As you can see our attendance

at mass continues to grow each

week. We now have approxi-

mately 5,300 people at mass

each week. Those who come

to mass a few minutes late

know that most times it is

now impossible to find an

empty seat to sit! For the

Sundays of Lent until the

Second Sunday of Easter we

will offer mass at 10 am in

the chapel in Spanish. Those

who attend a Spanish mass

on Sundays are asked to take

note of this new mass at 10

am in the chapel

Dear Friends,

What to do for Lent? Sacrifice something special? Do the extra for

someone else? Pray more? Read and study the Bible? Go to mass every Sunday and once

or twice during the week? There are many things we can do this Lent.

I encourage you…let’s not procrastinate (like the promises we make for the New Year) let’s

do something and work hard at achieving whatever we resolve. As we enter Lent I urge you

to think about what you will do –now to make THIS Lent a time of grace in your life! Here

are some of the things we offer here at the parish:

¿Qué hacer para la Cuaresma? Sacrificar algo especial? ¿Hacer algo por los demas?

Orar mas? Lee y estudiar la Biblia?¿Ir a misa todos los domingos y una o dos veces durante la

semana? Hay muchas cosas que podemos hacer esta Cuaresma. Te animo ... no posterguemos

(como las promesas que hacemos para el Año Nuevo) hagamos algo y trabajemos duro para

lograr lo que sea que resolvamos. Mientras nos preparamos para la Cuaresma , les pido que

piensen en lo que harán, ahora, para hacer de esta Cuaresma un tiempo de gracia en su vida.

Dear Friends, HAPPY ST PATRICKS DAY!! Our chapel, church, convent, rectory and schools were built by Irish immigrants 100 years ago. They came to this country with very little money in their pockets but lots of hopes and dreams for a better life. To our parish of St Bartholomew they sacrificed so much to build the beautiful churches and schools that we have on our property. As you look at our stained glass windows in the church and chapel you will see that most of them were donated by the Irish in memory of a loved one or in gratitude for God’s blessings. Today, as we celebrate St Patrick’s Day, the

patron saint of Ireland, we are grateful for the most important treasure the Irish brought to our parish over the past 100 years -the gift of their faith! We still have parishioners who are Irish but many have moved and many more have gone to the kingdom of heaven. Please join me today is saying a prayer in thanksgiving to all of our past and current parishioners of Irish heritage for all they have done for this great parish of St Bartholomew, Elmhurst NY. Queridos amigos, ¡¡FELIZ DIA DE SAN PATRICIO!! Nuestra capilla, iglesia, convento, rectoría y escuelas fueron construidas por inmigrantes irlandeses hace 100 años. Llegaron a este país con muy poco dinero en sus bolsillos pero muchas esperanzas y sueños para una vida mejor. A nuestra parroquia de San Bartolomé se sacrificaron tanto para construir las hermosas iglesias y escuelas que tenemos en nuestra propiedad. Al mirar nuestras vidrieras en la iglesia y capilla, verá que la mayoría de ellos fueron donados por los irlandeses en memoria de un ser querido o en agradecimiento por las bendiciones de Dios. SAINT JOSEPH MASS This Tuesday, March 19 is the feast of

St Joseph and a solemnity. Our masses at 9 am in English and 7:30 p.m. in Spanish will have music in

order to make the celebration special. All are invited to come and honor St Joseph, husband

of Mary, foster father of Jesus.

MISA DE SAN JOSE Este martes 19 de marzo es la fiesta de San José y

una solemnidad. Nuestras misas a las 9 am en inglés ya las 7:30 p.m. en español tendran música para que la celebración sea especial. Todos están invitados a

In order to give letters of recommendation,

letters attesting to character, sponsor

certificates, and other documents that may

have legal or religious purposes, it is

required that persons requesting those

documents be registered and be active

members of Saint Bartholomew Parish

at least three months prior to your

request. We can not provide any

of these documents to people not

registered in the parish.

SACRAMENT OF RECONCILIATION

There are two times every Saturday for

confessions in the main church: 4 pm and

6:30 pm. Also Thursday at 6:30pm in the

Chapel. We now have two priests assigned

during these times to make it convenient

and less time to wait. Please do your

part…. come as close as possible to these

confession times. Take advantage of this

wonderful opportunity of God’s

mercy and love.

Good news for our Chinese Catholic commu-nity in Elmhurst. St Bartholomew Parish will be offering mass in Chinese on the First and Third Sundays of the month at 1:30 p.m. in the chapel (Ithaca St). Also, the Chinese commu-nity will gather every Tuesday at 6:30 pm in the chapel – Ithaca St. Please join us.

INDONESIAN MASS On the 4th Sunday of every month mass is celebrated in Indone-sian at 3 p.m. in the chapel Following the mass there’s always a reception in Heafey Hall. The next mass will be celebrated today March 24 at 3 pm. All are welcome to attend.

TAGALOG MASS On the 3rd Sunday of every month mass is celebrated in Tagalog for the Filipino community at 5 p.m. in the chapel (Ithaca Street). The next mass will be celebrated March 17.

BENGALI/BURMESE MASS These two communities gather on the first Sunday of the month for a bilingual mass at 4:30 pm in the chapel. following the mass there is a gathering with light refreshments in Heafey Hall. The next mass will be celebrated Sunday, April 7.

ADULT AND CHILDREN SACRAMENTS OF INITITATION: More than 50 people are preparing to receive their sacraments of initiation (Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation) at this year’s Easter Vigil. This is our biggest group ever. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers as they complete the final period of preparation. Last week they met with Bishop DiMarzio and Bishop Cisneros for a special welcoming ceremony. Special thanks to Deacon Daniel and our catechists for their hard work! SACRAMENTOS DE INICIACIÓN PARA ADULTOS Y NIÑOS: Más de 50 personas se están preparando para recibir sus sacramentos de iniciación (Bautismo, Eucaristía y Confirmación) en la Vigilia Pascual de este año. Este es nuestro grupo más grande. Por favor, manténgalos en sus pensamientos y oraciones mientras completan el período final de preparación. FIRST RECONCILIATION This past Saturday, march 16, 228 children received the Sacrament of Reconciliation (Confession) for the very first time. They are now beginning their final preparation for the Sacrament of the Eucharist (Holy Communion) which will take place this May. Please keep these young people, their parents and godparents in your prayers during this special time. PRIMERA RECONCILIACIÓN El sábado pasado, 16 de marzo, 228 niños recibieron el Sacramento de Reconciliación (Confesión) por primera vez. NEW MINISTERS INFORMATION MEETING Would you like to serve your parish as a lector? Ministers of Holy Communion? Usher? We need your assistance! As our parish continues to grow there’s a great need for more and more ministers. Please attend a special information night where all your questions will be answered! We will have a meeting THIS Sunday, March 24 in English at 12:30 p.m. in the chapel (Ithaca St) and Sunday, March 24 in Spanish at 2 pm in the church (Whitney Ave).

We will be offering a 5 Sunday formation course beginning April 28. Classes are offered in English and Spanish. We invite you to attend a meeting for information and registration on Saturday, APRIL 6 AT 11AM IN Heafey Hall (located under the chapel on Ithaca St.) The sacrament will be conferred on Pentecost Sunday– June 9th.
