Fundraising Brick’s Qualifications and Experience
Company History
Fundraising Brick has been laser engraving bricks for seventeen years. In fact, Laser
Light Technologies, Inc. was the first company to develop and patent the process of
laser engraving on bricks. Having created this technology, our developments over the
years have made us extremely reliable in processing engraved bricks with efficiency and
accuracy. Our extensive experience enables Fundraising Brick to provide a superior
product at a very competitive price.
Fundraising Brick was established in 1996, at the time a division of Laser Light
Technologies, Inc., and was founded based on the patented process of laser marking
bricks, filed under patent number 5,554,335. In the past few years, this industry has
become very competitive. Several companies have entered the market place in an
attempt to offer brick laser engraving services. However, Fundraising Brick holds patent
# 5,554,335 for the laser vitrified brick technology and has cross licensed the
technology to one other company. No other firm besides the patent holders of patent
#’s 5,554,335 and 6,064,034 should be offering laser engraved bricks. Through
mistake, oversight, or perhaps negligence, some companies are utilizing our patented
technology without the proper license. To avoid patent infringement, please ask
fundraisers to supply their patent or license information.
Personal Bio
My name is Jennifer Stemmley, and I have recently purchased the founding division for
laser marking bricks from Laser Light Technologies, Inc. The new company name is
Fundraising Brick LLC. Having been employed with Laser Light Technologies for over 17
years, the last five years of my employment with the company I held the position of
Quality Engineer. When Frank Hannan, owner of Laser Light Technologies, Inc. decided
that he was selling the Brick Division, I was more than excited to take over this division
and bring the company to a new level. My lifelong dream has been to own and operate
a business. I have worked on multiple types of different laser systems and have a vast
knowledge of the brick laser systems used to engrave the bricks. I was involved in every
aspect of the brick division during my employment at Laser Light. In 2008, I obtained
ISO 9001-2000 Certification for Laser Light Technologies, Inc. During my employment
with Laser Light, I received Lean Six Sigma Green Belt and Black Belt training. Through
ASQ, I obtained my Lean Six Sigma Green Belt Certification.

“Hi, Jennifer! We absolutely LOVED all the brick work you did for us. This was quite a project for us and it made us a lot of money to help with a new room in our backyard

Attentive, Sharp, Engaged & Helpful
“I first approached Fundraising Brick inquiring about a quote on brick engraving for a fundraiser my organization was doing for Mother's Day. The initiative had been started
by another colleague who left for another job and had not passed the task on, leaving the project untouched for about a month or so. Needless to say, by the time I picked up
the assignment we were on a time crunch... From the very beginning, Karen and her associates at Fundraising Brick were attentive,
sharp, engaged, and helpful. Karen understood that we were on limited time and sprang
into action, guiding me through the intricacies of our lengthy order. Since this was our first time embarking on this type of project, I needed a little guidance and Karen was
incredibly helpful, never seeming frustrated or irritated, a rarity in customer service

these days. She tolerated our last minute orders and corrections with grace and
patience. Not only was her manner helpful, she got the job done fast and with proficiency, allowing us to organize a successful fundraiser. As an organization, focusing
on the empowerment of women, our brick engraving and garden dedication ceremony was especially poignant on Mother's Day as we and our donors honored the women who
have made a difference in our lives. Fundraising Brick helped us make that happen. We now have a revamped garden and a gorgeous brick patio in front of our
Administrative Building where our neighbors and donors may find sanctuary, take time for memorial, or even just have lunch or visit with a friend.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my experience with Fundraising Brick and look forward to working with them again!”

Courteous & Friendly "It was a true pleasure to work with your company. Everyone I spoke with or emailed
was prompt, courteous, and friendly. I look forward to working with you again in the future."
Pat Hall, Greyhound Friends, Inc. Hopkinton, MA
A Steady Inflow of Brick Orders
“Our memorial is called the Path of History and to date we have cleared over $10,000 profit on our venture. The bricks are placed on concrete pads with 12 to 15 bricks
mortared to each. The pads are lined up to form a path in the Museum front yard
passing various artifacts, flowers and ending under a beautiful Desert Willow tree. After the initial flurry of brick orders we have found that as visitors come by, or members
come through, we have a steady inflow of requests for more bricks each month. We can truthfully say, that this project, with the engraving and bricks from your
company has been one of the most successful and ongoing projects we have undertaken in the past several years. It sure beats cookbooks and bake sales as a fund raiser.....By
a long shot...” Vicki Middleworth, Path of History - Kern River Valley
Wofford Heights, CA

graphics, is exactly what we needed to get out project started.

