REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF TRUSTEES, MAY 10, 2012
The Board of Trustees:
Approved minutes of the previous meeting. Received the monthly financial status report. Heard a report from Mrs. Kim Rogers, Business Manager, on budget development for the
fiscal year 2013.
Approved the claims docket for payment of accounts. Acknowledged the report on bus repairs/expenses and the monthly report on the use of
school buses for special events.
Approved the request for permission to dispose of one IBM Typewriter, fixed asset tag#1424, purchased 6/30/1990, that is beyond repair.
Authorized the District to advertise for fuel bids for the 2012-2013 school year. Approved requests for authorization to conduct the following fund raisers: Columbia High
School Dugout Club to host a Baseball Team Camp June 4, 5, & 7 and June 25-28, 2012; and
the 21st
Century Community Learning Enrichment Academy to sell poster size prints at
$15.00 for full-size and $10.00 for half-size.
Authorized the District to submit the 2012-2013 Consolidated Federal Programs Applicationto the Mississippi Department of Education and to grant approval of the assurances
including Schoolwide plans and budget.
Gave second approval of the job description for band director, revised job description forhead coach, and School Board Policy ICGAbstinence-Only Sex Education.
Approved the request for permission for 21st Century Community Learning Center staff totravel out-of-state to attend the National 21st Century Community Learning Center
Conference in New Orleans, LA, July 31 August 1, 2012. All expenses will be paid from the
21st
CCLC grant funds.

Gave first approval of School Board Policy IFBDAB Internet Safety Policy. Approved an increase in the cost of meals for the 2012-2013 school year due to the rising
cost of food/supplies and new regulations.

Authorized renewal of the partnership agreement between Columbia School District(Columbia Primary School) and Pearl River Valley Opportunity, Inc. Head Start/Early Head
Start for the 2012-2013 school year.
Accepted employment resignations submitted by Bill Thompson, Assistant Band Director atColumbia High School, effective June 30, 2012; Fnu Umarani, teacher at Columbia High
School, effective June 30, 2012; Tracey Ballard, special education teacher at Columbia
Elementary School, effective June 30, 2012; Ryan Davis, football coach at Columbia High
School, effective June 30, 2012; Yama Jones, teacher/coach at Columbia High School,
effective May 24, 2012; Tandi Wells, teacher at Columbia Elementary School, effective June
30, 2012; and Courtney Greer, teacher at Columbia Primary School, effective June 30, 2012.
Approved the employment of the following persons for the remainder of the 2011-2012school year: Angela Smith, Kristi Garner, Wynne Maily, Delesa Garner, Molly Miller and
Amber Lee for the after school MCT2 prep program at Columbia Primary School; Tiwana
Hammond and Alisia Walker as substitute cafeteria workers; Rosa Thompson and Robert
White as extended school year teachers at Jefferson Middle School; Emily Rayborn, Fnu
Umarani, Rhonda Gaughf, Robert Knight, Anne McCain as extended school year/summer
school teachers at Columbia High School; and Gail Vanfleet, Louise Brown, Jonell Conerly,
Annie Hammond, Kathy Houston, and Beverly Masino as personnel for the SPED Extended
School Year (ESY) Program:
Approved the recommendation to discontinue the Fast Track Program at Jefferson MiddleSchool for the 2012-2013 school year.
Approved the 2012-2013 District Salary Handbook. Changed the July 12, 2012, school board meeting to Monday, July 16, 2012, at 5:30 p.m. Was informed of the Mississippi Ethics Commission annual report deadline, the Mississippi
Healthy Students Act of 2007 survey extended deadline, and the Columbia High School
graduation ceremony will be held in the CHS gymnasium at 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 18, 2012.
