CLOUD COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE DEVELOPMENTAL EDUCATION PROGRAM The Geary County Campus of Cloud County Community College offers college-readiness classes in each semester to those wishing to enhance their skills before beginning a college curriculum. Transitional EnglishThis class will help students prepare for their college composition courses. The content includes instruction in the writing process from free writing and brainstorming to revision and editing with the development of sentence structure, correctness, and variety. This is a 3 credit hour class. Composition WorkshopThis class is designed to be taken with English Composition I for students who need individualized instruction in the clear and correct usage of English grammar, extended practice with writing form and purpose and the successful writing habits.

Elementary AlgebraThis class is designed for students with little or no high school alge-bra. Topics covered include number systems, solution and applica-tion of linear equations, factoring and radicals. Prerequisite: Pre-algebra with a C or better or appropriate test scores. This is a 3

credit hour class. Intermediate AlgebraThis course is designed for students who have only one year of high school algebra or who are not otherwise ready for College Algebra. Among the topics covered will be number systems, linear equations and inequalities, lines, systems of linear equations and inequalities, polynomials, exponents, rational expressions, and quadratic equa-tions. Prerequisite: Elementary Algebra with a C or better or appro-priate test scores. This is a 3 credit class.

BARTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE- COLLEGE PROGRAM College Program classes consist of both traditional and hybrid classes and are open to civilian and military students. Saturday. Traditional classes meet twice a week for three hours each class period with assignments completed online or in the classroom. Hybrid classes meet for three hours each week in class and another three hours completed online, in addition to other course assignments. Weekend classes are hybrid and meet Saturday from 0900 to 1200 hours or 1300 to 1600 hours each weekend for eight weeks. For the evening and weekend classes, books may be provided. Students are encouraged to contact the Fort Riley Barton office at 785-784-6606 for details. Cost for college courses is $104 per credit hour, TA eligible. There is a $15 technol-ogy fee for hybrid courses.

BARTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE – LSEC LEADER SKILLS ENHANCEMENT COURSELSEC is designed to assist in the training of Noncommissioned Officers and soldiers demonstrating leadership potential in the advanced skills needed to perform at higher-level leadership and staff positions. It is an on-duty program and attendance in all classes is mandatory. Students not attending all classes risk the possibility of failing the course for non-attendance. LSEC program is open to the Total Army Family: Active duty military, reserve and National Guard, retirees, military family members, and DOD civil-ians and their family members. LSEC class schedules have seven cycles per year and each cycle is six weeks in length. Traditional type classes meet Monday through Friday for 1 ½ hours each class. Classes with assignments are completed online or in the classroom. Tuition and books are provided at no cost to the student. Students are able to complete an Associate degree and transfer credits to major universities.

BARTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE’S HAZARDOUS MATERIALS & EMERGENCY SERVICES TRAINING INSTITUTE (HMESTI) HMESTI provides Hazardous Materials, Occupational Safety and Health, Emergency Management/Homeland Security, Emergency Medical Services and Military On-Site Training. These programs can be tailored for individual students, business, industry, and govern-mental agencies. The HMESTI is also home to a Great Plains OSHA Education Center (GPOEC). In addition to offering OSHA numbered courses, GPOEC can provide high-quality professional safety and occupational health training tailored to your organization’s needs. BARTON COMMUNITY COLLEGE’S HAZARDOUS WASTE OPERATIONS & EMERGENCY RESPONSE (HAZWOPER)This course provides students with an overview of the requirements of 29 CFR 1910.120 for occupational health and safety workers who respond to hazardous waste and chemical spills. Topics include toxicology, chemical awareness, monitoring, personal protective equipment, safety, confined space entry, incident command, site control, medical surveillance, decontamination, safe work practices and emergency procedures. In addition to the full, forty hour course, an eight hour refresher course is also available. CLOUD COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE COMMERCIAL DRIVERS LICENSE (CDL)This program is offered in two phases. Phase 1 is a two week course that will provide the training necessary to successfully complete the CDL general knowledge Class A written tests with the State of Kansas to obtain your CDL Learners Permit. Phase 2 incorporates what you learned in Phase 1 with hands on training, including behind-the-wheel driving of a tractor trailer/combination vehicle with air brakes. Upon its completion, you will be prepared for the three-part Class A Driving Skills Exam. CLOUD COUNTY COMMUNITY COLLEGE MSF BASIC RIDER COURSEThose who choose to take a rider education course greatly reduce the likelihood and severity of being involved in a motorcycle acci-dent. What you do before you start a trip goes a long way toward

determining whether or not you’ll get where you want to go safely – wearing the right gear, becoming familiar with the motorcycle, checking the motorcycle equipment, knowing the traffic laws, and being a responsible rider. This course covers all of the preparation work and provides on-the-bike instructional driving. The training is Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) approved. Upon completion, participants will receive their MSF Safety Certificate as well as their Kansas DE-99. Classes are held in Junction City and we provide the motorcycles! SOUTHWESTERN COLLEGE’S EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT & BUSINESS CONTINUITYThis certificate is designed to address a multitude of issues and challenges facing the increasingly complex nature of today’s private and public organizations. Students will examine best practices and lessons learned and analyze a wide range of topics and issues within the emergency management and business continuity disci-pline. Learners will analyze national standards in corroboration with assessing the skills needed for the formulation of emergency business continuity plans, in order to maintain organizational and business functions. K-STATE GLOBAL CAMPUSK-State Global Campus grants access to Certificate, Bachelor, Master, and PhD opportunities. If you’re interested in taking classes online but haven’t decided on a program of study or missed the application deadline, you can still enroll as a nondegree-seeking student. This option will allow you to begin taking classes right away without being formally admitted. DirectLink is a new initiative between Kansas community colleges and Kansas State University to provide community college students with additional support as they prepare to transition to the university. Students who participate in the initia-tive will receive recognition for achievements made while complet-ing the associate degree and will be provided with curriculum sequence information that will guide them through the most effi-cient and effective timeline to obtaining a bachelor’s degree. PROCTORING DISTANCE EDUCATION EXAMS – DOROTHY BRAMLAGE PUBLIC LIBRARYMany distance education programs require that students make

arrangements with a local proctor that will supervise them as they take their exams. This proctor is necessary to ensure the academic integrity and security of those tests. The reference staff at the Dorothy Bramlage Public Library provides a proctoring service to students residing in the Junction City/Geary County/Fort Riley area for both paper and online testing. The BLS Course trains participants to promptly recognize several life-threatening emergencies, give high-quality chest compressions, deliver appropriate ventilations and provide early use of an AED. Each course is $75.

heartsaver First Aid cpr Aed is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches stu-dents critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical servic-es arrives. Skills covered in this course include first aid; choking relief in adults, children, and infants; and what to do for sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children, and infants.

Both classes are American Heart Association curriculum.All classes are held at the Barton Community College facility in Grandview Plaza.