helped us to get our brick project off the ground and begin to realize that our project
goal was going to become a reality. We have already sold over 400 bricks, and we anticipate that our goal of selling 2700
bricks will be accomplished. That will be enough to build our planned life size bronze memorial for our fallen police officers and with your continued help and support, we will
never forget the officers who have paid the ultimate price for protecting our community. Once again, thank you, the staff at Fundraising Brick. Without you, our dream would not

Fundraising Brick LLC guarantees the laser engraving for the life of the brick. Please see
the attached sheet on Independent Lab Testing.
Fundraising Brick warrants, through its Limited Lifetime Warranty, that its patented brick
laser engraving processes will be of good quality and workmanship and will not fade,
chip, oxidize, peel or separate from the brick, paver or tile for the life of the surface of
the engraved brick, paver or tile. Fundraising Brick requires that the brick, paver or tile
manufacturer meet all ASTM (American Standards of Testing Materials) standards for
quality, durability and longevity. This warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of
any laser engraving processes onto a brick, paver or tile meeting ASTM standards. Any
laser engraving process that prove(s) defective will be repaired or replaced by
Fundraising Brick provided that such defect is due to faulty material or workmanship on
the part of Fundraising Brick and not the result of tampering, vandalism, misuse, abuse,
improper installation or maintenance misapplication, natural disaster or acts of God,
excluding normal environmental conditions such as rain, sleet, snow and freeze/thaw
conditions.
Laser Engraving vs. Sandblasting
Sandblasting was first patented in the late 1900s and has had many uses over the decades in a variety of industries. Present day brick sandblasting is a multi-step process
where a stencil is created first. Then the stencil is applied to the brick and placed in a chamber where an abrasive material is shot out of a high-powered machine to “blast
out” the brick material. The removed brick material creates a deep crevice that is later filled with a contrasting epoxy or paint to make the mark stand out against the brick’s
surface.
When you first get your new sandblasted brick, it will be beautiful. Initially, the design and the lettering will be crisp and clean. The contrasting epoxy/paint-filled mark will
105 Industrial Drive Hermann, MO 65041 PH 855-BRICKS4U (855-274-2574) PH 573-486-5515 FAX 636-600-5352 [email protected] [email protected] www.fundraisingbrick.com
stand out against the surface of the brick. However, the filler will begin to deteriorate
after even a season’s worth of exposure to extreme heat or cold, the sun, rain or snow. If you have an indoor installation, exposure to the drying effects of a building’s heating
and ventilation system will also degrade the filler material.
The sandblasting method is more complex and much less durable. To achieve a
contrasting mark, the material of brick blasted out of the surface leaving a deep groove.
The etched out area of the brick is then filled with an epoxy or paint to create a contrast on the brick surface. Over time, these added materials weather and break down, leaving
an unclear, deteriorated, and in some cases an unreadable mark.
Newly Sandblasted Brick
Even a newly sandblasted brick has flaws (missing ink in the top leg of the “F”)
That once beautiful sandblasted brick will lose its epoxy or paint filler making the design
and message unclear and difficult to read without the contrasting material. Dirt will get embedded in the now exposed crevices. Money will need to be spent for time and labor
to clean out the dirty brick crevices. The exposed lettering and design can also become a hazard for heels from shoes and for those using assistive walking devices like canes and
walkers.

Laser Engraving
Our laser engraved bricks are more durable and are safer than sandblasted bricks. We permanently engrave bricks with our unique patented laser technologies, named
Vitralase and Vitrix. What happens in the engraving process is called laser vitrification, or just vitrification for short. The laser directs an intensely hot beam onto the brick’s
surface and changes the composition of the clay into a dark, glass-like mark that stands
out on the engraved brick or etched tile. For our customers, this means endless possibilities because we can offer a wider variety of creative ideas by adding clipart,
artwork, custom graphics, logos, signatures, depictions and fonts to your custom engraved brick or tile designs.

