from 11:30-6:00pm. Please make this retreat a priority for your children as it is a big part of their preparation for Confirmation and First Communion. Sacrament classes are now closed. Registration for all other classes is ongoing through the year. All Catholic School students needing Sacrament Preparation need to be registered and begin classes this week. The fee will be $35.00. They only need to attend the second semes-ter. As always, if you have any questions, comments or con-cerns about Elementary Faith Formation, Sacrament Preparation (Elementary, Middle or High School) or Adult Confirmation, please contact me at [email protected] or call me at the Parish Office, 480-661-9843 Ext. 309. God’s Blessings, Kathie

Baptism of the Lord

"After all the people had been baptized and Jesus also had been baptized and was praying, heaven was opened." What a treat to be in that crowd! Just imagine the experience of witnessing this manifestation of divinity! To SEE the Holy Spirit "in

bodily form like a dove" and to hear the voice that "came from heaven" announcing Jesus' true identity. Don't we all long for this kind of miraculous clarity? Wouldn't it do wonders for our faith if we had such unmistakable certainty about who Jesus

really is? It's easy to imagine that the first Christians had it easier than we do. They got to be with Jesus in person, and to witness the miracles that went along with his years on

earth. Because of this, we can quickly forget the benefits we enjoy that they did not.

We live on the other side of the Resurrection, for example. The first followers of Christ believed in him BEFORE he rose from the dead. We, on the other hand, have

the confidence of knowing that this man literally conquered death. We also have two millennia of Christian witness through the saints to pull upon. The first Christians had no idea what this new religion would produce, how many people would embrace it, or how it would change the world for the better. We know that Christianity has been

fruitful beyond measure. Today's Gospel informs us that it was only after they were baptized that the people witnessed the opening of heaven. Even Jesus himself was baptized before he heard

this earthly confirmation of his heavenly origin. We who have been baptized, follow-ing the example of Christ, also have "access" to the voice of God. In the silence of our hearts, and through God's word in the Bible (another advantage we enjoy), heav-

en is "opened" for us as well.

1/11 - "#Word of the Lord" (Monday from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Parish Hall) - Come and join us for our Edge kick-off event in the Parish Hall on Monday at 6pm! This will be our

Spring kick-off event! This event will mark the beginning of our Semester on "Scripture." Hope to see you all there!

1/25 - "Calm in the Storm" (Monday from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Parish Hall) - Why do you think God allows storms in your life? How did Noah handle his storms? What can you learn

from his experiences?

2/1 - "Fake Out!" (Monday from 6pm to 7:30pm in the Parish Hall) - What does it mean to be popular? Why is popularity so important for some? Does popularity make a person a

better Catholic?

Shannon Hards, Director of Youth Ministry

1/10 - "Light Up Your Life" (After the 11am Mass in the Teen Room) - Come and join us for Life Teen after the 11am Mass in the Teen Room! This will be our Spring kick-off event! This event is the beginning of our Semester on "The

Person of Christ." Hope to see you all there!

1/24 - "Emmanuel" (After the 11am Mass in the Teen Room) - Who is Jesus? How can he be both man and God? Why did He choose to share in our human experience? How does this affect your relationship with Him?

1/31 - "Love Thy Neighbor" (After the 11am Mass in the Teen Room) - Do

you love ALL of your neighbors? Do you ever put conditions on your love? How do you defend and respect EVERY human life?