Laser Engraving Process
Laser engraving is a natural and permanent process. The laser beam interacts with the brick, changing the composition into ceramic by intense heat. This process is also
referred to as laser vitrification. The engraved laser mark on the brick is smooth, hard, and adhered permanently to the surrounding brick material. No paint, ink or epoxy
fillers are added to achieve contrast. The brick laser marking process has been tested for durability for harsh weather conditions. Click here (add a link) to see the brick
durability standards for additional details.
Choosing laser engraving will guarantee a high-quality and far superior product than any of the engraving or etching processes in the market. Contact us today at 1-855-
BRICKS4U to speak to a member of our team and to get started on your project.
Laser Marking is Maintenance Free The laser vitrification image is not affected by ultra-violet light, and is completely
resistant to fading. Unlike other brick engraving processes, such as sandblasting, this low maintenance product requires minimal care. Simply wash away dirt and debris to
expose a crisp, undamaged mark. The mark will never lose its clarity or quality.
A Brick is "GREEN" Laser Engraving is a natural and environmentally responsible option when revitalizing
your community. No additives. All natural. Long lasting.

Full Size Replica Bricks
At Fundraising Brick we offer you all the tools to make your fundraiser the most successful campaign it can be.
For the same cost as bricks for installation, our Replica Bricks come with rubber feet on the bottom so that the donor can safely display them on a shelf, desk, table, or floor.
Not only will your supporters/donors be able to own a little piece of the project, it is a great way to increase sales for your fundraiser.
We suggest that Replica Bricks be priced at approximately half the price of your installation bricks. For example, if you are selling a 4X8 paver for $100.00, then the
replica should be offered to the donor for $50.00. If you are selling the 8X8 paver for $250.00, then the replica should be offered to the donor for $125.00.
Replica Bricks and Tiles cost you the same as regular donor bricks/tiles and count towards volume discounts. Shipping is included in the price if the replicas are shipped to
the fundraiser with the rest of your order and distributed by your organization.
Replica bricks and tiles shipped directly to the donor will be charged $10.00 extra for
shipping and handling and will be packed in an attractive single brick/tile shipping box.

Brick Durability Standards
Our laser vitrification (laser engraving) process was subjected to a simulated fifty-year weather resistance test. Independent Testing Laboratories, an independent company,
conducted the test. Samples of our laser engraved bricks were placed in three weather climates: Freeze-thaw cycling (hot and cold), ultra violet rays (sun), and salt spray
environment (snow, ice, rain). Even under the most extreme weather conditions, the laser engraved bricks will stand the test of time, ensuring that you will never need to replace your
brick. Independent Testing Laboratories - St. Louis, Missouri
Test Process Report #95-02-00405
A sample of each 3 styles of brick was selectively subjected to (1) freeze-thaw cycling, (2) continuous exposure to carbon arc light in an Atlas Fade-o-meter, and (3) continuous
exposure to a salt spray environment. The results of each exposure is described below:
FREEZE-THAW CYCLING
A sample of each style or shade was subjected to freeze-thaw cycling which
consisted of first completely soaking the brick in water and then placed into a
cold box maintained at -20F. Subsequent to a six hour exposure in the cold
box, they were then transferred directly into an oven, maintained at 160F, for
a 15 hour period. This cycle was repeated daily with the exception that the
heat cycle was continued over the weekend. The freeze-thaw cycle was
repeated 51 times in the course of the exposure. It was noted that no visual
change in the appearance of the engraving was detected in the bricks when
compared to the control samples.
CARBON ARC EXPOSURE
A specimen of each style brick with laser engraving was subjected to direct
ultra violet light exposure generated by a carbon arc in an Atlas Fade-o-
meter. This stimulated exposure to direct sunlight similar to that experienced
at high noon at the equator. The bricks were oriented in the chamber with the
engraved surface facing the arc at a distance of 12 inches. The bricks were
continually subjected to the carbon arc light for a 37 day period. No visual
change in the appearance of the laser engraving was noted in any of the
bricks following this exposure.
SALT SPRAY EXPOSURE
One specimen of each style of engraved brick was subjected to a salt spray
cabinet exposure for a period of nine weeks (63 days). Upon removal from
the cabinet, the bricks were rinsed in water and examined. Visual inspection
at the conclusion of the exposure period revealed no change in the
appearance of the surface etchings as compared to that of the control
samples.
EVALUATION OF RESULTS Based on the text results obtained in the course of this examination, it is our opinion that
the engravings produced in the surfaces of the three styles of bricks submitted, were all comparable and were all resistant to the environmental extremes created during the test
exposure. The laser engravings appeared quite durable and resistant to weathering under the conditions of testing.

General Brick Installation Instructions These are general guidelines only. Check your paver manufacturer's
recommendations before laying pavers. Fundraising Brick is not liable for
paver installation; these are only general recommendations.
TIPS:
Clay soil can be particularly unstable over time. You can add stability to your project by covering the bottom and sides of the excavation with a geotextile fabric
stabilizing layer before you add your base.
Also instead of using a concrete toe, you can place wet Portland cement and base mixed together under the border pavers. For instance: you are using a 6"x9"
paver as a soldier border for a driveway. You excavate out the compacted base the entire length under the border, mix in Portland and water. Then set it back in
the area. Place the soldier paver back into the wet concrete mix and hammer back
to level. You have basically just created a 9" wide concrete beam that is not visible to the viewer. If it does crack, it is rare that a 9" wide concrete beam buried below
grade would move.
If you have sandy soil, you may be able to mix 1 94-pound bag of Portland cement into each 30 square feet of your soil as a base. Do this only if you're installing a
walkway or patio that will receive only foot traffic.
In southern climates not subject to freeze thaw, a concrete toe can be used in
place of edge restraints, and for some projects, such as driveways, a toe is not preferred. Install the toe after you have already installed the pavers.
Spray your base gravel lightly with water to moisten it. This will make it easier to compact the base correctly.
SOIL TYPES:
Sandy Soil
Most brick patios are installed with layers of both sand and rock for the longest
lasting installation, but in some cases it isn’t necessarily a requirement. If you are living in an area that already has sandy soil, you can generally use a layer of
crushed rock underneath the brick. The sandy soil already provides a base of support, and as long as it is packed firm under the installation, there are no
concerns. Clay Soil
While rock isn’t necessarily affected by water, sand is. If you live in an area that has a clay soil base you will need to use more rock than sand. This is because clay
does not drain well and that backwater can soak into the sand and cause it to
harden and eventually soak up clay elements. Once this happens you will have pieces that can occasionally stick up due to hard sand underneath, so sand should
be kept to a minimum in these cases.
105 Industrial Drive Hermann, MO 65041 PH 855-BRICKS4U (855-274-2574) PH 573-486-5515 FAX 636-600-5352 [email protected] [email protected] www.fundraisingbrick.com
Hard Soil
As long as the soil is dry and hard-packed, you can use a base of rough sand. It will need to be thick enough to support the pavers, but because the ground is dry
and excess water isn’t an issue you don’t need the rock for drainage, and the sand can sufficiently support the patio above. You can also add a layer of rock under the
sand if you want extra protection. Climate
The climate can affect the type of sand you use on top of your rocks. Because
sand can soak up water, it is susceptible to freezing in the winter, as well as the freeze/thaw cycle in the late fall and early spring months. When water hardens it
expands, which forces patio pavers up off the patio. Your best option in these cases is to use the roughest sand you can find or the finest type of rock gravel to
allow for adequate drainage.
BRICK INSTALLATION WITH SAND:
Tools and Equipment:
Shovel for excavating the area to a depth of 4-12". For larger jobs, a skid loader
or backhoe can be used.
Tamping machine to compact base and pavers.
Chisel and hammer to split pavers or, for larger jobs, a brick saw can be used.
Wheelbarrow or skid loader to haul sand, gravel, and pavers.
Rubber mallet for positioning pavers.
Level
Stakes and strings for marking perimeter of area to be paved and to provide a
guide for leveling pavers.
Screen board to level base and sand before setting pavers.
Broom to sweep sand into spaces between pavers.

Site Considerations:
The area chosen for paving should be level with a ½ - 1% slope to provide for drainage.
Avoid areas where tree roots might cause damage to the paved area. Recently disturbed
soils or soils high in organic matter should be removed and replaced with compacted
base material.
Most brick pavers are 2 1/4" thick. Add this measurement to your base depth to
calculate how deep you should excavate. For example, for a driveway you should
excavate a total of 8 1/4" from where you expect the surface of the pavers to be when
the job is complete (assuming that you are using a 6" base depth and using 2 1/4" thick
brick pavers).
1/16” minimum and 3/16” maximum joints

Compact Rock Base

Compact Sub Grade
Step-By-Step Process:
1. Excavate the area to be paved using a shovel or skid loader. The depth needed will
depend on the intended use for the paved area. If the area will be used for foot traffic
only, you will need a 4" base of crushed rock. For heavy traffic or a lawn tractor, 6" is
necessary. For driveways, 12" of crushed rock will be necessary. Construction fabric can
be used to stabilize the existing soil before the base material is added. Add to that ½-1"
for sand and the depth of the pavers themselves to determine the depth to be
excavated.
2. Fill the excavated area with crushed rock or class 5 fill. Begin by spreading an even
layer of rock 3-4" deep. Use the tamping machine to compact the rock. Add another 3-
4" layer and compact again. Continue this layering process until the desired amount of
base is in place and fully compacted. Be sure each layer is level before adding the next
layer.
3. Install the desired edging around the perimeter of the area to be paved.
105 Industrial Drive Hermann, MO 65041 PH 855-BRICKS4U (855-274-2574) PH 573-486-5515 FAX 636-600-5352 [email protected] [email protected] www.fundraisingbrick.com
Be sure measurements are accurate so pavers will fit properly. When determining the
finished size of the paved area, choose a size that will require as little cutting or splitting
of pavers as possible.
4. Add a ½-1" layer of coarse sand over the crushed rock base. The sand covers the
small rocks found in the base material making leveling easier. Stabilize it by tamping or
moistening with water to avoid future settling. Using a screed board, smooth the surface
of the sand so that the entire area is level with the edging. The sand surface should be
at a height so that when pavers are placed on top, they will initially sit approximately ¼"
above the finished elevation.
5. Set the pavers on the sand in the desired pattern. For larger areas, position string to
crisscross the area to assist in aligning bricks correctly. Pavers should be set tightly
against one another; bricks can be set with 1/16” minimum and 3/16” maximum joints
between them. If the final row of pavers must be cut to fit, use a brick saw to cut to the
desired size or split them using a hammer and chisel.
Note: When square-edged pavers or pavers without lugs are laid with sand joints, care should
be taken to ensure that they do not make direct contact with or lip under adjacent pavers. A minimum 1/16 in. (1.6 mm) wide sand-filled joint should separate each clay
paver to minimize potential chipping. However, the maximum joint width should be no more than 3/16 in. (4.8 mm) to minimize the potential for horizontal movement under
vehicular traffic. If pavers with spacers and/or a rounded or chamfered edge are
installed, there is less potential for direct paver contact. When lugs are used, the potential for creep is reduced.
6. When all bricks or pavers have been set, spread sand over the entire area and using
a broom, sweep sand around until all the crevices between the pavers or bricks are
filled.
7. Run the tamping machine over the surface of the pavers until the crevices are full of
sand.
105 Industrial Drive Hermann, MO 65041 PH 855-BRICKS4U (855-274-2574) PH 573-486-5515 FAX 636-600-5352 [email protected] [email protected] www.fundraisingbrick.com
8. Spread more sand over the surface and sweep it into crevices between pavers. This
step may need to be repeated over the next couple of weeks.
BRICK INSTALLATION MORTAR:
1. Make wood spacers from ½-inch by ½-inch boards, cut to 3-foot lengths with a
circular saw or a hand saw. No special type of wood is necessary for the spacers; you'll
use them to obtain a rough level on your mortar.
2. Lay out your brick pattern as you want it to look beside your walkway. Unless you're a professional mason, this is the best way to get the exact pattern you want. You don't
have to lay out the entire walkway at once, but lay out enough to complete at least a 3-foot length of walk. You can lay out more as you go.
105 Industrial Drive Hermann, MO 65041 PH 855-BRICKS4U (855-274-2574) PH 573-486-5515 FAX 636-600-5352 [email protected] [email protected] www.fundraisingbrick.com
3. Cut a section of plywood to the dimension of the width of your walk. For a standard
3-foot residential walkway, you would cut a square of plywood that is 3 feet long and 3 feet wide.
Set the Bricks
4. Place one spacer on each side of your sidewalk at the start of your walk. The spacers
serve as a rough level, helping you keep the mortar bed even.
5. Mix mortar as directed on the bag and spread it out on the concrete between the
wood spacers, creating a 3-foot "bed" of mortar about ½ inch high over the level of your walkway, using the spacers on each side as rough guides.
6. Transfer the bricks, maintaining the same pattern, from beside the walkway to the
mortar bed. Do about 3 feet at one time, working from side to side on the walkway.
7. Set each brick as you place it by pushing it back and forth lightly. The bricks will sink
about ¼ inch into the mortar bed, displacing some of the mortar between each brick.
8. Complete a 3-foot area and then place the plywood square lightly on top of the
bricks. Tap lightly over the entire surface of the plywood with a rubber mallet to level the bricks beneath. Remove the plywood and use a trowel to wipe away excess mortar
that has seeped out on the edges of the walkway. Repeat with each 3-foot section of walkway.
Finish the Project
9. Spread fresh mortar over the bricks after the entire brick walkway is complete and the mortar bed is hard. Use the trowel to push the mortar evenly into the spaces
between the bricks, wiping excess mortar off the top of the bricks as you go.
10. Brush away dried mortar from the brick surface with a stiff-bristle brush, when the
mortar is completely dry.
11. Spray off the surface of the bricks and your walkway is ready for foot traffic.
How to Maintain your Brick Installation
Cleaning Tips
1. Use a garden hose with a spray nozzle attachment to wash laser engraved paving stones or tiles. Routine cleaning will keep the paving stones and tiles looking nice
and will prevent dirt and grime from becoming embedded in the bricks and tiles.
Fundraising Brick recommends that you clean your installation site two times per year at a minimum. This will help to prevent dirt, mold, and grime build up and
will keep your installation site looking new.
105 Industrial Drive Hermann, MO 65041 PH 855-BRICKS4U (855-274-2574) PH 573-486-5515 FAX 636-600-5352 [email protected] [email protected] www.fundraisingbrick.com
2. Remove stubborn dirt or stains with a pressure washer. A pressure washer may
be enough to clean the engraved brick pavers and tiles, allowing you to avoid harsh detergents or chemicals. Use hot water and a fan spray nozzle to ensure
that you do not damage the surface of the paver or tile. DO NOT use the small direct nozzle, as it may damage the engraved surface, allowing more dirt and
grime to become embedded into the laser engraved paver or tile. After you are finished washing the pavers, sweep the pavers or tiles with a broom.
3. If you are unable to remove dirt, grime, stains, excess mortar on the engraved
brick or tile with the two methods listed above, you may use a general purpose chemical. Always perform a small test area before cleaning large areas.
1. Recommended chemical for brick and tile cleaning: Sure Klean® 600 is a
general purpose, concentrated acidic cleaner for brick, tile and concrete surfaces. Dissolves mortar smears and construction dirt quickly, leaving the
masonry clean and uniform with no acid burning or streaking.
2. Test an inconspicuous spot before using any cleaning products, as some types of pavers may be damaged by certain chemicals. To test the product,
apply a small amount to a laser engraved paver or tile, then leave it on for a few minutes and the thoroughly rinse with water. If there is no damage or
fading to the laser engraving or the actual brick or tile, you should safely be able to use the chemical to assist in cleaning the bricks or tiles.
3. Apply the cleaner to your pavers or tile using a brush or broom. Avoid using a brush with any metal bristles, use nylon bristled brush for scrubbing.
Allow the cleaner to set for 10 minutes or per the manufactures recommendations.
4. Wash the laser engraved paving stones or tiles using a stiff scrub brush or broom. Scrub a small area at a time, until all the pavers or tiles have been
cleaned. 5. Rinse the pavers thoroughly with a garden hose. Allow them to dry.
Care during winter months:
Snow should be removed by mechanical means not with any type of de-icing chemicals. Power brushing is particularly good because there is little or no metal to paver contact.
If you use a snow blower make sure that the steel guide pads at the mouth of the snow
blower are coated with rubber to reduce the possibility of damage when the guides hit
and raised or pavers or tiles.
Shovels are fine to use for snow and ice removal. DO NOT use Ice scrapers they do damage laser engraved clay pavers and tiles.
Ice is best removed from laser engraved pavers and tiles by spreading sand on the
surface of the pavement. Salts such as magnesium chloride, can be mixed with sand to speed melting. Calcium chloride causes deterioration over time.

General Tile Installation Instructions
These are general guidelines only. Check with your tile installer for
recommendations before laying tiles. Fundraising Brick is not liable for tile installation; these are only general recommendations.
*SPECIAL NOTE*
GLASS TILE INSTALLATION USE A WHITE COLOR ONLY AND AN ACID FREE ADHESIVE TO
INSTALL GLASS TILES. FOR ADDITIONAL DETAILS CONTACT A PROFESSIONAL GLASS TILE INSTALLATION COMPANY.
Note: Directly bonding glass tiles to wood substrates is not recommended. All surfaces to receive tile shall be left clean and free of dust, oil, grease, paint, tar, wax, curing
agent, primer, sealer, adhesive residue, form release agent or any other deleterious substance and debris which may prevent or reduce adhesion.
Glass tile expands and contracts more than ceramic and porcelain tile. This movement needs to be accommodated in the installation, particularly where temperature changes
may occur. Be sure to use caulked joints on all inside corners where walls intersect. This recommendation is standard installation procedure though frequently ignored with
ceramic tile. It is critical with glass tile installation. We recommend a minimum grout joint of 1/8 inch between tiles.
SETTING MATERIALS
We recommend any high grade flexible mortar system (latex modified) as a setting material for glass tiles. When selecting the grout color, consider that the glass tiles are
made of transparent glass and the color of grouting materials will be visible from the edges of each tile, white is the recommended color. This may affect the final
appearance of the tile. To insure the correct grout color has been selected create a sample swatch and grout, allow to dry and evaluate before proceeding. Use only non-
sanded grout with polymer or latex, and compliant with ANSI 118.6. If the installation requires larger grout joints where sanded grout is necessary, glass tiles should be face
taped to protect the surface from scratching.
Individual Glass Tiles
1. Mix setting materials according to manufacturers’ instructions.
2. Use a 3/16” square-notched trowel to apply setting materials. Tiles up to 6”
x 6” use a 1/4” x 1/4” square-notched trowel.
3. Additionally, each piece should be “back-buttered” with a thin, continuous layer of the setting material.
105 Industrial Drive Hermann, MO 65041 PH 855-BRICKS4U (855-274-2574) PH 573-486-5515 FAX 636-600-5352 [email protected] [email protected] www.fundraisingbrick.com
4. Press tile into the setting materials. Leaving a minimum of 1/8 inch space
between each tile for grout.
5. After tile application, use a rubber float or equivalent tool, gently press the tile into the adhesive and flatten to insure complete contact. Do not push the
tiles too deeply into the setting materials, as this will cause the setting materials to ooze up between the spaces in the tile.
6. Adjust tile for correct alignment and even spacing between. Do not allow setting material to dry or skin over before completing this process.
GENERAL INSTALLATION FOR ALL TILES
Allow setting materials sufficient time to set (see manufacturers’ instructions).
Clean all excess setting materials with a damp sponge or damp terry cloth towel.
Always use clean cloths, preferably white, as some fabric dyes can stain the grout
joint. Clean all excess setting materials that may have remained on the tile surface. Wipe away any haze that may have remained behind.
After 24 hours, mix grout, following manufacturers’ instructions.
Grout openings between tiles.
Clean all excess grout immediately with a damp sponge.
Polish off any remaining haze with a dry cloth or towel.
After grouting, protect area from light foot traffic and light water exposure for at
least 72 hours. Protect area from heavy traffic and regular use for at least 7 days.
TILE CARE AND MAINTENANCE:
Clean the surface of glass tile with mild soap and warm water. Wipe surface completely
dry with a clean, lint free soft cloth. For excessively dirty glass tile, use a non-abrasive cleaning compound recommended for glass or tile (such as Windex, ammonia and water,
vinegar and water). Rinse according to the manufacturer’s instruction.

our Remembrance Clock and Fundraiser and raised over $25,000 to purchase the clock, the bricks and pay for all expenses.
The clock was purchased from Verdin Clock Company and the bricks were purchased through

a valuable centerpiece for Columbia Country Club.
Our hope is that selling Fundraiser Brick
engraved bricks will also generate funds to sustain the clocks future expenses and
provide funds to assist with club projects. The
engraved brick phase will keep our project dynamic well into the future as members

Fenton Heroes Memorial River Chase Park Fenton, Missouri Ongoing Fundraiser that has earned thousands of dollars
In the spring of 2004, the Mayor of Fenton, Missouri, Dennis J. Hancock and the members of the
Park Board (Board Chair--Glen Scholle, members Jeff Bodi, Charles Jahneke, Mike Lucas, Steve
Covault, Gregg Cleveland, Diana Biras and Nannette Clark), determined that their city should
build a memorial to the victims of the terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center on September
11, 2001. It was also determined that the memorial would honor police, firefighters, EMS
personnel and all veterans.
The Heroes Memorial includes:
Hundreds of engraved brick pavers honoring the heroes involved in the lives of our
Community.
A granite globe that "floats" on a thin curtain of water and spins easily at the touch of a
child's hand.
A black granite wall honoring the victims of the September 11th attacks. Engraved in
the granite are the locations of the attacks. In front of the wall is a sculpture
symbolizing the "Twin Towers".
Two black granite pilasters listing the names of area police, firefighters and military
personnel killed in the line of duty.
A beautifully landscaped stone planter wall containing plaques honoring veterans,
police, firefighters and the victims of 9/11.
Flagpoles sponsored by local organizations Granite benches and pillars.

We use the bricks in a walkway from Monmouth Reform Temple's patio to a Meditation Garden where
people can visit at their leisure and where we hold some outdoor summer Sabbath services.
If you want/need a close-up of one of the engraved bricks let me know and I will take one.
Monmouth Reform Temple, Tinton Falls, NJ, undertook installation of this 80 ft. by 4-5 ft. Brick
Walkway fund raising project in 2001. As we received orders for engraved bricks they were ordered
from Laser Light Technologies in 2001. Within this first year we had ordered 184 engraved bricks and
continue to add more in small quantities as requests are received. We have been very pleased with the
cost and quality of the bricks, the ability to order in small quantities and the timely deliveries
provided.

Four Phase Installation Project
The path photo is by our flag pole. This is our 3rd year where we have ran the campaign for a
needed child in our school or community. We fundraise by selling the brick pavers and then
we use the paver to complete our landscape for the school. The family gets the funds left over
after we pay for the bricks. The school gets the nice landscape with the honor and memory
pavers.
We have another path to lay and then we will fill in and make it a semi-circle with mulch in
between the paths. The district has donated the labor to set the pavers nicely in place. As you
can see it has withstood weathering nicely

Director of Engineering
Dear Fundraisers,
Fundraising Brick LLC is proud of the quality and durability of our patented brick laser
engraving process called laser vitrification.
Laser vitrification is used to scribe lettering or logos on bricks of suitable composition.
In this process, the heat of a laser beam melts the brick in the custom-programmed
pattern, causing it to re-solidify as glass in a black, glossy finish that does not
deteriorate, even under the most extreme weather conditions.
Our laser vitrification process was subjected to a simulated fifty-year weather resistance
test by Industrial Testing Laboratories, an independent testing company. Samples of
our laser engraved bricks were placed in three climate simulations: (1) hot and cold
simulation of freeze-thaw cycling, (2) ultraviolet simulation of sun aging, and (3)
simulation of coastal environments by salt spray exposure. Even under the most
extreme weather conditions, the laser engraved bricks will stand the test of time,
insuring that you will not have to replace your bricks because of faded marking.
A copy of the test results from Industrial Testing Laboratories is available. Please call
Fundraising Brick LLC at 855-BRICKS4U for further details.
Sincerely,
David Bryan, Ph.D.
